Very Unfortunate incident. Commonly, people mistakenly refer it to Heart Attack. It is NOT heart attack but Cardiac Arrest. These are two different entities, requiring different treatment approaches. A heart attack is a circulation problem that occurs when blood flow to the heart is blocked, while a cardiac arrest is an electrical problem that occurs when the heart suddenly stops beating. Heart attack A blockage in a coronary artery prevents blood from reaching the heart muscle. Symptoms include chest pain, shortness of breath, sweating, and discomfort in the upper body. The heart usually keeps beating, but if left untreated, the heart muscle can die. A heart attack can lead to cardiac arrest. Cardiac arrest The heart stops pumping blood and oxygen to the body's organs and tissues. Symptoms include loss of consciousness, cessation of breathing, and no pulse. Cardiac arrest can be caused by a heart attack or other factors. If treated quickly with CPR and an AED, a person may survive. Treatment CPR and an AED are the only ways to save a person's life in the case of a cardiac arrest. While in a case of Heart attack, person does not die immediately. He/She should be taken to nearest heart hospital ASAP, for opening of the blocked coronary artery, either thru clot dissolving medicines, or primary angioplasty. Remember time is very important. The earlier the patient is taken to hospital the better are the chances of survival. Above lady could have been saved, if someone had started CPR ( Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation), which is easy to learn.
