My daughter just walked in and said 4/8 of her teachers assigned work packets and homework over Spring ~BREAK~, including 44 assignments in Khan Academy from her math teacher. And we wonder why kids are having mental health issues. I have so many things I want to say but none
I think sometimes we forget (or never knew) the overlapping traits between Autism, ADHD, and Giftedness. Some of our students even have two of these exceptionalities and are referred to as Twice Exceptional (or 2E). Both of my sons are 2E. Please take a minute to read about it
My post about my daughter’s math assignments blew up this week and I think her math teacher is a good teacher, but here’s my point:
1: 44 assignments is excessive
2: students are entitled to spring break too
3: stop assigning busy work 4: make sure what you are assigning meets
I have to be out Friday for personal reasons and I could write a plan or not write a lesson plan, and my long time sub of 10+ years will step right in and have my kids doing amazing things. She is absolutely incredible and substitutes do not get enough credit. Especially the ones
Why must the joy be sucked out of everything we try to do for children? I am now being told I cannot have Minecraft Student Ambassador Club unless I create bylaws and a budget. For an elementary after school club that teachers are volunteering their time for. Whatever. You won't
@lasralaplante
My daughter, who is a straight A student working 1-2 years ahead, planned to do them all tonight. I would never tell her not to do them. However, this week is about taking a break and family time so if they do not get done then oh well.

Our district sent an email today that said part of their solution to starting with 400 vacancies is to give the remaining teachers more students per class.

As a teacher, I understand the pressure of standardized testing. But as her grade proves, she understands the material. This is busy work, not differentiated assignments that will target her needs.
My 12 yo touched my heart tonight. He is a pretty quiet child compared to his boisterous and verbose older siblings. But today when I gave him the standard questions after school about how his day went, he gave me very little information but then he said, “Mom, some days I give
A quick story about Momming preteens:
Made sausage for breakfast.
11 year old: Is there bacon?
Me: No, I made sausage.
Next morning, I made bacon.
Me: There’s bacon today.
11 year old: No thanks.

Yes! They might be incredibly brilliant in math for example but that in no way means they can explain it to anyone else, especially someone who is struggling.
I finally got to peek behind the veil at Microsoft Designer and after about 2.5 seconds I have already found something I love...previewing different fonts without having to change the text! 😍 Thank you,

What do you do when your hubby is finally sprung from the hospital? Why, you take a four mile hike and then grab a quick beer before driving to Salzburg. 😂 This is how I know he is better - he’s leaving me in his dust again. He isn’t out of the woods yet (have to follow up
How do we get from “I love all the technology you’re teaching me, but I don’t have time to implement this” to “ I love all the technology are teaching me and I can’t wait to implement this!”
Just a small change of words but a mindset so large it feels like moving mountains.

I showed my daughter that I had learned to change the text color for signs so she showed me this trick with dye/squid ink and that is why kids will always know more than me. 😂

Oh me too! Me too! 24 years in and I still fail. Most recently: I got a new student. She is a selective mute. Mom emailed me to tell me three weeks before the class starts that the girl has cards that she will show me once she’s in class. Everything is good. My class starts two
@cmehigh
All of this has already been answered many times over in my responses on my previous Tweet. I haven’t bashed any teachers. I called out bad practice.
Today is our 25th anniversary and we celebrated with a tour of Rheinfels (a castle ruin originally built in 1245) and a paddle boat cruise down the Rhine River to view both restored and ruined castles built over a 1,000 year period. There are about 40 castles and forts in the
A year ago, I drove to Atlanta. I didn’t know a soul, but I was determined to meet like-minded people. Looking back a year later, I can say with 💯% certainty that I accomplished my mission.

It’s such a vicious cycle because as parents we have good intentions for our children and most teachers do as well, but they don’t always align and the kids get stuck somewhere in between. My child is a people pleaser and and high achiever so in her mind if she doesn’t complete

did not disappoint. It was great to re-connect with educators I already knew, see some f2f for the first time, and meet new people. Had to check out the Rocky statue before we left. Why are people nervous when you run up steps in flip flops? 😂
@TechySewell
I love this but we both know it comes out of the teacher’s pocket, not the school/district. No kid who walks in my room ever has to worry about a pencil, paper, etc. I am so blessed that my basic supply needs are met each year by donation so my students never have to worry.
Now a moment that absolutely thrilled me.

But this year he has started using

Success!! All year a 2nd grade teacher has resisted using

Today was the first day of Minecraft Student Ambassador Club! Although there were definitely a few hiccups, overall it was a huge success. 🎉 Did I mention we had nearly twice as many students in the club as last year? Yep, over 100 students applied and almost 75 were recommended
Took my hubby to a dr appt today and I was sitting across from a woman who I thought looked familiar but I couldn’t place her. I noticed she too was sneaking glances at me and after about 20 minutes in the waiting room she said what’s your name? I told her my name and she said no
Tomorrow is the first day back for teachers, but technically I don’t have to get up as early as usual since I won’t have kid drop off first. Still going to try to get up at that time, but setting some back ups just in case. What about you?
Guess what time it is?! It’s Minecraft Monday for 5th grade! For this new unit we wanted to tie in their social studies unit on the American Revolution. Stay tuned…
