Deegan is our Mayor, not our Monarch. Waiting until nightfall before taking a backhoe to the Women of the South monument is blatant overreach.
This was Council’s decision to make. Regardless of your opinion of the monument, this is abuse of power & disregard for transparency.
The anti-Semitism seen across Jax this weekend has no place in our city or our country. Let’s not forget that America has fought FOR liberty and AGAINST bigotry more than any nation in history. Bigotry disrespects those discriminated against AND those who fought & bled to end it.
Thank you Attorney General

Introducing this resolution for emergency passage at City Council tomorrow night.
“The City of Jacksonville mourns lives lost through these violent acts and stands unequivocally with Israel as it defends itself in the war launched by the terrorist organization Hamas.”
Was called “Lex Luther,” “Mr. Clean” and “Voldemort” by far left activists tonight, all in a span of 1 minute during City Council public comment.
That’s on top of being called a “Cueball-headed Cretin” just a few months ago!
Silly name calling won’t shake my resolve in
My office is continuing to investigate this matter thoroughly, including exploring options to terminate this contract and run a proper competitive solicitation. I urge
@MayorDeegan
’s staff to attend our Nov 7 Finance Committee to answer questions and provide needed transparency.
We don’t have a confederate statue crisis. We have an abuse of power crisis.
The Mayor overreached. She used an unsigned, undated draft of a legal opinion to bypass Council’s authority, and then acted under the cover of night, notifying select Council Members and not others. Her
City Council’s Finance Committee specifically mandated that any funding to be spent on the statue - whether for removal, relocation, or contextualization - must follow a Council policy decision. This was UNANIMOUSLY approved by the Council and signed by the Mayor.
Veteran suicides in Northeast Florida dropped from 78 in 2019 to 42 in 2021. That’s a 46% decrease - by far the best in the State and likely the nation. Our community is fighting and our programs are working. Together, we will end veteran suicide.
Praying for the victims and their families after the senseless and horrific tragedy near EWU earlier today. There’s no place for racially-motivated violence, or violence of any kind, in our community.
Thank you to my colleagues for passing the “Transparency for Taxpayers Act!” This legislation provides crucial reform and oversight to STOP lobbyists from getting no-bid contracts from City Hall!

I saw the graffiti at the shopping mall on Beach Blvd myself before it was covered. Disgusting and abhorrent. There’s no place for antisemitism in our city, our state, our universities, or our country.
Our message has resonated with voters - strong support for public safety, job growth and improvement in the quality of life for every neighborhood. I will be your champion for these issues on Council. Thank you all!
We may have disagreements on policy, and we may have disagreements on the role of government, but we all served our Country and I’m proud to know & serve with these fine individuals. 🇺🇸
Even if I do wish they were Dems!
Yesterday‘s testimony shows beyond any doubt that
@MayorDeegan
coerced the City’s new General Counsel into manufacturing a legal opinion to justify her executive overreach.
A “difficult conversation with the Mayor” caused the GC to reverse his legal opinion in her favor.
Why
The Transparency for Taxpayers Act, passed overwhelmingly by City Council in January, is now law.
While the Mayor was not supportive and chose to return the legislation without signature, her veto window expired last night.
No longer will sole source contracts to lobbying

As a former Mayor, Council President, School Board President, and Florida House Representative, the impact that Tommy Hazouri has had on our City cannot be understated. Today, it is our distinct honor to re-name the former Mandarin Park and dedicate it as Tommy Hazouri Sr. Park.
To me, one measure of a great leader is how much freedom and individual liberty he or she has created for others. Dr. King’s contributions to freedom were immense and profound. Without doubt one of America’s greatest leaders.
Florida is the best state to start a small business and Jax is the best metro area for small businesses in Florida, according to The Credit Review.
Main reason? Our low taxes. That’s also why large businesses continue to move and expand here.
Keep bringing the jobs, Jax!
Wise words about preventative cancer screening - and how it likely saved his life - from my good friend Councilman Terrance Freeman.
On ‘This Week in Jacksonville,’ starts at 9:10.
Great having you back Terrance!
3 months ago I said the justification for this no-bid contract seemed flimsy and the contract itself smelled fishy. That was clearly an understatement.
It downright reeks.
Now we know why.
@MayorDeegan
approved this contract behind closed doors, resisted my request to re-bid
This deal, approved last night, brings 250 jobs and $20m in capital investment to our west side!
Only possible b/c of legislation we drafted last year amending COJ’s incentive plan to make Jax more attractive for manufacturers and distributors.

Good question. Starts with better school options, more jobs, safer streets and improved infrastructure, particularly in our NW district. Check out my past on those issues … and look up my votes while on Charter Revision.
Introduced the Transparency for Taxpayers Act today.
"We need to ensure we are good stewards of taxpayer dollars … this bill will require additional transparency, integrity, and accountability for these contracts going forward. It is time to put an end to the backroom deals.”
Waiting on more info, but it appears our Mayport-based USS Carney continues to perform efficiently and as trained, defending friendly shipping and saving lives in the Red Sea. Great quote: the American destroyer "did not let them come too close."
Welcome home USS Billings!
These pics show why we need more veterans on Council. 1 in 4 area citizens has ties to the military. Our leaders need to understand the challenges our military families face.
I did a similar counter narcotics deployment … 24 years ago!
Discussed the 46% decrease in veteran suicide we are seeing across NE Florida on TWIJ w/ Kent Justice this morning. Starts at min 14. It is clear as ever … NE Florida values and supports our nation’s veterans.
He’s a true American hero. As a Navy veteran who’s spent most of my post-Navy career manufacturing life rafts, I’d heard about French’s heroics a few times. This honor is long overdue.
