@TheLeft38821 @JCS_1956 @BladeoftheS @DonFbpe 1. I'm not in that 1/3. It might boggle your mind that people think about others. 2. I didn't say anything like that. But keep on making dumb points like that. It really helps.

@Grumpyo13176612 @JCS_1956 @BladeoftheS @DonFbpe Dumb. That's not how anyone gets a pension. If farmers have been stupid enough to not build a pension before now, that's their own fault. Ps. Most people in this country wishes at retirement they owned a home at all, let alone fully paid for. Every single post like this 🙄

@upwoodfarm @slainefeanor @PhilipProudfoot Yes, it will. Because it's suddenly half as desirable. Once the new norm is established, the goalposts will move again, discussing the behaviour even further.

@dblancashire @JCS_1956 @BladeoftheS @DonFbpe £45k per year is the top 20% of rangers in the UK. Most people build up decent pensions while earning far less. If I had £10m in assets, I'd sell up and earn interest to support my family, as that would be far higher than 45k. No-one feels sorry for a person in that situation.

@HeldinEU @shadowjazzy1 @JCS_1956 @BladeoftheS @DonFbpe ... And? You might need to add some context since this has nothing to do with the conversation.

@anarchronicity @TillyVarty @JCS_1956 @BladeoftheS @DonFbpe I am a rural person and grew up in a farm town. There a rich farmers and poor farmers. The poor ones won't be paying IHT. The poor ones don't have other options. The rich ones are rich enough to do whatever they want. But the ones that work 70 hours, they are not altruistic.

@ltg1810 @JCS_1956 @BladeoftheS @DonFbpe Nothing I said suggested farms should do so without assets. Clearly my point was that at least 1/3 of this country is far worse off. Tax exists to ensure the wealthy support the poor who allow their business to exist (without that 1/3 eating the food farms produce, they'd fail).

@anarchronicity @Grumpyo13176612 @JCS_1956 @BladeoftheS @DonFbpe No. You said if the farms fail. My point clearly was that even if the worst happens, you still walk away with a massive lump sum. For a large portion of people in this country, if even a minor problem occurs (say an unexpected repair bill) they can end up using food banks.

@jimmythecable @itssteveyall @PhilipProudfoot I live in the south of England. What a stupid comment.

@Pr0bP0stL1b @shadowjazzy1 @JCS_1956 @BladeoftheS @DonFbpe Having an asset that allows you to borrow £750k is not normal living. But your come back showed how much of child you are and warrants not longer bothering with you.

@anarchronicity @PhilipProudfoot Not evaded. Proper management by families make IHT not apply. It doesn't protect people who buy the land for warmth. The point is to stop the latter.

@dblancashire @JCS_1956 @BladeoftheS @DonFbpe Which can all still be done without leaving a loophole that allows rich landowners to avoid IHT. Normal people can easily avoid IHT through proper retirement and succession plans.

@TheLeft38821 @JCS_1956 @BladeoftheS @DonFbpe At least a 3rd (like more, but stats aren't specific enough) of this country are far poorer than any farmer that has enough assets to qualify for IHT. Just because you're not as rich doesn't mean you lose all responsibility over your fellow man.

@ltg1810 @JCS_1956 @BladeoftheS @DonFbpe The farms don't stop existing. What a tone deaf post from someone who doesn't understand wealth. 1/3 of families in this country don't have any assets. 1/3 of individuals have less than £1000 of a savings.

@TillyVarty @JCS_1956 @BladeoftheS @DonFbpe Then sell up and change career. This flex of long hours and little money is a farce. If it was such a hard life, people would have given up and retired in the interest (if they owned farms valuable enough to qualify for IHT). They don't because they benefit from the business.

@01robust @JCS_1956 @BladeoftheS @DonFbpe IF they pay IHT. That's a big IF. Proper retirement planning of family business owners easily avoids IHT. Farmers just don't want to change the status quo.

@DeanIvy3 @JCS_1956 @BladeoftheS @DonFbpe The owners of farms that qualify for IHT are not doing this. They have others (often family) doing this for them, as the owner is already later in life. At this point they should have already planned their retirement and handed the farm over to the family actually doing the work.

@shadowjazzy1 @JCS_1956 @BladeoftheS @DonFbpe If you can afford to borrow £750,000 and a bank will let you, you're already at an elite level of wealth. This is not the flex you think it is. You're so removed from the understanding of normal living.

@Grumpyo13176612 @JCS_1956 @BladeoftheS @DonFbpe You clearly know how little a larger portion of this country earns. If everything fails, a farmer can sell off their property and retire on the interest of the sale. Most people, if they lose their job, they have nothing. Can't afford rent anymore, no savings and no assets.

@abbeylinegold @JCS_1956 @BladeoftheS @DonFbpe Many people can't afford to generate savings to fall back on. Again, wealth ignorance. Ps. You just described every other self-employed/small business person who works outdoors. Why should they have to be more careful in planning their retirement than farmers?
