I always tell people how proud I am of them WHEN they struggle. Meeting challenges and finding creative solutions is what being a physician is all about!
If you’re proud of your trainees when they do well and pretend they don’t exist when they struggle, you’re not a mentor. People need more support, not less, when they’re struggling. We can do better. #WednesdayWisdom

@stacybmitchell Much of training is your own reading and studying, most everywhere will be the same with a few exceptions. All that extra life stuff makes a world of difference when you’re at max capacity during residency. And makes for better learning imho

@blondemedSJW There’s a Detroit based company that makes winter coats that turn into sleeping bags. Can purchase or sponsor coats. They also employ local people who are experiencing or at risk for being houseless!

@panscan27 @olsonplanner I disagree, money isn’t everything. I left a high pay/high demand specialty because of job satisfaction. I enjoy knowing a little about everything and genuinely helping people. The need for PCPs is so great the impact of a single FM doc is greater than any other specialty.

@olsonplanner As FM a LOT. Notes, results, pt cases for refills. Amongst all the other residency extras others listed, research, modules, logging hours, logging patients, evals, etc etc etc etc it never ends 😭

@KeenanPeachy They don’t care or are turning a blind eye or gaslighting the people who care deeply about racism/trans/gay/immigrants/etc. Often this is the deal breaker because it goes beyond what’s used to be “regular” politics.

@MidwestDeborah @marriedtooyoung @JoyceCarolOates No, that study was specifically about reduction in mortality and cannot be extrapolated to say we should not be doing mammograms. Your doctor was wrong.

@MidwestDeborah @marriedtooyoung @JoyceCarolOates None of that is true and even trained exams are severely limited and you risk catching it too late.

@RipDaJUULz @DrJaclynnMoskow Well known to FM docs, we avoid specifically Paxil or warn heavily about this side effect and use other and even non conventional SSRIS/SNRIS
