Incredible aerial footage of the
#CedarCreekFire
that gives some perspective on the enormity of this fire. It began August 1, 2022 when a lightning storm caused 20 to 30 new fires on the Willamette National Forest.
Video🎥: Cedar Creek Fire North Area aerial view, NW IMT 6.
To date, nearly 85% of all fires in the NW are human caused and preventable. The upcoming heatwave and severe weather
will be difficult for everyone, but especially for firefighters. Let's give them a break and do our part to prevent any new human caused fires.
WOW! We saw A LOT 😲of lightning ⚡️in the PNW. When we say a lot we mean...A LOT!
From Tuesday evening into Wednesday we saw 5,473 strikes run across almost ALL of OR and many parts of WA too. OR saw the bulk of the 5,223 strikes and WA saw 250 strikes.
#fireyear2022
Fire officials are prepositioning initial attack resources throughout the NW in preparation for extreme heat and fire weather watches and warnings across most of the geographic area. Please know and follow local fire restrictions to stop any new human caused fires.
Sometimes firefighters do more than fight fires! In this new 📸 from the Cedar Creek Fire staff from the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife and firefighters are seen responding to an injured 🐻 cub. The bear cub had and injured snout and is expected to make full❤️recovery!
Initial attack resources are prepositioned throughout the NW to respond to emerging incidents that may occur from last nights lightning. Any new human caused fire will take valuable firefighting resources away from fires we can't prevent. Spark change, not wildfires.
The Pacific NW will move to Preparedness Level Four at 1200 today, August 12. With projected thunderstorms coming to the Region, please let us all work together and prevent human caused fires. Every new preentable fire start will take critical resources away from existing fires.
Incredible photo 😳 from the Schneider Springs Fire. The Schneider Springs Fire is currently 7,150 Acres and it is 10 percent contained. Schneider Springs began on August 4, and it is 18 mi NW of Naches, WA.
More info 👇
The NW currently has over 2,600 firefighters and support personnel working on 7 large fires with 52,800 affected acres. Firefighting resources are prepositioned to address new starts with red flag warnings and heat warnings across most of the geographic area.
The Bootleg 🔥Fire is now 🎉CONTAINED! At one point the Bootleg Fire was the largest in the county and it still stands as the third largest fire in Oregon's history in the modern era -- 1992 to present.
With Halloween 🎃💀👻just right around the corner it seemed fitting that we’d take some time to focus on 🎃 pumpkins! No. Not those pumpkins, but wildland firefighting water storage tanks.
🎃Pumpkins are often at drop points that are located along the perimeter of the fire.
On August 19, 2015, three firefighters, Richard Wheeler, 31, Andrew Zajac, 26 and Tom Zbyszewki, 20, were overrun and killed by fire on the Twisp River Fire in WA. Another firefighter, Daniel Lyons, also was gravely injured. Remember them today as fire activity grows across PNW.
The PNW experienced numerous lightning strikes this weekend, sparking new wildfires, adding to the region's high fire activity. Some holdover fires from these strikes may continue to pose a risk, especially with dry conditions and gusty winds.
Tuesday 🔥update!
