Your BLM public lands in Oregon and Washington have had over 100 wildfires so far this year. An estimated 80% of these have been caused by humans.
Help us keep people and natural landscapes safe always following our fire restrictions!
It's not uncommon to see antelope near Duncan Reservoir, but this is the largest herd we've seen in a long time!
Nestled in sagebrush rangelands, Duncan Reservoir is a great place for picnicking, camping, antelope watching, and (when it's not frozen solid) canoeing.
Rare interaction with a Giant Pacific Octopus! 🐙
These typically shy creatures are usually only spotted a couple times a year at Cobble Beach. Rarely has one showed off like this to so many onlookers, even popping out of the water to say hello!

Cougar and bobcat spotting near Alsea, Oregon! ❤
We didn't mean to build a cat bridge, but we aren't complaining. These logs were placed on Mill Creek by our fisheries and hydrology teams to help restore degraded habitat. As a bonus, local cats now have a new favorite walkway.
Happy birthday, Oregon. 💚💚
From the tallest lighthouse (Yaquina Head at 93 feet) to the deepest river gorge in the country (Hells Canyon at 7,900 feet), we love calling this place home.
New discovery: Archaeologists from
@uoregon
have found evidence suggesting humans occupied an area outside of Riley, Oregon, more than 18,000 years ago!
That date suggests that the area is one of the oldest sites of human occupation in North America.
Our wildlife biologists are restoring Oregon grasslands by reintroducing a native species! 🐪❤
You may not associate camels with the PNW, but the ancient species Camelops originated here. Now our wildlife biologists are welcoming back herds of giant camels to your public lands.
A rare look at the giant Pacific octopus, one of the most strange and intelligent creatures of the seas!
Spotting these creatures is no easy feat; they can change both the color and texture of their skin to match their surroundings.

Wishing you a peaceful, silent night from the snowy depths of the Steen Mountain Wildnerness
Steens Mountain is located in Oregon’s high desert and is one of the crown jewels of the state. It is some of the wildest and most remote land left in Oregon.

Happy winter solstice from us and the snowy depths of our Steens Mountain Wilderness! In 2000, Congress designated Steens Mountain as protected Wilderness, meaning those 170k acres receive the highest level of our protection.

We love our two new vault restrooms, because they're helping keep the Alvord Desert clean and healthy! You'll find them (and a new 30-yard dumpster!) at Frog Springs.

Purple sunset over Oregon's only saltwater lake 💜
Somewhere between five and 23 million years ago, basaltic flood lavas covered much of eastern Oregon. Great blocks of the Earth's crust tilted and created the Lake Abert lakebed and Abert Rim seen today.

What happens to the desert in winter? It turns to ice. 🥶
The Alvord Desert in southeast Oregon gets about seven inches a year in precipitation, including the occasional bit of snow. Sometimes the moisture freezes over, creating this stunning ice rink.

Can you spot the bobcat sheltering from the snow?
This cat was spotted near the Beulah Reservoir. According to

, bobcats are not generally considered a threat to people due to their small size. But no matter how cute they are, picking up their kittens is still illegal.
