So many memories jam packed into a weekend I would’ve never, in a million years thought could turn out the way it did. The community being as kind as it is allowed me to gain confidence in myself as I progressed forward on day 2, for that I will be forever thankful.

I made top 4 at NAIC! At this point i am still at a loss for words. Going into day two I truly felt like the “underdewgong” going into every matchup. I am so thankful for all of the genuinely kind people I’ve met that calmed me down when I got overwhelmed. Worlds baby!

5 years ago I completed my fitness journey, I hit 165lbs after starting at 290. What was simultaneously the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my entire life, was also the most rewarding.

Legend achieved! Earliest by far, two straight seasons where I’ve stuck to a team that I thought was good into the meta and both teams got me over the hump.
Team works with shadow Gligar too, I just don’t have one. Recommend Shadow Claw Aslash for opposing water and steel types.

- take a long look at the TM structure. Earning 2 charged TMs from a raid only for the first TM to remove Psyshock from my A9 for Blizzard, while the second TM removes Blizzard only to re-teach Psyshock is not a rewarding structure for PvP centric players.

Up 300 points in 3 days to hit legend using this really strong Halloween cup team!
Crunch/Discharge Charjabug + Palossand core is very strong into the meta, round it out with a bulky water that beats other waters (Toxapex).
Happy to finally hit so I can relax..

for letting me steal his Shadow Dragonite/Jellicent core. I preferred Politoed over Quag so I wasn’t as weak to A-slash energy in the back, can also tank a grass move easier. Shadow Golbat/Scrafty core got me to the 2900s but this one got me over the hump!

This one took a while but I used this team to finally cross the finish line.
Whiscash and Gligar are both shadow, I don’t think it’s necessarily a balanced team but I did get favorable comps. 10-0 this morning to get there. Hoping for a meta shakeup next season!

Secured a 5-0 sweep in my first local Play! Pokémon challenge of the season. Felt good to compete again in-person, first time in about 5 months.
Dewgong/Charjabug core is slept on right now, GGs to all of my opponents!

Tied for 9th, top cut. Knoxville was the first tournament I’ve attended where I had expectations for myself. While I am happy overall with the result I do feel a critical weakness to Charjabug really stalled a lot of my momentum, which is unfortunate. Brief thread incoming.

If Skarmory/Whiscash is going to stick around then I really hope more grass types in the meta will get some type of coverage to fight back against Skarmory.
Weather Ball Fire, Rock Slide, stone edge would be nice additions for a typing that is sorely missed in the current meta.

This is Tatum’s fault btw according to Van Gundy. Bam couldn’t just contest without stepping under his landing zone or anything. He had to step under Tatum’s feet to send a message because of “Heat culture 😏”

This team is very strong in the current meta, 3 Pokémon that have a lot of play outside of 1 or 2 terrible matchups.
Managed to go 19-6 with it, including a 14 game win streak. Moonblast Cresselia, purified Sableye (although shadow works too)

As someone that’s experienced significant issues at every in-person event I’ve attended - I’ll say it’s becoming more and more difficult to justify the financial and personal investment required to attend these events. Especially considering the current inconsistencies with PvP.

The state of PvP desparately needs to be addressed. Old issues like 1 turn lag when pokemon are brought in and fast move damage inconsistently applying before or after charged moves have been long standing glitches severely impacting games.

Final results for the 2024 season, while I did meet my criteria for attending more regionals this year, I must say I feel overall my performance fell short of what I expected from myself, specifically NAIC.
That won’t happen again. Excited for the circuit next year!

1-2 at worlds was definitely not what I expected, but I also didn’t even expect to be in Japan at the end of June. An absolutely amazing opportunity that I’ll forever be thankful for.
Excited for the rest of my brief time in Japan and for the next season of competition!

Steel wing Skarmory/Whiscash is the new Skarmory/Swampert, the meta is very alignment dependent right now.. but fun.
From what I’ve seen your best bets for corebreakers are Shadow Dragonair, Dewgong (yes, I’m advocating for Dewgong, deal with it), and Lickitung.

Respectfully, removing surf or jab brings Clodsire from meta-relevant Nidoqueen replacement to another mediocre Toxapex.
If popular teams in GBL are triple weak to a ground/poison type because there aren’t any strong enough to threaten them then you have a meta issue.

The frustration is coming from the idea that a legitimate meta corebreaker is now an underwhelming side-character.
Going from safety into a Medi/Gligar/Serperior/Registeel/Lickitung meta to handedly losing to all of those Pokémon besides Regi is extremely disappointing.

Indianapolis was a great time. Starting off 0-1 truly is as deflating of a feeling as you think it is. I was able to recover and make a strong loser’s run to day 2, then eventually a top 16 finish in the largest NA regional of the season, final record of 8-2.

These are my meta predictions:
Less Gligar, less Skarmory because less Gligar
Whiscash/Mantine will replace Skarmory/Cash.
Shadow Feraligator is meta, Charjuabug will be omega strong, Altaria looks very solid with Mantine giving up ice beam.

Okay, my rational reaction to what is a massive letdown of changes is: We should get nothing but ACTUAL. NUMBERS. when moveset updates are announced.
“Energy cost increased” or “Energy cost decreased” cannot be acceptable from a game that is trying to grow as an E-sport.

Also, while I think a lot of people were advocating for one of a skarmory or scald nerf,
I do want give Niantic credit for trying to adjust to the scald meta by buffing corrbreakers to Whiscash/Skarmory as opposed to just reverting the changes that were made last season.

I am back home for a wedding, there is a tiny diner between the train tracks in the old mill area near where I grew up.
They have, without question the best lobster rolls. It’s been very nice being home to see friends and family, the break from GO has been refreshing too

Shadow Ball Toxicroak is probably the big winner, fire buffs are nice, no more Bulldoze for Vigoroth is also a good change. I don’t know if anything else on the list really impacts the meta too drastically.
We’ll need to see where the Steel wing and Mud slap energy land.

Initially bummed it wasn’t dragon claw but I think this gives Goodra some coverage that other dragons don’t have, which will make it stand out. This also replaces Lanturn’s meta coverage while being much less polarizing.

Niantic gets a lot of flack but the past 2-3 updates have improved the variety of the P!P meta significantly with this update being the best improvement for variety.
I do think they deserve some credit for that.

The CP system is an improvement, however I think there can be some fine tuning, Lyle is 100% correct here. I support my bald Canadian friend.
I am happy for all the new worlds qualifiers I am seeing. But sad that I am still the only Canadian that has qualified. The CP system is just not feasible for many Canadians. In the future I am hopeful that there is a way to address this.

A 2400-2500s battler is good enough to know how to win games with a favorable team comp advantage or dominant alignment.
A player that constantly hits legend is good enough to find win conditions in scenarios lower elo players would chalk up to “RPS”.
That is the difference.

The community is probably the only thing that keeps me coming to these events as it’s truly one of the best I’ve ever been a part of. However the inconsistent performance of PvP really challenges that love of the community, it’s very deflating at times.

Every critical game I’ve ever had on stream has been impacted by catastrophic lag (vs Reis 2023, at NAIC, vs Poly 2024 at Knoxville) or 1 turn lag inconsistencies (vs GordonTheFlash 2024 at Indy).
I’ve also had total battle crashes off stream against numerous opponents.

My biggest takeaway from watching LAIC is Poison Jab/Surf Clodsire would’ve been perfectly fine in this meta.
It still would’ve hard lost and hard won the polarizing matchups while having the flexibility of a Lickitung or Medicham. Atleast it’s getting some niche play though.

At this point it basically covers the same role as Gligar while losing to Medi. Beats Regi, Carbink, Grass but loses to ice and is neutral into the bulk of Lickitung and Umbreon.
So I ask you this, would you realistically bring Clodsire over Gligar in a team of 6 at any point?

I’ve fluctuated in weight +\- 10lbs over the past few years but have always tried to maintain some level of dedication to staying in some type of shape. To anyone wondering if a fitness journey is worth the work I can say with full confidence it 100% is.

As a superstitious competitor I decided to try the notepad strategy for the first time ever during Indy. I wrote down my opponent’s team and my team Rd 1, lost, threw the notepad out then didn’t lose again til day 2.
I will never use a notepad again.
