It was confirmed by the PCG that, through the invitation of the Philippines, the US Coast Guard will start deploying its ships in the West Philippine Sea to assist the Philippines. Surely China will not be happy with this. But this is just a reaction to China's aggression.

The Philippine Navy is not the only buyer of Brahmos Maritime Coastal Batteries. The Philippine Army will also get 2 batteries, if initial funding is released in the next few weeks. That brings 5 batteries of supersonic anti-ship missiles, for medium term, and more in long term.

Finally the US$500m FMF grant for the 🇵🇭PH, the first of such kind, will be announced by as part of 2+2 Dialogue between 🇵🇭PH and 🇺🇲US Defense and Foreign Affairs Departments. I expect this to be spent on either new and/or used F-16 fighters, used LCS and HIMARS.

The Philippine Navy should consider this: A squadron of 12 new Tejas/ FA-50s, or used F-16 Baraks costs a little over 2 corvettes. The fighters can deliver anti-ship missiles faster than ships & can survive better by RTB after firing. Remember Argentina's Super Etendards.

The Philippines plans to procure more than 40 multirole fighter aircraft as part of Re-Horizon 3. TV5 News said 49 for Php400 billion, but based on official Re-Horizon 3 its closer to 40 fighters for Php405 billion but this includes funds for ammunition & support structures.

This is what we know about yesterday's SINKEX phase of Exercise BALIKATAN 2023: 1. BRP Jose Rizal (FF-150) conducted naval gunnery at 0630H. This was before media & Pres. Marcos arrived. Apparently it fired an unknown number of 76mm ammo, hitting the target multiple times.

🇫🇷France and the 🇵🇭Philippines will start discussions on the proposed Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA) between the 2 countries as part of an earlier agreement to boost defense ties. This will become the legal framework of visiting French forces during exercises in the Philippines.

We received confirmation from industry & defense sources that the Scorpene-class submarine offered to Philippine Navy also uses lithium ion batteries, similar to offer made to Indonesia. This means PN's offer wad also based on Scorpene Evolved. 1/x

From sources, TAI has completed 2 T129B ATAK attack helicopters for Philippine Air Force, scheduled for delivery by November 2021. With LHTEC engines, believed to be from TAI's stocks delivered before export license issues with US.

Aaide from US$500 million FMF grant to the Philippimes, the US has confirmed that US$128 million would be allocated to improving Philippine military facilities under EDCA for FY2025. In comparsiom, the US has spent only US$56.8 million for EDCA from 2014 to 2023. 📷ABSCBN News

The DND confirmed the status of the Multirole Fighter Acquisition Project of the Philippine Air Force in a report as of July 2023, as waiting only for the ratification of the MoU with Sweden, which confirms that Saab was indeed selected with its JAS-39C/ Gripen MS20+ config. 1/x

PCG confirmed that they would be acquiring 5 more Magbanua-class (mod Kunigami-class) 97m offshore patrol vessels from Japan, to be paid for via Japan ODA. This will beef up PCG's offshore capabilities in line with their fleet expansion plans.

China is denying that they were behind the dumping of dead corals on Sabina Shoal, and claims the Philippines is fabricating stories. So will China have no issue if the Philippines sends a ship to suck out the dead corals & reinstate the shoal to being an underwater feature?

As part of Exercise BALIKATAN 2024, the Philippine Navy will conduct live fire exercise using its SSM-700K C-Star anti-ship missiles from the frigate BRP Antonio Luna (FF-151). The missile, plus other air, land & sea launched munitions ia acheduled to sink a retired PN ship.

Still unconfirmed, but I received a few shoulder taps since 2 months ago saying the delivery of Pandur II Sabrah wheeled tanks for the 🇵🇭 Philippine Army was cancelled. Instead Elbit Systems will deliver more ASCOD 2 Sabrah tracked tanks in its place. 📷 PAFU-II 1/x

The US still has an impending US$100 million worth of Foreign Military Financing (FMF) grant for the Philippine Air Force for the acquisition of helicopters to replace the failed deal with Russia to procure Mil Mi-171 Hip helicopters. The Philippines has yet to use this grant.

PH Ambassador to US Babes Romualdez said the US is urging PH to procure a squadron of F-16s from a 3rd party country for now. But PH procurement laws needed to be revised to allow procurement of used assets. This effort is separate from current effort to procure new Gripen Cs.

The planned increase in the FY2024 AFP Modernization budget by 🇵🇭 Senate will be used to boost the country's air defenses. Our sources confirmed its specifically "air interdiction" The additional funds for 2024 is >enough for DP for more MRFs than originally planned.

The Philippine Air Force has dropped the TAI T129B ATAK attack helicopter as its choice due to Turkey's inability to confirm their ability to import engines and avionics from the US and UK. The PAF TWG has selected an American helicopter to replace it.
