Every young person should see a video on YouTube by Graham Weaver. It's titled "How to Live an Asymmetric Life". Timeless principles in that 33-minute lecture that can set you up for life!
1. Was born with a club foot.
2. Fell off a moving car when I was 7.
3. Fell from a story building at 11.
4. Had mental issues after the fall.
But in all these, Jesus said, your story isn’t over. You were born for greatness.
Again, please go and learn soft skills. Soft skills like communication, emotional intelligence, relationship management, etiquette, etc. Hard skills will get you into the room but you see soft skills? They will keep you there!

Unpopular opinion:
You'll learn more about marketing and sales from reading psychology books and studying the human mind than you would from reading your favorite marketing book.
Applied for something 2 months ago and it has been pending approval. This morning I prayed and said “Jesus I trust you to sort this out. I trust you to handle this” and he said “don’t worry I got you!”.
30 minutes later I got an approval text.
Is Jesus not just amazing?!
RAVAGE UPRISING/ My Ancestors bronzes sit in the museum of this very city so I remade mine. Hence, Edo is redefined, the map reshaped, your minds awakened & the mask reborn. Thank you London! 🦇🇬🇧
Bought my Dad a new phone today 🫶🏽
He got me my first laptop when I was 13 and an ipad at 15. He has done a lot for me that I can’t even start counting. This is just the beginning. Next is to get him a new car ☺️
Hey Man! I slept off last night but I am up now so let me give a response.
NOTE: Please my response is not in any form an avenue to start a banter, attack, argument or what have you but so we can see things from each others point of view and learn from each other. Cool? Awesome!
People underestimate the amount of work it takes to achieve anything great in this life. Be it a great business or a great marriage. You can’t run away from the hard work it takes.
Again, I won't sponsor your event just to have my logo on the backdrop/flyer. Please be more creative. You are asking for $$. How will that translate to more users/customers for us?
Proud of our product marketing intern at Selar. She wrote a product feature announcement email yesterday that brought in people signing up on our subscription plans. She’s just been with us for 3 months and she’s moving mountains already 👏
One mistake I see most people early in their marketing career make is trying to take courses on product marketing or learn product marketing.
Don’t get me wrong. Please learn all you want to but…
If you have no knowledge about marketing, you have no marketing skills...
When their startup fails they won't take responsibility for their failure but will be blaming marketers even if marketers are the most underpaid in the ecosystem but when the startup succeeds, no credits will go to the marketing team at all. Please rest!
I was born with a club foot on my left foot. The doctor said for me to be able to walk properly like other kids, they had to break my left foot to fix it.
One week after birth, operation started. I can’t remember how the pain felt but my Dad said I cried my eyes out whenever
@tosinolaseinde
The title is a VERY GOOD COPY! Word of mouth marketing for this book is great too and then there is FOMO - almost everyone wants to talk about the book when they are done reading it so they can "feel among" and oh yeah I am sure the book is relatable.
I might get canceled for this but I’ll say it.
If you are young and you are just starting your career and life, get a job even if you are making money or know how to. It’s not about the money though. It’s about learning, connecting with people and building solid character.
Today makes it one year since I stepped into the role as Chief Marketing Officer at Selar. I am grateful for the opportunity to lead, the amazing humans I get to work with, and our mission to grow the creator economy in Africa.
We are hiring a Content Marketing Manager to come join my team at Selar. Selar is one of the best companies you can ever work in. A healthy culture, amazing people, and the marketing team is top-notch!

Sometimes we think success is one big win. No it’s not. It’s a series of little wins here and there that compounds into something big overtime. Pause at this moment and see how far you’ve come. You made it!
I think the goal of every startup founder should be: Build a great product, make money and pay your people well enough so they don’t have to take on so many side gigs.
I think it's high time we flipped the switch and realize that growth doesn't really start from "marketing" but from the product itself. This is why you should create a product that WORKS for a hungry market. Marketing won't fix a bad product with no market need.
Something
@NaijaFlyingDr
said some years back that still resonates with me till today is "Because there's a gap in the market doesn't mean that there's a market in the gap".
Solid stuff!
If you want to Japa to Rwanda, here's the thread you've been looking for!
Last year, I decided to move to Kigali, Rwanda after visiting here in 2021. When I decided to leave Nigeria for Rwanda, it was a no brainer and here's why!
🧵
I agree with you, Sir. I’ve been living in Kigali for over a year and now it’s just AMAZING! I wrote a guide on how to relocate to Kigali from Nigeria. Check it out -
Naija Tweeps...if you're seriously considering Japa I think you should consider Rwanda 🇷🇼
Yes, it's not UK, Canada, or USA.
But that is also the positive:
Jobs, Visa, comfortable living (albeit slower pace of a small city), awesome people, and open effective government. Plus
Jesus, I commit everything I do into your hands. You see my hard work, you see my execution. Bless the works of my hands and make everything fruitful. Amen.
btw, at Selar, if you work overtime, you get paid for overtime work. Just putting this out there in case we put out a Job post, I highly suggest you apply 🫵🏾
The day I decided to go into marketing, I was very skeptical but looking back, it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made in my lifetime. Thanks to The Iconic Brand Awards for featuring me as one of the 35 Exceptional Branding/Marketing Professionals.
100% agree with this. Recently a lot of people have been asking me why am I so busy. I am in my 20s, the best and most energetic time of my life. Not being ambitious and hardworking is disrespectful to my dreams.
You guys are way too young to be this realistic, you should be as ambitious and idealistic as you can, great things weren’t built by young people who were playing it safe,
I see a lot of people starting Growth Communities for Growth and Product marketers. Great one! Next agenda, can we host a PHYSICAL Growth Conference? Just the way we have DevFest, etc. Can we also have a UNIQUE Growth conference?
What do you think?
One skill set marketer needs to posses is ownership mentality. Yes I know the company is not yours neither are you the CEO but whatever marketing role you play in the company, own it! You are the CEO of that role. Don’t be lukewarm about your work 🫶🏾
Young man! Go to the gym, start reading books, have something you are passionate about, keep a small circle, be committed to one woman, learn how to write, groom yourself and look good.
Curious to know, why do startups want to hire ONE talent that’ll do different roles. Eg; ONE person that’ll be your social media manager, email marketer, SEO writer, etc. Curious to know please
If you want to stand out at your place of work, be a;
1. Leader
2. Problem Solver
3. Executor.
If you can be at least just one of these 3, you will stand out. If you have all 3, you will be the standard.
I have gone past that stage where I am trying to read X amount of books in a year. I am more inclined to read a few impactful books slowly till I grasp the concepts and they become a lifestyle.
Okay do you know what? Let's look at the salary of one of your engineers then compare it with the salary of your "Head of Growth". LMAO. Please, please.
I really don’t get it. We say that people should celebrate their wins no matter how small it is and we go ahead to mock people because they are celebrating being part of Forbes BLK community? Can we be for real? Please celebrate your stuff. A win is a win.
Hard work is not overrated. What is overrated is working hard on the wrong things that doesn't have the potential for growth and scale. Smart work is working hard on the right things that can be scaled, automated and doesn't involve your 24/7 presence in the longterm
I don’t know who needs to hear this but if you admire something in someone and you want to learn that thing or get access to that person or build a close relationship with that person, find a way to serve that person or be of value to them.
When leading a team, allow your team members to lead. Don’t micromanage them. Allow them to make decisions, approve briefs and express their creativity. Don’t intrude!
Your job is to lead and not baby sit. Get this right and you’d have a better team spirit
One of the best ways to create a banging ad campaign is to tell a story around different use cases of the product. List out your top 3 use cases of your product and tell a story around each. You are welcome.
I think people should understand that products are not perfect. The first version of Facebook wasn’t all that but they took customers feedback and iterated. Extend grace to builders and operators. It’s not easy.
One of the hires I didn't think twice before sending her a contract. She was just the right fit for us and a year later, I must say that I am super proud of her growth and her contribution to our product.! Happy one year with us
@tryselar
Was on
@cnbcafrica
today to discuss the state of the creator economy in Africa and how platforms like
@tryselar
and YouTube helps young Africans to become creators.
10,000 people paying you 1,000 naira a month for 12 months is 120,000,000 ($100,000)
What can you build that 10,000 Nigerians would want to use and pay 1,000 for monthly judiciously for as long as the service exists?
@iSlimfit
Published my first book at 18 and second at 19. Launched my first startup at 22 (). Currently 23 and about to launch my second startup for digital creators. Also working as a product manager for a creative technology company in Lagos. Just a summary.
Don't just hire people based on their CV or cover letter alone. Give them a test/task to do to access their creativity, clarity of thinking and also skillset. This is how we've hired some of the best talents at Selar.
Picking yourself up and putting yourself out there after a disappointment, rejection, failure or heartbreak is really something. You mean you went through all that and you picked yourself up and put yourself out there again? 👏🏾👏🏾
Moved a member of my team from the Social Media team to the Content team. She seems pretty great with Content Writing/Marketing and she loves it so much! Really looking forward to her growth as she joins the Content team.
There are some opportunities you are overqualified for but procrastination, fear and imposter syndrome won't allow you apply for them. Stop looking down on yourself and take a bet on you.
Your probation period as a new hire is not for you to relax. It’s for you to SHOW yourself and let your line manager know that they made the right bet.

Earlier today with
@A_Feranmi
. Solid guy! We discussed everything Growth, product, marketing, and scaling across Africa. We are currently working on something together, excited to see how it unfolds.
You don't have to work in "tech" to actually grow as a marketer. Contrary to popular belief, I strongly recommend you work with a marketing agency if you are early in your career. With this, you will grow faster. Most of my growth in marketing was from working at an agency.
Getting started or interested in Growth Marketing? I shared some resources and materials that can help you get started in your growth marketing journey/career. Find it below
I am not interested in being part of circles or cliques. I just want to build great stuff, love up on my woman, be there for my family and travel the world.
You can have a conversation about something or pass your point without being condescending or rude about it. A lot of us here are yet to learn how to do this. I hope we learn eventually 🫶🏽
In 2024 I’ll be mentoring 4 people.
@The_Vera_
, Blessing and, Tobiloba. I don’t know who the 4th person is yet but I’ll pray about it. Once every month, we’d be having check in calls and discuss about their growth + everything marketing. My goal is to invest in their growth.
To move fast, you don't just need smart people on your team. You need executors! People that understands the importance of executing with the speed of thought!
People don’t get it. You’ll never be in your 20s again. This is the only time you’ll be. Once you are done, that’s it. Make good use of your 20s. Make the rest of your life the best of it.
Paid a visit to
@AltSchoolAfrica
Rwanda today! Amazing work they are doing at AltSchool. Had an interesting conversation with the MD at AltSchool Rwanda (
@onojarachael
) about how they are empowering Africans to build a profitable career in tech. Just phenomenal 👏🏽
