@Taniel Several of the conservative city council candidates also lost. Not all incumbents though. There were some local issues related to an entertainment district too.

@GuyNohra @RealBriansDad @CalmingSensei @j_g_allen @florian_krammer The MRI is a direct cost but the building could be indirect. I don’t know NIH but for NSF you can’t charge indirects on expensive equipment.

@CalmingSensei @RealBriansDad @GuyNohra @j_g_allen @florian_krammer Kansas gets $150 million with a rate of 50% so $50 million of $150 is for indirects. 50/150=0.333 or 33.3% of the total.

@RealBriansDad @CalmingSensei @GuyNohra @j_g_allen @florian_krammer For example, an MRI has to be put in a building capable of venting the helium in case of an emergency shutdown. Some EEGs need to be in shielded rooms. Other times temperatures must be constant etc.

At the end of the thread is a link to a sub stack that links to a history of F&A and federal grants given as testimony by a former OU VPR. Some light Saturday evening reading.

What NIH purports to do here is illegal. In annual appropriations bills for the past several years, Congress has specifically banned NIH from changing indirect costs:

@AnneliseRussell I’m old enough to remember when every congressional office had CQ weekly and National Journal delivered.

@RadiNabulsi It’s odd that the SEC follows the FY dates that only Texas uses.

@MichaelAlbertMD My view on this has probably changed over the last month but it’s too bad NIH, NSF, etc. don’t have free journals.
