It’s because of $ Everyone is preoccupied with their home value. They want it to be low when it gets assessed for taxes and then high when it comes time to sell.
I hate homeownership so much. It’s sad that folks save for retirement by bullying their neighborhood into soulessness
No, $5k for a 2 night experience was “Difficult To Explain to your Spouse, Bank Account, and Self Respect”
“It’s a long weekend, right?”
“No, not really.”
“OK well then at least everything is included, like drinks.”
“Also no.”
“The rooms must be amazing.”
“They’re fine.”
This is my favorite piece of “storytelling” on Disney property.
A small hot spring in the lobby turns into a stream in the courtyard, which turns into a series of waterfalls, which turns into the resort’s pool.
Disney “fakes” lots of things just fine: haunted houses, safaris, the country of Morocco.
But leaning into the idea that Tiana’s Foods is “employee owned” & now the critter “co-op” - y’all, Disney *fights* unions, right??
Collective ownership as a “theme” feels… cringey?
1,500 total guest rooms that will start at $147/night (plus tax) based on a 4-night stay. Each property features 750 double-queen guest rooms that sleep up to four guests.
We don’t talk enough about how awesome the Expedition Everest attraction sign is.
This ride -from concept to execution- has one of the tightest storylines of any attraction at any park.
(I actually can’t think of any that are tighter? And disco yeti doesn’t even look bad.)
And this is why it’s happening.
Y’all - this isn’t all abuse. Free FP was a light accessibility feature that did *enough* for a lot of families to not need DAS.
Am I cynical enough to say this a blatant $$ grab? No. But it’s an aftershock of the $$ grab that was paid Fastpass.
According to Disney officials, DAS usage in the parks has tripled over the past 5 years. I hope these changes will help reduce misuse of the system that has negatively impacted the experience for guests who truly need the service.
Joe Rohde is cooking on Insta:
“… the academic theme park is some invented straw-man used to craft yet another… revisitation of Foucault’s Panopticon… characterizing the audience as helpless puppets of some diabolical manipulation… (1/X)
Feel however you want about Splash, Tiana’s, Disney, all of it. But.
Working on a ride- from concept, to artwork, to engineering- and then *riding it for the 1st time* is unreal.
The monumental skill & effort that made this moment- I will never be jaded about this.
A MAJOR milestone for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World, as Walt Disney Imagineering project team members are test riding the attraction for the first time!

@clhubes
Imagine advocating for social justice and thinking that the way you perceive and treat families with young children is not part of that.
@blgtylr
Anaphylactic allergies and ableism are two internet rabbit holes that will catapult you directly into a carnival of horrors
People reserve their *ugliest* selves for these conversations, it’s like the purge
@Komaniecki_R
I feel like Plato’s Socrates has made an entire culture of (predominantly white) men believe that having complete dominance over the conversation is a sign of cleverness
He absolutely has to be accountable for this nonsense
@HannahPosted
I feel bad for my kid's teacher because my 8 yo tells me about almost *nothing* that they do in school EXCEPT when they watch a movie. I get a play by play of every show, every movie, every bit of educational programming.
@clhubes
When my kiddo was born, the birth was covered but not the NICU!!
“You’ll take care of me and the baby, right?”
“We will take care of you, yes.”
“And the baby?”
“Great question! It depends. Does the baby need medical care?”
“I mean, they might?”
“Ohhhhh. Well this *is* awkward.”
@clhubes
“My children know all about periods! It’s so natural, they’ve been watching me deal with mine for years! It’s so important from a young age for kids to…”
(And this is the part where my eyes glaze over and my dream for privacy while using the toilet dies just a little more)
@agbegin
@clhubes
Right?
It is simultaneously way more than I would allow my child to eat, & yet absolutely not nearly enough to forbid someone from ever watching my children again
Food norms aren’t intuitive. I got in trouble for letting (2 different) kids have too much yogurt & chicken nuggets
@ScottGustin
This copy stops just short of providing a bullet-point list of Tiana Foods’s 401k and Annual Leave policies. 😂 I am REALLY excited for this ride but the tone is really weird.
@TheLeisureProf
Also- listen, I help people *book* expensive vacations all the time. This is next level because of how short it was.
You can’t even squint at this one and call it a long weekend. If you’re going to Comic Con, your trip is longer than this.
My toxic trait is that I liked this when it was announced, I liked it when I saw the sight lines last summer, and I still like it now.
Unfollow, unsubscribe, I understand, do as you must.
NEW: Disney Vacation Club revealed a new look at the Island Tower at Disney's Polynesian Villas & Bungalows, set to open at Walt Disney World in Dec. 2024.
DVC members can book hotel stays starting June 4, followed by Annual Passholders on June 5 and all guests on June 6.
An incomplete list of venues I want to see a movie about more than Club 33:
Jungle Navigation Co. Skipper Canteen
Victoria & Albert’s
The Tip Top Club
Banana Cabana
@jviddy
Right?? They had all the space they needed. They could have made it an “All Suite” experience. No one wants to share a sleeping space and bathroom with their kids if they can help it.
@clhubes
You did the right thing bringing it here;
Before it was 60-70%, but now that you’ve put it out into the universe you’re going to look like an over-anxious parent instead, so the odds are down to <10%
@Chic_AvantGarde
@LissaJoStewart
If I could rent forever I would. But homeowners lobby to keep neighborhoods under zoned and there is very little high quality rental stock. This means that rents are astronomical compared to mortgages. We rented as long as we could, and we ran out of options.
@clhubes
Around 18 mos or so my son started smacking my boobs and going “rimmy-tim-tim-tim!”
Which means that now that he’s 3.5, he sometimes stares at me and mumbles “rimmy-tim-tim-tim” with an absentminded leer on his face and I feel like I need to go jump into a lake
@CatsandDawgs42
@LissaJoStewart
I know. I personally hate owning a home, but more broadly the way in which they’re related is that homeownership becomes the way that folks save for retirement in the US- so preserving property value ends up being the most important thing. Enter HOAs.
@clhubes
Has anyone said to you “love those sick day snuggles though”
Like, wtf? Who are those children? My child is either asleep or a bouncing ball of full throttle germ warfare.
There’s going to be a lot of “May the 4th be with you” going around tomorrow-
To avoid embarrassment, remember that the correct response since 2011 is now “and with your spirit”

@bywillborger
Like, oh yes, Boeing deciding to make a shit ton of money by moving their production and standards out-of-house is because of [checks notes] DEI?
@HannahPosted
This is really dangerous thinking, and could prevent someone from reporting.
CPS is adjacent to ACAB, but it’s not the same. They are not armed. There are extensive checks & balances in family court. It’s not perfect but it’s literally the ONLY mechanism to protect abused kids.
What I love most is that you discover the story as you walk- you could easily see the parts & never realize they’re connected to one another because it’s impossible to view it all at once from any one vantage point.
Your movement & attention are required to connect the dots.
When Country Bear Musical Jamboree opens this summer at Magic Kingdom, the show will include a "familiar tune fans may remember" and "reinterpreted Disney songs" in genres of country music -- including “Try Everything” from “Zootopia” and “A Whole New World” from “Aladdin.”
@clhubes
I’m gonna go *way* out on a limb and say that I miss kids opening up presents at birthday parties
I have given in to the fact that they just *aren’t* anymore, but I hate how transactional gift-giving has become...
@clhubes
When people say “your kids are going to grow up and be their own person” you think the hard part is going to be when their values don’t align with yours
But really it’s the aesthetic choices like these they make along the way
I launched my business as a Disney travel planner a year ago this week, and I’ve been blown away by the pace of the past year.
I have booked 108 trips and 64 families have traveled so far. I’ve had clients in the parks or on cruises for 39 of the past 52 weeks!
@dieworkwear
The level of IDGAF it takes to start skateboarding at 70 is borderline masochistic
- The number of relatives that you are telling to piss off
- The faith you have in your bones
- The hunger to do something *so badly* just because you are alive and you can
Inspirational.
@clhubes
Not all maps, but Welcome Home, Beaver has globetrotting and such phenomenally detailed illustrations- it’s about animal homes. It’s totally worth the cost and I think the level of detail would really appeal to a kid who loves maps!!

@LissaJoStewart
Totally agree with this. And when folks look at it that way, there’s more of an acceptance that you don’t need to interfere with how the people around you live.
@plebcy
Exactly. At that price point, they should have recognized that the accommodations themselves needed to be matched to the luxury market they were trying to attract.
And this is why it’s happening.
Y’all - this isn’t all abuse. Free FP was a light accessibility feature that did *enough* for a lot of families to not need DAS.

… Experience design would benefit… from the same level of critical appraisal aimed not at devaluation but improvement of the form and recognition of its best practices.”
For the love of all that is good and holy can someone get this man back at WDI please and thank you (3/3)
@AshleyLCarter1
@Tarantrinn
Exactly! It’s so funny to me that “we couldn’t explain it to the public” is being confused with “we explained it to the public and they opted out because they thought it was too expensive for what we were offering”
@Mickey_Central
That they do not!!
That having been said, Peter Dominick and his team deserve a lot of credit. The ambition and vision in the Wilderness Lodge, Animal Kingdom Lodge, and Grand Californian are definitely standouts- even among a lot of other great Disney resorts.
@TheRealAceBase
@CatsandDawgs42
@LissaJoStewart
and that’s great. I don’t like having my money and future tied up a piece of real estate, and I wish housing was more affordable. I personally don’t like taking care of a house, but I’m glad that most people do! It’s the way that neighborhood growth is impacted that bothers me.
@LeetMor
Sorry- I like that it’s part of her story, to be clear!! I just think they’re laying it on a bit thick.
They want to be a credible storyteller for Black audiences. I can’t speak to their success on that. But, IMHO, they are not a credible storyteller re: collective ownership.
@ScottGustin
At a park that desperately needs more things to do / entertainment that is easy to access (while folks wait for LL return times. etc.) I think Disney underestimates how much good will it builds with their guests to be watch random 7 year old kids fight Darth Vader
@DeeMagicGurl
I think Disney adults are committed. Disney is their happy place and they’ll say that. In public.
Adults who like Disney use it kind of like a side chick. She’s expensive, she takes your mind off things, you’re *way* too invested, you will not quit her.
@DisneyDan
Again, not all physical disabilities have to do with mobility.
It can be a problem with your body (and not your mind/behavior) and not be related to mobility.

Little things done with love and reverence for the creations that came before.
Disney design and tradition at its best. Thanks for sharing this!!!
@realgirl_fieri
I read some interview with a pediatrician once who was like, “the great thing about having more than one kid is that you learn to take less of the credit and less of the blame” and I think this could not be more true.
The most dangerous thing about Epic Universe is that UOR is extremely straightforward.
Turning into an exciting, well-priced weeklong destination just as Disney’s reputation for being *way* too complicated has reached its peak WILL pull families away at younger & younger ages.
I’ve said it before, they do different things and have different guest bases however Epic is probably Unis clearest grasp at Disney’s market. I think there is definitely an immediate impact however it’s overblown and will likely dissipate with time as Disney builds.
@VictoriaTheTech
You had me at “mom group” and “stay in it for the drama”
If you don’t know, you don’t know and I’m sorry for you, but that shit is where it’s at.
I’m fully invested.
Aerial overview of the village in How To Train Your Dragon - Isle of Berk. Arrow at a pair of wireframes for sculpted figures at the entrance of Hiccup's Winged Gliders roller coaster.
What if Disney did a nighttime parade at Animal Kingdom?
Part illuminated lanterns, twinkling lights, bhangra, festival vibes…
Would it even be possible with the walkways they have?
@disneyglimpses
I mean, there *is* a manageable level of fraud. Every time you put up walls to make it harder folks who need the accommodations will be excluded because they can’t navigate the barriers. But clearly we’ve reached breaking point.
@DisneyScoopGuy
“Let’s take a picture so we can remember it!” tends to work really well!! Then you can decide if you choose to go back through the pictures and buy one thing, or if you say “we’ll pass these on to Santa” or “we’ll remember these for your birthday” or whatever
@Chic_AvantGarde
@LissaJoStewart
Not everyone is interested in taking care of a house- it bores us out of our minds- but there are huge financial ramifications to it and that’s why people own homes when they have absolutely no interest in doing it or taking care of it.
@nateyagi
Another thing I love about this the more I think about it- the person most likely to notice this is the mom standing with the stroller waiting for everyone else to get off the ride, staring blankly at the sign for 20 minutes. 😂
@Barimelli
@LissaJoStewart
Yeah- and it’s the most pervasive “I got mine, tough luck kid” story there is- because the NIMBYism that this causes leads to low housing stock and neighborhoods that are zoned for single family housing only.
@tmip
@jwgrosz
@TouringPlans
@LenTesta
Oh my gosh, yes! And when they talk about the park reservation system being there to improve guest experience and reduce crowding. But people have eyes!! There are folks (like
@LenTesta
) whose job literally entails being able to show this is demonstrably untrue.
@RudysRings

The informational interview is a *massively* helpful and underrated tool. The worst case is no one replies to your email. The best case you get an inside POV on what’s at issue for the job & pathways towards the roles you want, & this WILL help you interview better
@klf3681
I do think the price point for 2 days was the fatal flaw- but for that price point, yeah, folks wanted to be blown away. I know there were a lot of folks who wanted to book who were SEARCHING for reasons to do so and just couldn’t justify it.
@selfstyledsiren
@blgtylr
Right? Could you imagine a kid literally goes into anaphylaxis on your flight, the plane gets rerouted, kid may or may not die, and you’re like “that handful of almonds tho”
@JorgeLBrito92
@magic_sketches
Which is awesome-but that is literally the only type of candidate that Disney has said is eligible for DAS at this point.
It’s not just fans griping. Those of us in the travel community have a very accurate, balanced viewpoint on it and the stories are not being exaggerated.
@graceyldn
@mcmansionhell
The idea that folks would drag themselves out of bed & go into Central London just to stand around with no interest in what they’re looking at is either speaking to humankind’s deepest existentialist malaise or shows that this person doesn’t know how easy it is to turn on the TV
@ScottGustin
@thisisinsider
Next do companies that (essentially) sell dining reservations and automate Genie+ reservations by violating MDE’s terms of service…
Please don’t project something on the mist.
I want to be optimistic but Disney really sees every curtain of mist as an opportunity to get another word in edgewise.
We’ve got mist before the 50-foot drop on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Magic Kingdom Park! As first mentioned by Charita Carter at D23 Expo in 2022, the mist is “gonna be different from anything that you have seen in an attraction.”
A huge thanks to
@caballero_ducky
for sharing!
@kaz_resistance
I know, but alcoholic drinks were not included. Even the dining plan includes them.
$5k was close to the price for only 2 people, too- the first 2 ppl in the room made up the bulk of the $$$. If 1 person could have done it for $1.25k I think feelings would’ve been different.
