Amazing work - such rigour and thoroughness is essential.
Re: data analytics, cabinet approved exit of 820,165 ineligible ppl from BISP lists on Dec 24, 2019. In Jan 2021 based on further data cleaning, another 29,921 were exited. The paperwork to access data used for cleaning lists was initiated in 2019. I have exact dates on file. 2/4

Thank you, Laura! As editor in chief of that White Paper, I congratulate you on an excellent summary. It was an exhilarating few weeks when we were still learning how to govern. As you say, we were ambitious, idealistic and a little naïve.
25 years ago New Labour were elected into power.
Ten weeks later they brought forward a HUGE White Paper, Excellence in Schools, covering all parts of school reform.
I've read back over it today & it's quite something!

You make a good case, Daisy. Finland is a wonderful country no doubt, but I am bored of hearing about its education system, which in its heyday was over-hyped, and is now no longer in its heyday.
Education coverage in the Times is increasingly detached from the evidence.
Constant criticism of everything to do with English schools, and praise for Finland.

Great to see this statement and the quote you pull out. Gladstone was a great Chancellor and PM. There isn’t a single sensible person in adulthood who didn’t learn and refine what they believed as time went by.
A wonderful statement from the Gladstone Library. I particularly like the WEG quote: "I was brought up to hate and fear liberty. I came to love it. That is the secret of my whole career". Gladstone travelled a long way in his 60 years as an MP.
