Trump didn’t win by “historic numbers,” he an incumbent. In 2020 he had 97% of the vote in Iowa, he now has only 51%. That’s a historic drop in support. DeSantis on the other hand received only 3% less of the vote than trump in 2016. Iowa hasn’t picked a winner in 2 decades.
