This week was crazy!
The biggest challenge was to keep my laptop battery alive while travelling.
What's your biggest hack to maintain productivity during travel?
Here's the intro part of a recent Documentary edit I did.
Tried to focus more on pacing and sound design on this one.
What do you guys think about this?

Throwback to a short form edit I did last year for
@fiago7
This was the first video I did for the channel.
Currently the video sits at, 5.9M views on YouTube and 2.1M views on TikTok.
Was easily my favorite editing style, and the one I had the most fun with.
Just got off a call with
@GuptaSayujya
.
Was a huge eye opener to realize what I was lacking in business.
He shared some wonderful tips about his journey and what got him there.
Can't believe he does these calls for free 💯 Insane amount of value.
Crazy to think this was less than a year ago!
This is me:
-Attending a lecture in college
-Editing a video
-Doing my part time job
All at the same time.
A year can change a lot, but it's so easy to always feel like you are not doing enough. 🫡
10th, Feb 2020
It's the first day of college.
Attended the induction ceremony with both my parents.
Fast forward to 15th, Dec 2023
It's the last day of college.
But both my parents are no longer here with me today.
I'm all in on helping Video Editors.
But if you are going DM me to ask about things that can be easily googled, I'm assuming that you don't respect the value of my time and also yours.
Oh so you're a Video Editor who doesn't wanna do trials?
Cool!
But be ready to fall behind the editor who's gonna do it!
Trial edits are a part of the game, unless your portfolio contains similar work to what the client is looking for!
Here's a recent short form edit I did for a client.
Would love to have some feedback on potential improvements.
As always, Likes ❤️ & Retweets ♻️ are appreciated.
We need to stop glorifying revenue on this side of Twitter.
There's far too many people who flex $10k/month.
Cool, but is it all profit?
It means absolutely nothing if your revenue is $10k/month but the profits are just $2k.
Margins matter.
I generated over 450k views on YouTube without showing my face.
I made videos using Cricket footage that kept the viewer engaged.
Here's 5 things I learned from 7 years of making content for YouTube.
@TeamYouTube
@MagnatesMedia
This is hilarious!
Definitely disappointing response from YouTube.
Everyone in the video editing space knows Magnates Media for their exceptional documentaries.
YouTube should be much more regulated with copyright strikes and claims than this!
@YouTubeCreators
@TeamYouTube
Heard this from Hormozi today:
"The money you are leaving on the table is the focus you are not giving for that one thing that matters"
Much better to grow one thing to a million dollars than 10 different things to $10k each.
This is why I love
@WeTransfer
!
Gives a more satisfying experience in seamlessly sending files to your clients than just uploading to a drive!
P.S: They got an animation mimicking the exact posture I had while sending this 👀💁🏻
Guys, What version of After Effects do you use?
I use the 2023 Version and I'm experiencing way too much lag with barely 20 layers on my timeline and 10 seconds into the comp.
My specs are decent as well, so I'm really confused what's going on here.
I was on the lookout for a Video Editor to manage my workload for the past week.
I had conversations with dozens of video editors.
Here are 4 of the most common reasons that made me decide to not work with them 🧵
While this ain't that big of a W, it means a lot to see results out of doing what you love!
Thanks to
@KPMYouTube
for reigniting my passion for making YouTube videos.
I used to start with $5 to $15 per edit without realizing the amount of time and effort I put into my work.
It was a couple of months back when it finally hit me that proper pricing comes with knowing the value of your work.
Now I charge $30 for even a shorts edit.
"So how much do you charge for a 30-minute call?"
I had no idea.
Never charged for consulting.
$200/hr sounds like a lot... I'll undershoot.
"$70 for 30 mins"
He said yes. Instantly.
"Can I tell you something, entrepreneur to entrepreneur?
You could've said $150 and sold
In the process of becoming a Video Editor, I've lost the time and creativity to edit my own content.
To sum up how bad this has been, I'm yet to unpack footage from a flight I took 7 months ago!
Video Editors, How do you find time to edit your own videos?
Just had the most wholesome client interaction ever.
Always stand by what you believe in.
Never let money overtake your moral conscience.
We're not just editing videos but impacting the world through content we edit.
The hardest thing about video editing for me is sound design.
The fact that it takes a great understanding and loads of practice makes it a skill that's hard to master.
Don't ignore sound design in your edits.
When,
Iman Gadzhi went viral ---> Copy his editing
Alex Hormozi went viral ---> Copy his captions
Magnates media went viral ---> Copy their editing
Did it work?
Exactly!
This is why the value you provide through content is more important than the editing alone.
What people think video editing is :
- Adding some clips in a timeline
- Adding text and background music.
What it actually is :
- Planning the edit
- Trimming clips
- Transitions
- Designing Motion Graphics
- Applying VFX & SFX.
- Color Grading
- Audio Engineering
- Exporting
"The Bold Font" has to be one of the fonts I hate using.
Most short form clients prefer this.
But, I hate it as it doesn't give a unique touch to your brand.
Almost every other creator out there tries to use this same font.
Why not develop your own branding?
If you've tried creating a seamless animation, you know the struggle to achieve silky smooth motion that glides like butter.

Premiere all the way. Yes it crashes at times.
But you won't regret the ability to integrate with After Effects to create anything and everything you want!
@itssamvisuals
$300/video definitely. Money is not everything. A client who's genuinely satisfied with what I provide would mean a lot than someone who's constantly cribbing unless if it's about something I can improve
Nobody talks about this!
As a video editor, your posture plays a huge role with productivity.
At least in my experience,
I've been able to work twice or thrice as long with proper posture.
If you are reading this while slouching, here's your reminder to fix things up!
Video Editors!
Let this be your reminder to take some time off the screen every 20 minutes!
Yes I know once you're in the zone, you just want to keep editing.
But if you don't take regular breaks, you'd end up with an eye strain.
We are halfway through 2023.
What's the most important thing you realized about YouTube so far?
I'll go first:
Shorts algo is confusing.
But having a high retention rate, and a high viewed percentage, makes your videos to be shown to more people in the Shorts feed.
@excelumeohana
Hey Excel,
Love the grind my friend. But let's be real. It's not sustainable.
I was doing the same, working from the moment I woke up till I went to bed. Used to work every single minute even when I while I was in attending lectures in college.
But this leaves you with a

A lot of editors asked me how I learnt After Effects.
The method I followed was little contrary to the way most do it. I'm still a learner to this day.
Here's my approach to learning After Effects:

Here's a good way to make decisions fast:
Don't allow your mind to contemplate for long.
Once you plan something, stop thinking and start working.
Eg: Gym at 8 AM - Do it!
Don't keep thinking of every reason as to why it's not a good day to workout!
Here is a review from one of my very first clients.
I worked on this channel since my early days in video editing largely due to my passion in Cricket and Sports in general.
Can't be thankful enough for the trust they had in me from the start.

I would rather be in a hoodie all day than drench in sweat.
Being born in a country which sees the sun 365 days a year, I never understood why people in the West want to move into warm countries.
Just imagine being soaked in sweat while you're trying to edit a video 😂
Here's one of my recent projects done for this amazing Football channel!

When you're growing out as a Video Editor, it feels okay to neglect your health, sleep and mental peace to get done with a project on time.
While hustling is a great thing to do, take time out of your day to get a good sleep, exercise and spend time with your loved ones.
I joined Twitter back in 2014.
Always thought it was a platform for News and never understood the use of it.
Then I found money twitter in 2021. Even after, I used to save many threads to Notion and never read them.
If this sounds like you, stop consuming and take action.
@decimablack
Was my first retainer client -
I got the deal through cold outreach.
I was really excited to work with the client as they had 120K+ subs. Made 2 videos and they loved it too!
Never got paid for a single video to this day.
I was listening to a lecture in college while going through some analytics.
I stopped in-between and thought
"What happened to me?"
I wasn't like this always.
A year back I was wasting my life on video games.
Something has flipped the switch in me.
If any of you guys are planning on upgrading, never buy an Asus gaming laptop if you need a reliable device.
Yeah the specs are great but these devices will let you down.
No complaints about the performance, but way too many bugs / hardware issues to deal with.
My laptop completely malfunctioned
It's not working when I plug the charger, it's not connecting with my monitor
From what I researched, it's a hardware issue
If anyone has any solutions please contact me through DMs or comments 🙏
I'm fucked
How should I explain this to my
