We have decided to terminate our support of
@mempool
().
We do not feel that our values are aligned, and we want to do our best to support developers that are more in line with our goals.
We wish them the best with their runes and stuff (or whatever).
We are coming to replace your other wallets.
Just thought we'd give everyone a heads up.
We are solving the liquidity problem for Lightning channels.
We are 100% self-custodial and eliminate huge fees to open a channel for inbound liquidity.
It's not magic, it's Manna.
@vinibarbosabr
@btctogether
@mempool
All incorrect. Ordinals are the main issue.
We're not boycotting anyone.
We're supporting projects that don't glorify ordinals by acting as a gallery for them.
The chain is open to anyone, including ordinal users.
We just choose not to give them validation.
@aeonBTC
@mempool
No. The strategy is outlined above - redirect support from projects that don't align with our values to projects that do.
As stated, we wish them the best.
Our business model:
Raise no money.
Take on no debt.
Build a great product that works.
Operate with almost zero overhead.
Outlive everyone else.
That's how we win.
All these Lightning startups will be dissolving one by one as they're running out of venture money while not being able to gain any meaningful user traction over the last 9 years.
Lightning is dead. Can somebody remind me what's the current plan to scale Bitcoin? 🤷♂️
Assuming this is referring to our post about discontinued support for future versions of our services with
@mempool
, let us take this opportunity to clear a few things up. 🧵
Our post:
To clarify some FUD going around:
The Mempool Open Source Project does not support “ord” daemon integration - only displays data contained in Bitcoin’s mempool and blockchain and from the Lightning network.
This means that if you lookup a transaction
Bitcoin payments will always have a custodial component until someone comes up with a completely unpredictable revolutionary new idea that changes the whole game.
So,
@benthecarman
with the
@TaprootWizards
says we have to change Bitcoin in order to scale.
We say that
@MannaBitcoin
will scale Lightning payments to everyone on the planet without changing a single thing.
Clearly, one of us is out of our minds.
If you want to trade ordinals, go ahead. But please don't expect us to be forced to play along. We simply want to ignore them, and that is why we are deviating from the popular
@mempool
instance.
"Every time we use fiat, in any form, in any of these systems, we're feeding the vicious cycle of violence, and oppression, and authoritarianism." -
@djvalerieblove
We couldn't agree more, Valerie.
That's why we are building Manna.
No fiat
No stablecoins
No altcoins
Just ₿
At Manna, a core principle is steering people as far away from "speculative projects" - to put it nicely - as possible.
We don't believe there are any "Runestones" on the chain, and putting a label on the data doesn't change that.
🔥 Hot off our $2.5M pre-seed raise, we’re offering an exclusive sneak peek at Ark Node—our flagship wallet daemon designed for fast, low-cost Bitcoin transactions over Lightning via an easy-to-use dashboard! 💸⚡️
has a tremendous history and has become the industry standard bitcoin explorer.
Our very specific disagreement on displaying labels for ordinals/inscriptions/runstones inspired us to look into alternative options without the labels.
The statement we made was blown way out of proportion, and some viewed it as some kind of attack on
@mempool
. It was literally just an announcement to any of our early users and potential users that the previous expectation to use this specific instance has changed direction.
As stated in our original post, and throughout replies to many comments, we sincerely wish
@mempool
the best (and we mean it).
We believe Bitcoin really is for everyone - even for ordinals enjoyers. We simply just don't agree on a few small things.
So sad to see. We were really looking forward to going head-to-head with these awesome and smart bitcoiners.
If you are looking for a new non-custodial Lightning/Bitcoin wallet, give us a follow.
Coming soon. ⚡️
Important update: Mutiny Wallet will be winding down operations by the end of the year.
We're exploring new directions as a company. For full details on the shutdown and our future plans, please read our latest blog post:
Louder! For the kids in the back that still think they need to save a little bit of fiat for spending, instead of just realizing it's okay to put it all into ₿ and sell it as needed.
Furthermore, we strongly believe that all transitions are welcome on the chain, so long as they comply with the rules; and if they don't, they will be rejected by miners anyway.
Bitcoin is a tool for freedom and we know that people will use it in different ways.
There are other instances with nearly all of the same features but without the distractions. These other instances wouldn't be nearly as good without the developments of
@mempool
. And for that, we are grateful.
In case it needs to be said again... we wish them the best. 🧡
@FrolickingFord
@AdamSimecka
Manna is self custodial. It holds no funds. It routes no payments. It is open source.
Anyone can run our code with or without permission from us, the government, or anyone.
@BikesandBitcoin
@peterktodd
@mempool
"What is there" - we don't agree here. The other block explorers clearly show all of the on-chain data just fine. They just don't glorify ordinals.
@SlyGoomba
We are keeping a few things close to the chest until we launch. But for the most part, yes.
Users will have full custody from the time they download the app, & setup and account.
We will never custody funds or route payments.
Anything specific you'd like to know?
@SlyGoomba
You will not. And we are beyond excited to share with everyone exactly how that will work.
You will be able to start with very small fees. A new user will be able to receive and send sats without that massive channel open fee initially.
That will be announced at a later date.
@udiWertheimer
@mempool
Although, it wasn't explicit, it was a message about "supporting [them in our code and future versions]" - not necessarily financing that org.
But it's a fair point to make.
As stated many times over, we wish them the best, and we mean it. 🧡
@BikesandBitcoin
@peterktodd
@mempool
Accurately?
How is choosing to not apply a (very) specific set of arbitrary parameters to certain code, not natively recognized on the chain, inaccurate?
Again, we aren't telling anyone to filter, censor, or leave anything out.
Ordinal labels are supplemental, not native.
@rodpalmerhodl
@cguida6
@mempool
Hold up. How are we supporting shitcoins? We are literally making an announcement that we aren't working with anymore because they are using "shitcoins".
Our business model:
Raise no money.
Take on no debt.
Build a great product that works.
Operate with almost zero overhead.
Outlive everyone else.
That's how we win.
