It seems that the so-called “oil curse” is upon us. How come a shooting war breaks out all of a sudden after the discovery of oil in Salaxley and Maroodijeex? I suspect the neighbouring states. Let us see if they “kindly volunteer”peace keeping troops, as they did in South Sudan.

If the only tool of analysis you know is clanism, every public official’s action that you do not like is clanism. A public official can be motivated by number of things—i.e., personal experience, interest, innate character, etc. My advice: learn more tools of analysis than one.

Thank you @nasteexobilan . The Somali women have agency. They do not need an NGO to prod them to fear. They can determine what to fear, when to fear and where to fear. Besides, the people of “Caabud Waaq” take special pride in protecting their daughters and sisters.

Two accepted notions of nation: Statist and Ethnicist. Statist holds those who share a common state are a nation—simply because they have a reason to be together. Ethnicist says those who share certain objective characteristics (race, religion, language, etc) constitute a nation.

Upon Independence, we could have asked ourselves whether we wanted to take the African path of development or strike out our own path to progress. Unfortunately, we did not bother with the question, and took the default path that all Africa took. The result?Unmitigated misery!

We were harangued for longest by some, who argued Ethiopia of today: >Is not autocratic as in past; >Wants only friendly regime in Mog.; >Chooses development over conflict; >Is led by an Oromo, who suffered under regimes of the highlanders. How of these points hold true today?

@ahmednasirlaw I bet you wouldn’t have been so contemptuous of your race (Somali) in the 70s & 80s. A well known aphorism holds, “when a boat sinks, the rats jump off first.” The Jews had some who spoke like you of their race before the Jewish State. They aptly called them “self-hating Jews.”

No state, region or any portion of Somalia territory is sovereign. The sovereignty of Somalia lies with the FGS. Ethio. Airlines has no choice but to comply with the directive of SCAA—a federal entity. Every time Somalia stands up, Ethio. & its regional allies have to stand down!

Somalia’s political parties are neither! None of them has the requisite criterion of a political party—political base (interest) or resources. They are formed around their creator, whose sole interest they serve. They are known as “taxi cab” or “back pocket” parties. Useless, eh?

Nations, like living organisms, act purposefully to ensure their survival. Somalia lost this agency due to cultural hubris. Our nation is always saved by the “march of history,” not by our own actions. Isn’t it time to lose the hubris and exercise our agency to save ourselves?

HOA states talk about integration. At what level do we integrate—economic or political? The EU is an economic one. Member economies are complementary—“bread and butter. HOA states’ economies are similar—primary. Their’s is competitive. Economic integration is contrary to reason.

We Somalis like the news just for its own sake. We rarely reflect on its implications for us as a nation. Take the CoHA btw GoE & GoT. Since its signing, we were discussing it solely in relation to the parties involved. I think it is high time to discuss what it portends for us.

The state is a moral agent. If you think we are morally lax, it is because we have a week state. Who is here to define and/or defend what is moral? No one listens to a weak state. The debate on the appointment of some ministers could have been settled if we had a strong state.
