Had a good discussion with @MvembaDizolele, Director and Senior Fellow at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), on the Into Africa Podcast. Analyzed the challenges facing Somalia’s Third Republic and assessed how government leaders have managed its fragile political landscape since 2022. We discussed Somalia’s strategic importance, given its location and the global implications of its complex challenges, as well as the significance of Washington’s humanitarian and security assistance. I also argued that the winner-takes-all approach, arbitrary changes to the political settlement, restrictions on political space, and disregard for institutions and due process could undermine the Third Republic’s stability.
