Rural Caucus is collecting donations to help our rural young dems who have been without power for 2 days now. Help make sure our communities have access to water, gas, food and shelter!
BREAKING: A terminally-ill Kansas man’s hospital room was raided by cops because he used a THC vape and paste to ease the symptoms of the cancer that will kill him within weeks.
He is set to appear in court Jan 2nd.
This is inhumane.
16-year-old, non-binary student Nex Benedict was beaten to death by their classmates at Owasso High School in Oklahoma.
Girls did this.
Highschool girls murdered someone in the middle of the school day in a bathroom.
Absolutely sick, demented behaviour.
While I’m so happy this was resolved, it should have never happened in the first place. We cannot force terminally ill patients to choose between pain management and the law. This entire situation was completely unacceptable.
Kinda shocked at the amount of “blue crew” that clearly has 0 empathy for this man. He is dying. Sure, the nurses have the obligation to keep others safe, but involving the police?? Some of y’all need to check your privilege.
Supreme Court Justices and ALL elected public officials should be willing to release their tax returns.
We deserve transparency.
Accountability is the cornerstone of democracy.
No public educator in the United States should have to shell out hundreds of dollars of their own money for school supplies. Have y’all ever seen bare walls in a k-12 classroom? No? Thank your teacher. Not the government.
The biggest lie ableism ever told you is that disabled people are getting rich off SSDI…in reality, we’re all stuck in cyclical poverty with no help coming.
Welcome to the jungle.
Update: “2 officers responded to the call. After the officers contacted the patient, they collected [vape] from hospital staff & issued a summons. Officers were there for ~8 minutes, then felt “uncomfortable” about the situation & contacted a supervisor.”
I just read some nonsense that “abortion after birth is evil”….Y’all. Think about this for a moment…there is no such thing as a “post-partum abortion”. It’s literally not possible?
Where do y’all hear this stuff?
Hi! I’m Madeline. I’m 24, blind and am graduating in May with my masters in Social Science! I also received a BS in psychology in 2020, and plan on getting a PhD!
#DEHEMRollCall
For this year's Miss Universe, Miss Ukraine Universe 2022, Victoria Apanasenko, slayed the national costume portion of the competition with her "Warrior of Light" costume.
I teared up a little. She looks amazing.

I’m Madeline Ryan Smith & I’m currently the only Gen Z candidate running for state house in Georgia.
My opponent has been in office longer than I’ve been alive; help me unseat him by spreading the word, donating, or volunteering!
To my Dems on Twitter: if y’all hate MAGA so much, why are y’all following people like MTG and Walker? I’m genuinely confused. I don’t want extremists to have my attention and I sure don’t want to see anything she has to say? Can someone explain?
@juliazukowski
@MercyhurstU
This is completely unacceptable.
@MercyhurstU
where is your public statement accross your social media? Is this student being held accountable? As an athlete, he represents your university. Is this really what you want to be known for?
@TheTruthIsBlue
100%…my opponent in 2022 was a GOP pharmacist who voted pro-choice but claimed to be pro-life …(he makes $$$ from abortions.) It’s all about money. Never about the people.
@DavidBegnaud
The only correct response to this would have been “are you okay?” and then “Is there something I can do to help you?” Or even just minding your own business. Non-disabled folk; do better.
The Republican Party is so concerned with faking diversity that they continuously put up disgraceful candidates like Hershel Walker, Madison Cawthorn, and George Santos.
We need LESS fraud in government and MORE diversity, but it isn’t going to come from the GOP.
GA Republican Rep. Danny Rampey, who won his unopposed seat in November, stole prescription narcotics from the retirement complex he manages and has decided to step down instead of facing a possible suspension as soon as he is sworn into office
I’m Madeline Ryan Smith and I am running in GA to be the first and youngest female democrat elected to represent House District 158! Help me bring new life to rural Georgia by sharing, donating, and voting BLUE this November!
It’s odd to me that bigots complain so loudly about having Pride “shoved down their throats” like they haven’t been spending their entire life shoving their religion down everyone else’s🧐
Just a reminder: The GA GOP blocked Medicaid expansion to support Kemp’s failed "Pathways to Coverage" health program that has enrolled less than 3,500 Georgians while costing taxpayers $26M.
90% of which has gone to admin fees instead of health care for Georgians who need it.
Let me be clear; people with disabilities deserve to be paid the same as their non-disabled coworkers. The notion that disabled people don’t deserve or don’t want equal pay is ableist, inaccurate, and damaging to our community.
#DisabilityTwitter
My opponent has been in office since 1985 and has nothing to show for it except a lack of healthcare and a housing crisis. We’re ready for change; help me bring it to rural Georgia.
The disabled community makes up 25% of the population. We’re America’s largest minority group. Our voices are loud. This year, we will be heard.
#CripTheVote
It’s official! We’re on the ballot for GA House District 158 to fight for accessible & affordable healthcare, housing and education.
We deserve representation that isn’t bought by big Pharma or constantly pushing corporate interests.
It’s time for new life in rural Georgia.
I need people to understand that the Vice President has pretty much nothing to do with law passage except for when the senate has a tie.
We haven’t “been under Kamala for 3 years”…
if you think so, you need to brush up on basic civics.
@DisabledEliza
My fave “blind leading the blind” I’ve actually done this exact thing and it’s really easy. Blind individuals are amazing navigators. We have to be since you know, no one accommodates the disabled.
@amiethesquirrel
@nhgrown
I Agree - I spent most of my race talking to republicans in my district and was able to secure 30% of the vote as a democrat. I was a first-time 25 year old, fresh out of school. If I can do that, imagine what the rest of us could do!
Gen Z, we cannot let extremists dictate our futures.
I want my kids to be able to have a real education in a public school that’s safe.
I want my kids to breathe clean air and drink clean water.
I want my sons to be able to be (and love) whoever they choose.
I want my daughters
My name is Madeline and I’m running to be the first woman, millennial, democrat, and disabled individual to represent Georgia House District 158. Help me make history this November by sharing, donating and voting BLUE!
Guns are so accessible and so misused that we now have 1st graders shooting their teachers. Our elected officials clearly learn absolutely nothing from their failures, and the tragedies the American people are forced to pay for with their lives.
In Georgia, over half our counties have no access to an OBGYN. The closest place I could access abortion care is over an hour away.
Imagine not only being pregnant, but needing emergency care and not having access to it.
A hospital in Idaho no longer offers obstetrics or labor and delivery care, forcing patients to drive at least an hour for care.
Imagine being pregnant and the closest OB-GYN is over an hour away. 😐
This is much more common than we realize.
🧵
For everyone comparing 2016 and 2024 elections because the common denominator is a female candidate, let me remind you;
The oldest of Gen Z was 19 in 2016.
We’re turning 27 this year.
Don’t forget that.
@ask_aubry
I think it’s important to note that a parents disability has nothing to do with their parenting capabilities. Deaf/HOH individuals can be amazing parents or not; just like any other parent. Disability does not automatically make you incapable of being a parent.
@SandraByer1
Rural districts historically get no support from their own state party, let alone the DNC. We’ve been left to figure it out by ourselves. We need to start demanding more from our state parties and their leadership!
Three years ago today, I watched an insurrection against the United States of America unfold on live television.
This year, I will be voting for the people that support our democracy; not a false idol with no regard for humanity.
If you feel moved to do so, please consider directly helping our

As someone who took this class, it is embarrassing to see Americans disregard science and fact in such a blatant way.
This is not about “wokeism”. Right-wing Extremists are attempting to keep our kids ignorant so they’re easier to control.
This board confused Autism Awareness with Pride because that’s how out of touch they are with both the disabled and LGBTQ communities.
Right wing ideology is not about “family values”; it’s about hating anything that makes you uncomfortable.
Hey GA, when you pay your power bill, remember GA Power rates increased 12% because of “high cost of fuel” yet made billions in profit last year.
Before you ask, these changes were approved unanimously by our Public Service Commission, consisting entirely of Republicans.
Today I turn 26, along with the oldest of our Gen Z population. I’m proud to say that I am the first of my generation to run in GAHD 158, and am honored to be among the first of Gen Z to run for office in Georgia.
We need young people at the table.
I don’t know about y’all, but I’d rather not live in a country where children are left behind, women are second-class citizens, and disabled people are ignored and isolated.
Not for you either? Vote!
I am adopted and pro-choice. Unless you’re also an adoptee, most people can’t understand this. It’s not about my life, it’s about the millions of women who are going to die because they don’t have access to healthcare. Bans on abortion go deeper than the stereotypes.
I don’t understand how some women are anti-abortion. Knowing the risks & the aftermath, how can some of us have this mindset?
It is unimaginable to me that some women would rather see others die than receive an abortion. It’s even worse when the bible is used as justification.
“I’m not sure if 12 is old enough to learn about slavery” …. If 12 year olds were old enough to be enslaved, your 12 year old is old enough to learn about it.
A thread 🧵This is the entire segment from The Five with no edits. It includes
@greggutfeld
disgusting comment about the Holocaust. This is the full context. He can interpret a book however he wants. We can interpret his statement however we want. That’s freedom of speech 1/3
So at 26, we *expect* people at this age to;
- find their own healthcare and hopefully be able to afford it
- have a full time job that pays more than $30K a year
- be married
- have kids
- own a home
- be done paying back student loans
Quick question; How?
@BrianKempGA
Here in Georgia, while trying to pass a voucher bill, we have also;
- denied funding for school meals
- attempted to gut library funding
- refused to raise teacher wages
- allowed 150,000 kids to lose Medicaid
Actions speak louder than words.
🚨Gen Z! A group of 16 youth activists (the youngest is FIVE!) is suing the state of Montana for putting the fossil fuel industry over their climate future.
Trial starts Monday!
I think we can all agree that sometimes, we need to make sacrifices for the greater good. I think AR-15s should be something we’re willing to sacrifice for the safety of children.
@GovKemp
SB 140 does nothing to “protect” children. Transgender teens & young adults are people. People with their own individual stories, wants, needs, and identities. You took that from them today, all for the sake of religious ideology and your “fight” against “the woke left”. Hateful.
My name is Madeline Ryan Smith and I’m running in GAHAD 158 to expand Medicaid, increase wages, expand job-opportunities and protect public education. Help support our state by volunteering, spreading the word and donating!
89 Counties out of 159 in Georgia do not have enough medical providers for their population.
Read that again, and then check your voter registration.

In the weeks ahead we’ll share expert testimony from our Medicaid Expansion hearing 1/10.
Dr. Karen Kinsell is the last doctor in Clay County, GA.
She shares her perspective as a solo provider in one of the poorest and sickest counties in the state.
Democrats need to run in every race, at every level. Part of the reason we see such heavy GOP majorities is because we allow Republicans to run without opposition.
Even if Democrats don’t win, I’d rather make a republican work for it rather than just handing them a win.
I’ll keep saying this until it changes; disabled people in America have never had equal access to employment, education or healthcare.
If you think we do, you are wrong. I’m tired of debating ignorance.
@di_sassi
In the United States, it’s completely necessary. It was mainly able-bodied privilege I was referring too. Considering disabled people in America have virtually 0 rights, I’m going to keep calling out ableism when I see it.
Regardless of the details, a child died as a direct result of hate and bigotry. If you can’t see that, you’re not paying attention.
If America was an accepting and inclusive place, Nex would still be alive. This ain’t on one person - it’s on all of us. We all need to do better.
16-year-old, non-binary student Nex Benedict was beaten to death by their classmates at Owasso High School in Oklahoma.
Girls did this.
Highschool girls murdered someone in the middle of the school day in a bathroom.
Absolutely sick, demented behaviour.
Was just on campus getting out the vote for Kamala and ran into a freshman student who is a Republican, but said he can’t morally bring himself to vote for Trump.
We talked for 30 minutes about life and politics. He committed to voting for Harris.
This is how we win.
Judy Heumann was the voice we all looked to, all listened to, and all learned from. America would not be the same for the Disabled Community without her fight and all she has accomplished.

I find it odd that people are cool with common sense laws around texting and driving, wearing seatbelts etc., but don’t think a firearm should have any sort of rules or regulations.
Why don’t disabled people vote, you ask?
When you pass legislation that creates accessibility barriers, you stop disabled people from voting. It’s literally that simple.
The better question is; Why are Republicans so ableist?
A vote for any Republican in the GA GOP is a vote to enable and encourage tragedy like this.
There’s no reasoning with them; they don’t care and nothing we say will change that. We need to vote them out.
New: At least two women in Georgia died after they couldn't access legal abortions and timely medical care in their state, ProPublica has found. This is one of their stories.
FACT: Georgia’s minimum wage is $5.15/hour, but the $7.25 minimum wage employees must make is because of federal law.
Remember that the next time Kemp tells you Georgia is the
#1
state for business.
