It's official! I'm on the ballot for the May primary. With your support, I will continue my service as the representative for House District 90!
There are 180 legislators in the Georgia House of Representatives. Only a handful have young children. And only two are women.

Don't tell me energy is low around voting.
Just received a report out of Kansas that a voter was told she couldn't vote while wearing her partisan t-shirt.
So she took it off and voted in her bra.
I’m deeply concerned about the raid directed by the Georgia Attorney General’s office today in Edgewood, a dense and thriving residential neighborhood in Atlanta.
I’m trying to get more information.
I don’t know the specifics of the charges yet, but at this moment, SWAT and helicopters seem grossly excessive for arresting individuals accused of money laundering and “charity fraud.”
What I do know is weaponizing the powers of the state for political gain is abuse of power.
🧵The GBI, along w/ the Atlanta Police Department, have arrested three people on charges stemming from the ongoing investigation of individuals responsible for numerous criminal acts at the future site of the Atlanta Public Safety Training Center & other metro Atlanta locations.

Well, today was a pretty neat day.
Not only did I have a tweet go viral for the first time, I also got elected to serve in the Georgia Legislature.
It’s an honor and privilege to sit in the seat formerly held by my forever leaders, Bee Nguyen and Stacey Abrams.
Peaceful protest is as American as apple pie. Using heavy handed tactics to suppress peaceful protest is shameful.
Gov. Kemp’s statement is divisive, pitting police against protestors, and using a broad brush to paint all protestors as extremists.
Polls are open 7am to 7pm.
If you are over 75 or disabled, you can skip the line between 9:30am and 4:30pm today.
Let’s get this man elected, Georgia. 💪
Georgia Voters 👀
On Election Day, voters who are elderly or disabled have the right to go to the front of the line between the hours of 9:30 am and 4:30 pm.
During Early Vote, they have the right to go to the front of the line all day long.

Meanwhile, in Georgia, the first vice chair of the Georgia GOP must pay $5000 for voting illegally *nine times* while under felony probation.
This seems balanced. Sure.
Breaking news: Crystal Mason, the Texas woman who was sentenced to five years in prison for trying to submit a provisional ballot in 2016 that was rejected, has been acquitted on appeal. Story TK. Background:

More black voters over the age of 65 have already voted in Georgia (201,889) than voted in total in the 2016 presidential election (193,993). There are still 9 days of voting remaining.

Let me tell you about the shameful performance I saw by Ga House Republicans this morning when SB463 was discussed in committee. SB463 revises the GA election code, and passed on a party line vote.

Georgians! 🍑 Is your county board of elections stepping up and sending registered voters an absentee ballot application for November? The Secretary of State isn't doing it, but your county can.

I’m thrilled to announce my candidacy for Georgia House District 90.

Great piece about Coffee County.
Voter suppression takes many different forms. Bringing criminal charges against someone who is lawfully assisting eligible voters has all kind of chilling ripple effects, especially in a small community.

When GA got its new voting machines in 2020 and we were experiencing regular technical problems, the SOS found it infeasible to put a tech specialist at every precinct.
But police at every precinct is ok? Got it.
Georgia’s top election official just called for a significant ramp-up in security at the state’s polling places in a key election year -- and wants to add more GBI agents to investigate election-related cases.

Most Georgians register to vote when they get or renew their driver license. During that process we sign a digital pad with a digital pen, resulting in scrawl that may or may not resemble our handwritten signature. 3/
The City of Atlanta certainly has a right, and arguably the legal obligation, to verify that referendum advocates get the legally required number of signatures to put their issue on the ballot. Is signature match the best way to do so? Hard no. 8/
“We have seen countless examples of voters mistakenly slated for removal from the rolls even though they are eligible to vote at their address,” Draper said. “The [SOS] should be less eager to remove voters from the rolls and more helpful in getting eligible voters registered.”
Nearly 44,000 Georgia voters who lost their registrations in the nation's largest purge four years ago re-registered and cast a ballot in November’s election, the AJC found.

This incident violates the personal security and well-being of our community members, and I’m calling on local law enforcement to investigate swiftly and hold those responsible to account.
Alternatives that actually provide evidence of eligibility are:
1. Verify the printed name was a registered voter and Atlanta resident in 2021.
2. Verify the individual provided all the requested information as legally required.
3. Verify entries are not duplicates.

As a state legislator, I can’t help but view this incident and our legislative policy choices as related.
During the 2023 legislative session, the Georgia General Assembly failed to pass proposed legislation to curb rising rates of antisemitism.
Perhaps the cruelest twist to all of this was that in order to cure their ballot (ie, make it count), they had to submit an affidavit that they had to sign(!!) and that could also be tossed out on signature match grounds. 7/
My statement in response to new information revealed in the autopsy results released by DeKalb County related to the death of Manuel Esteban Paez Terán.
My new bipartisan bill, HB 559, takes the wait time guessing game out of voting for parents of young children. If passed, it would allow voters accompanied by kids 5 or under to go to the front of the voting line– a support voters who are elderly and/or disabled currently enjoy.
There is a direct line between these policy decisions and creating an environment that emboldens hate groups and normalizes discriminatory rhetoric. It’s not enough for leaders to say they don’t tolerate hate; our policy agenda must do the same.
