Widowed mother of three, seeking answers & providing voice for my husband after his avoidable death from 2x HAIs at the QEUH while in protective isolation.
The story of the
@scotgov
civil servant who died from 2x HAIs at
#QEUH
, NHS GGC. All those investigating r desperate to disprove any link between As death & known issues at the hosp. Make your own decision 👇
While 🏴saw today what
@thesnp
Government did to cover up during the COVID pandemic, let us not forget this is not the first time. Nicola Sturgeon has led other cover ups, prioritising reputation over lives
#QUEH
, Glasgow.
I’m so glad Liz Lloyd was able to ‘not think of sick people’.
On this day
@slorance
, her colleague, was a sitting duck in
#QEUH
- a hospital with substandard ventilation and water that she knew would not & could not protect him.
Yesterday was one of the toughest days of our lives as
@slorance
agreed to be put on mechanical ventilation.
Having spent time with him, I have no doubt this is the right choice and will give him the rest he needs.
There’s so much ‘news’ following the Letby verdict, I thought a summary may be useful.
1. NHS managers are primarily focused on reputation
2. NHS managers are the largest risk to patients (mainly by covering up patient safety issues)
3. Whistleblowers are ignored & destroyed
Today marks 16 years since I married
@slorance
. For 33 months I have fought for answers about his death, I still have none.
@NHSGGC
&
@scotgov
have together delayed, denied, blocked & bullied. COPFS is a story I am not allowed to disclose.
I won’t give up, ever.
A reminder that the
@scotgov
lead for quality and safety of NHS services, Jason Leitch, sought to blame my family for
@slorance
HAI COVID at
#QEUH
rather than identifying how it happened.
Just a little update on
@slorance
as I know his social media silence causes concern. Unfortunately on this occasion any such worries are warranted-due to COVID complications things are not so good right now and his fight has stepped up a notch...
FM says we don’t appreciate the impact on her husband and family. My husband and family payed, and continue to pay, the ultimate price for her leadership.
Do it for the healthcare staff that paid the ultimate price looking after others, do it for the kids that have lost a parent or close relative,do it to keep your loved ones safe. Follow the rules, STAY AT HOME this
#Hogmanay
& you can look families like mine in the eyes in 2021
Dear
@NicolaSturgeon
Thank you for keeping me updated… not 1 member of
@scotgov
had the decency to inform me
@HIS_online
would publish today.
This review was triggered by
@slorance
(husband, father, son, brother & friend) death. Today, again, you added to our trauma.
As the
@covidinquiryuk
starts in Scotland
@slorance
has no voice and is not represented.
His death will not feature
His work has been chosen by
@scotgov
In death Andrew will not be heard. This is Scotland in 2024.
Listen to this bereaved family
@JohnSwinney
, no Inquiry staff should be employed or have an employment history with
@scotgov
.
Scottish Inquiries have a history of not finding fault with SG, there are no ifs that SG failed people on COVID, the question is how they failed.
3 years (+1 day) since I last spoke to my husband - he was scared, he said he had no choice.
3 years ago I placed all my trust in the
#QEUH
and
@NHSGGC
How wrong I was 💔
Could
@scotparl
confirm urgently whether SPCB report was indeed handed to Michael matheson on 7 February as reported today by the Daily Mail?
Truth matters
A born member of
@thesnp
says the party no longer puts the interests of Scotland first
and
A First Minister who doesn’t turn up for stage 3 patient safety legislation.
What a night for 🏴
If the First Minister had any leadership skills, Leitch’s termination of contract with immediate effect would be announced this afternoon in
@ScotParl
👇
A truly gobsmacking couple of hours of evidence from Jason Leitch.
- Denied his pre-bed ritual of deleting WhatsApps
- Helped Humza Yousaf circumvent mask-wearing rules
- Refused to engage with questions about whether "discussions" between officials should have been kept
If there was an active
@scotgov
SM policy to delete comms firstly, produce it.
Secondly who is going to be held to a/c for a policy that flies in the face of FOI law?
Immediate action requ.
The First Minister’s also been speaking about the row surrounding ministers and officials deleting WhatsApp messages during the pandemic
He says he’s kept his messages and fully intends to hand them to the UK Covid inquiry
Got a response from
@NHSGGC
re the issues raised at FmQs today by
@AnasSarwar
about
@LouiseSlorance
. Health board says the "social listening" was "erroneous".
“The atmosphere felt hostile. There was a real sense of, ‘Who do you think you are, why are you asking us these questions?’”
This is how I, as the wife of a deceased patient, have felt also.
@humzayousaf
this must end today 👇
An appalling first outing from the new cab sec for health -clearly out of his depth in the complex & vital area of health but… political messages clear.
Update on
@slorance
: he has begun his induction in his new job duties include cooking, cleaning and ironing. TBH performance is disappointing - he’s already booked 6 weeks leave & keeps disappearing for bike rides 🙄
@jasonleitch
@NicolaSturgeon
do you want him back?
Press conference after Prof Leitch’s evidence to UK Covid Inquiry by Scottish Covid Bereaved group and their lawyer
@AamerAnwar
Margaret Waterton “there is nothing flippant about the death of my mother and my husband from Covid”
@lbc
@lbcnews
“The modus operandi is secrecy and concealment.”
“Institutional paranoia of secrecy.”
“Ordered to delete an important message.”
Please give me one reason why we should trust
@jasonleitch
@scotgov
for our public inquiry based on this whistleblowers revelations…!
Because we
@DalgetySusan
@DalgetySusan
I bought a new phone a few months after Andrew died. Like you, within seconds all content was restored even Jason Leitch’s messages!
It feels like COVID, the elderly & vulnerable were the price we had to pay.
QEUH - lives of haemo-oncology patients is the price paid for our superhospital.
All the while huge sums of public money are used to cover up the cost in human lives 👇
NEW: Humza Yousaf has made an “unreserved apology” to Covid bereaved families amid anger over the mass deletion of SNP ministers’ and officials’ WhatsApps wanted by the UK pandemic inquiry
Only thing
@bbcnickrobinson
forgot to mention is the blood on Swinney’s hands from avoidable patient deaths and harm , including
@slorance
, from the SNP prioritising party reputation above patient safety
#QEUHinfectionscandal
This week I found out
@covidinquiryuk
had published a statement in full no redactions about
@slorance
laptop from
@scotgov
. Published on 28 March - I was never told, I am referenced 4x & given no right of response.
💥A spokesman for NHSGGC refused to confirm if Andrew Slorance’s name was still on their spying list.💥
👉Date of death: 5 December 2020
👉Location: QEUH, NHS GGC
👉HAIs: COVID, Aspergillus
👉Stem cell transplant for MCL
👉Fit and well on admission
@KieranPAndrews
There’s other ways of getting these messages, depending on the recipient group. Time for the UK COVID Inquiry to use the known routes available to them.
He is fighting as much as he can but this is a really tough battle.
While I am here I want to say thank you to the many of Andrew’s friends who have sent gifts to myself and the kids. We have not met a lot of you, but you have bought a smile to our faces in these difficult times
EXC: A lawyer working for the Scottish government was ordered to delete an important message about legal approval for Edinburgh’s new Sick Kids hospital in case it became subject of FOI
A few months after he blew the whistle, his contact was terminated
“Politics, frankly, can be quite brutal”
Speaking with
@HumzaYousaf
following the resignation of Elena Whitham as Drugs Minister due to post-traumatic stress
The First Minister talks about the impact of intrusion into private lives and public character assassination
Quietly put out late on a Friday. An explanation is urgently required from
@ScotHospInquiry
and
@HumzaYousaf
.
I can’t help but see similarities to other events…
Misfeasance in public office occurs when a public officer knowingly misuses or abuses their power or authority and willingly acts to cause harm to an individual or group.
I hope
@JohnSwinney
you have memorised this part of your speech, every second is true of the
#QEUHinfectionscandal
that took your friend & colleague
@slorance
, among others.
Our families also deserve truth & accountability.
The cost of Scotlands cover up culture is human life, it has to be stopped 🛑.
Read why I turned to the media and what happened next in The whistleblower 👇
Today marks 15 years since I married
@slorance
. For 21 months I have fought for answers about his death, I have received none.
@NHSGGC
and
@scotgov
have together delayed, denied and blocked these answers.
Jason Leitch joins Scottish private healthcare company, Elanic Medical based in Glasgow. He’ll provide the firm with "robust" governance support, helping it to ensure patient safety and quality …🤔
Mind and delete your Whatapps‼️
Where the
#QEUH
is, there is cover up on a grand scale with enablers across our public bodies.
The acceptable cost for the reputation of this building is truly unbelievable… 💔👇
On Tuesday night I received a subject access request response from
@scotgov
. It’s appears this battle for truth for
@slorance
is 1 widow vs xx no of civil servants, SPADs &
@ScotGovFM
, not to mention
@NHSGGC
.
Truth telling takes 1 person.
And in tonight’s update from
@scotgov
:
“We have not found new material on the laptop that is relevant to the work of the Inquiries. We have updated the UKI of this.”
Cld SG explain what his substantial overtime bill was for then… & why
@covidinquiryuk
think he was a key player?
How awful, yet unsurprising too. ScotGov has all angles covered. They’ve even been allowed to decide for themselves what’s relevant evidence and what isn’t.
It defies belief.
Medical scandals take so much. For us it took:
Andrew’s life
Time as a family
Precious memories
And finally, it took our choice.
Andrew, deserved to choose the end of his life. He didn’t, it was taken from him.
All so others could protect their jobs, their reputations. 💔
Scot gov debated lowering the age of elderly during covid to 65. On realising that meant the Cab Sec for health wouldn’t be able to leave home, they stuck with WM decision (70).
So so true, take it from someone who lost their husband nearly 6 months ago - we (the kids and I) don’t want to forget him and the massive part he has, and continues to, play in our lives ❤️
The board added: “This included comments that were misinformed, and this impacted on our ability to inform and communicate effectively with families.”
@NHSGGC
you will be providing my ‘misinformed’ tweets to back this statement up, won’t you?
A little help with definitions for
@HumzaYousaf
.
Please note I am not, nor have I ever been a journalist. However the GGC type of ‘monitoring’ does match the definition of covert surveillance - WHY?
“I had worked in TV & papers from Glasgow to Fleet Street but never before encountered such cowardice, stupidity & cruel disregard.”
Former SNP MSP on the SNPs new (old) leader
Exclusive: Scottish NHS whistleblower Rab Wilson says the current system allows health boards to act 'completely unaccountably and with impunity' – potentially leading to avoidable tragedies
@ginadavidsonlbc
@NHSGGC
@AnasSarwar
Sorry when did GGC apologise to the individual (I have a name btw that they seem happy to use usually)?
I seem to have missed the apology.
NB an apology to me, as an individual, is not through a media comment I read in the paper.
@Fyrishsunset
Personally I’m wondering how he can represent the Scottish COVID Bereaved in an inquiry where they are investigating decisions made by Scottish Government, the SNP government. He has quite clearly shown where his loyalties lie & it’s not with the families…
Before you tweet this sort of rubbish
@MhairiHunter
I suggest you ask yourself what was behind the decision making to add a patients bereaved wife.
Then ask if there is any possible better way to spend NHS funds.
The Daily Record/Sunday Mail has lost the plot a bit on the issue of NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde conducting media monitoring. Now they are accusing the board of "spying" on what Anas Sarwar has been saying about them in public. Bizarre.
Today a coroner ruled that 2 yo, Awaab Ishak, died from exposure to mould in his home, photos 1&2.
Photos 3&4 are from

superhospital in Glasgow. Wards housing some of the most vulnerable patients, now. What is being done? 1/n
@markthehibby
How many times did he mention “the SNP” or “the party”, he seems to be forgetting that as he stands he will be leading the ENTIRE country.
Not a good look
Thank you to everyone for their messages of support, we are all totally overwhelmed by it but now we would like some time and privacy in which to grieve.
But she was still a senior civil servant who thought the rules didn’t apply - that is what stood out for me - she provided the karaoke machine.
The macho and egotistic environment does not excuse HER actions
Interview from First Minister on QEUH Whistleblower story suggests this is all news to Scottish Government, but is it?
Look at the Operating framework for HIS and SG
Interesting
@HumzaYousaf
not quite as sure today on whether GGC had implemented QEUH recommendations as he was when he took them out of special measures…
I sit here relieved as I no longer have to make the choice between my husbands risk from COVID and my children’s life chances. My husband, my children’s father, died of Covid in December.
Good news on the easing of restrictions. Please remember when you are celebrating being able to hug your loved ones, there are families and friends of over 10,000 people in scotland that will never be able to hug their loved one again
#COVID19
A common theme of NHS Scotland scandals - avoiding scrutiny of clinical governance and NHS management.
There is 1 obvious reason why SG goes to such lengths to avoid this, they already know….
My response to
@MathesonMichael
why he won’t grant us a public inquiry into
@NHSTayside
and SNP failings allowing butcher Eljamel to severely harm 127 victims (to date) with life changing injuries.
⬇️⬇️⬇️
NHS GGC organisational duty of candour
❌not told of medication overdose
❌not told of aspergillus or resultant prognosis
❌missing medical notes (29 months v 30 day legal time limit)
What’s the effect of breaching org DoC

Q today re: sacking Leitch -
We will delay taking any action to allow Mr Leitch to continue to take his large salary for as long as possible despite flouting FOI law, the Inquiries Act & COVID masks rules
Chair of
@NHSGGC
, a suspect in corporate homicide, is to become
@scotgov
advisor on GOOD GOVERNANCE….
SG are either, trying to admit to something, recognising the extraordinary achievement of GGC in covering up or are just plain stupid.
The point at which
@scotgov
have the decency to inform me if any of these ‘reams’ of WhatsApps involve my husband
@slorance
is anyone’s guess.
I am disgusted that they are delaying, even on this.
1/ I know this is tough. But this new virus strain is spreading much faster, and so we must act quickly to stop it taking hold. That means even tighter restrictions through January to prevent the serious situation currently faced by places like London & save lives.
Hugely powerful video by the victims of Eljamel. They have all been through great trauma, both mentally and physically.
@scotgov
should be focused on giving these brave people the answers they deserve now, not delaying the bad headlines 👇
These are some impact statements from Butcher Eljamel's victims. The impact clips remind us all why a Public Inquiry matters! It's extremely moving and there will be those who find it too distressing to watch. 💔
@eljamelInquiry
@Fyrishsunset
@markthehibby
@AgentP22
Jason Leitch, Ken Thomson, Jeane Freeman, Gregor Smith and others were all 'coached' by top legal firm ahead of giving evidence to the UK Covid Inquiry.
Speaks volumes and we’re paying for it, same as with the Salmondgate Inquiry coaching.
@AgentP22
@StephenFlynnSNP
@agcolehamilton
Stephen Flynn showed one of the SNP values - everyone is allowed an opinion as long as it is ours. If your opinion differs, they’ll set their pals on you. Childish and disgusting.
Spin has really gone downhill in Scotland….not employed effectively anymore, but don’t worry it doesn’t stop there.
Just change the spin when it is obvious the 1st attempt won’t hold.
Wonder when honesty and transparency will come back into fashion?
A decision has been made to hold an FAI into the death of baby Sophia Smith at the Royal Hospital for Children at the QEUH Campus, Glasgow on 11 April 2017
Let’s not forget, Andrew is only one victim among x others - GGC and SG are failing to act on a patient safety issue.
They have failed to act on whistleblowers concerns for years, favouring reputation over people’s lives.
It’s beyond time to act.
“And what kind of people go back on a promise to a grieving widow?”
#MrBates
I could provide a 🏴list - but the Paula Venables line: “This is about the reputation” sums it up
Organisational reputation supersedes people’s lives.
