Farmer’s wife accused of plotting husband’s murder in staged farm attack Anelle de Bruin, a 46-year-old farmer's wife from the Aliwal North district in the Eastern Cape, was arrested for allegedly plotting to murder her husband, Johan de Bruin, by hiring a hitman. Reports indicate that she approached an individual who was actually an undercover police informant and offered payment in exchange for carrying out the murder. She allegedly instructed the informant to make the killing look like a farm attack to avoid suspicion. The police were tipped off about the plot, leading to her arrest. De Bruin appeared in court on 17 January 2025, where she was granted bail of R2,000. Her next court appearance is set for 5 March 2025.
