👩🏼‍🦯😱Tip of the Day: if you see a white cane user walking down the road, please don’t step out directly in front of them so they walk into you and then say “are you okay? “. Chances are, they probably will have been okay up until the point that they collided with you.

👩🏼‍🦯🙄So often at the bus stop I have an unprompted conversation like this. Which bus are you waiting for? Me: says number where do you want to go? Me: says destination. Yes, that’s the bus you need. Sometimes they add “well done”. Anyone else get this? I’m blind not lost😂

So please, never interact with a guide dog in harness while they are guiding their owner. if the guide dog appears not to be working/having some downtime e.g. when on a bus or tube ask the owner first before petting them and if they say no, respect their response. Thank you.

in the third case I was able to work TGD on past the distracting man. However had we been approaching obstacles such as Lamposts or bollards that TGD needed to guide me past, or steps or kerbs that TGD needed to stop at, the outcome could have been very different.

🦮😱 when peoples insistence on “helping”becomes dangerous rather than just unnecessary. Just been dragged across a busy road by a man when it wasn’t green and there were cars parked across the crossing, despite me saying I was fine to cross on my own when it turned Green.

Day 3’s walk was a repeat of the route to the gym and then the station. TGD was well-behaved lying down next to the bike while I did a workout. He loves the station and when I asked him to find the steps he not only did so but took me straight to the handrail. #LifeChanger

🦮. if you are walking in a group spanning the whole pavement and see a guide dog coming towards you do you a) carry on taking up the whole pavement, b) stop in front of the guide Dog or c) move to let the guide dog pass. Those choosing a or b were definitely out in force today.

TGD’s day: today we went to a place with lots of lovely trees and smells where I was allowed to let my fur down and run free. Might have chased a few squirrels too. Strange human was very pleased every time I returned to her when she blew her whistle. #GuideDog #LifeChanger

🤗A big shout out to the many @GWRHelp staff who assisted us on our journey today on the 1355 from Great Malvern to Reading and onto our next train to London and to my amazing mother for driving Otto and me to Great Malvern when the train at her local station was cancelled.

TGD’s day: got to have fun running around a new park today as well as having snoozes in the gym and café. Learned that I am apparently not supposed to chase squirrels while in harness🦮😞🐿️ thought the strange human said she wanted a fast dog and I know she likes a workout😕

Another good training day. Route to the tube station followed by the gym and then a new route to the park where TGD enjoyed a free run before we made our way home again via our favourite café. Thanks @ArtizanCoffee for making us so welcome.

Otto’s day: I had an amazing time today in Regents Park joining in with football and frisbee games and running around. The best bit though was seeing the wonderful people who I lived with when I was doing my guide dog training. I was a very happy Otto with a very Waggy tail.

Otto’s day: on the bus another human was telling the strange human about a blind dog he had seen chasing a whippet. That’s amazing says the strange human that a dog unable to see was able to chase another dog. No he says a dog like yours. FYI I’m a guide dog not a blind dog!!🦮🤗

TGD’s day: today started off like other training days but in the afternoon after the nice trainer human left the strange human and I went on our own to a café. Strange human seemed very excited about this. I think she said good boy to me over a million times as I guided her🦮😕

An amazing day! Training walk into Putney and the gym. In the afternoon TGD and I were allowed to try our first route on our own to my favourite cafe. We made it there and back in one piece. He is truly a #LifeChanger #GuideDog thanks @artisan_coffee for the usual warm welcome.

Route to the gym and then onto our favourite café today. TGD did so well we are now able to do this route alone. TGD navigated numerous sets of pavement works many of which I was unaware of until our trainer told me later. Evidence of just how amazing and Life Changing TGD is.

First trip to the gym today on our own. TGD did brilliantly including navigating an “off-kerb”, where pavement works or another obstacle blocks the pavement completely requiring a guide dog to guide their owner into the road and then back onto the pavement to get round them.

Today’s training walk was into town and back home via my favourite café. TGD had done part of the route already with the trainer but the part in town was new. He took it all in his stride stopping at every kerb and avoiding people and other obstacles. It felt amazing! 🤗🦮

TGD continues to amaze me. Did all of the route to Work and Home again with our trainer watching from a distance. TGD unphased by crowds, pavement works, crowd control barriers placed randomly on the pavement or pretty much anything else. Still excited by squirrels though!

TGD’s day: took the strange human to the gym today and had a good snooze. later when she asked me to find the steps a man grabbed her and pulled her towards the steps and she nearly fell down them😱I would have got her to them much more carefully😒Please let me do my job! 🦮🐾

Random interaction of the day: Otto and I are walking quickly along the road to the gym A man shouts are you looking for the art gallery. I say no and carry on walking. He shouts are you lost and I say no and continue walking and he then shouts I was only trying to help!

@DasherRetiredGD I bet you look even more handsome with that purple lead, Dasher. Did you manage to jump and roll in muddy puddles? I think my sofa is missing you. Not that you ever did any more than look at it😉 and I miss you lots but I am so so glad you are happy in your forever home.

🦮😕 I think there must be a lot of people in my area called Otto. Several times a week as I’m approaching a pedestrian crossing and say “Otto, find the button““someone grabs me and pulls me towards the crossing button. I know you mean well but please can you let Otto do his job?

🦮And we’re off! TGD arrived today and we did a training walk to my gym (no excuses for me now!) , to the tube station and then home again. Even though my trainer is holding the lead while I hold the harness, I already sense the freedom that TGD is going to give me. #GuideDog

I reply with a slightly bemused thank you but so want to shout”yay, I’ve won the bus lottery today with a match between my randomly selected bus route and destination!” or express disappointment as I’d hoped the bus would take me somewhere more interesting.

Otto’s day: lots of walking around with the strange human today and she said good boy to me a lot. One walk was to the park where I got to let my fur down🤗I think I am the best ball stealing dog in Putney. Strangely the strange human didn’t say good boy to me once for this.😕🎾

👩🏼‍🦯🦮 Yesterday I met another guide dog owner whose previous dog had retired and was on the waiting list for a new one. We agreed that whoever got their new dog first would buy the other a drink. Any other Guide dog waiters want to do the same? #SolidarityOnTheWaitingList

👩🏼‍🦯🤯 that heartsink feeling when an app or website which was previously accessible has been upgraded and now is inaccessible to blind people. Result? frustration for blind people and a sense of being a second-class citizen and potentially lost business for companies
