Mick Lynch making a fantastic point on @Peston . Government puts up, without fail, rail fares by RPI each year. Yet the workers are denied an RPI based pay increase. The government has roundly lost the argument on these strikes, but they press ahead for political reasons.

@EmmaKennedy Emma this is so unfair. I’m a Lib Dem cllr, I did ‘work experience’ for a day with my local MP (a Tory) when I was 16. It was nothing to do with party politics, I had no idea what my beliefs were then. If anything spending time with Tories helped to solidify I wasn’t one.

Zahawi sacked. Fair play Sunak has shown how ruthless and decisive he is by dithering and delaying, taking up multiple news cycles, letting it drag over PMQs…before doing the only thing that was an option. I really hope this guy is still in charge at the next election.

What I don’t understand about the Tory approach is that presumably a ‘win’ is workers admit defeat and go back to work unhappy, underpaid, undervalued, under-appreciated. And those are the people who then run our hospitals, schools, transport, etc etc. Just get round the table!

One thing I’m fed up with is it being ok for Ministers to just resign their post but remain as an MP. Some behaviour should disqualify you from public life, not just the cabinet. Goes for Zahawi too. Quitting the cabinet is a cop out.

2. It’s a relief because I have been desperate to live, and raise my kids, with a reasonable government that cares about normal people who just want to get on and live normal lives, and more importantly genuinely cares about the most vulnerable. I believe we have that now.

I’m not certain why people really need to hear this, but if Labour went into the next election on a promise to revisit Brexit, rejoin the EU or SM etc, it would allow Johnson to campaign on his one and only winning ‘get Brexit done’ ticket again, and Labour would lose.
