Anyone who knows me will know this is something of a dream for me, so it brings me much much joy to share that from around March I’ll be joining
@thebookseller
team as a senior reporter for the next year 😍✍🏻📚
Since this has taken off somewhat, I guess the done thing is to promote something, so: I work with a dedicated team of talented journalists who work tirelessly to tell heartwarming/informative/breaking/quirky/etc Cambridgeshire stories every single day. Head to
@Cambslive
🥰
💜⚡️COVER REVEAL⚡️💜
I’m so excited to share with you the gorgeous cover of my upcoming book, Hands, designed by the brilliant

!
Thank you, too, to
@matthaig1
for helping adorn it in lovely words
Out Jan ‘22, pre-order here:
Have any of you ever done a creative writing course and was it worth it? I’m so torn because I hear so much bad press and ££££ 🥵 but I also really want the guidance and to develop - any thoughts / recs / advice?
Episode 1 of
#DragRaceUK
is such a hilarious exposure of the chasm between what ru Paul expected the U.K. to be like (regal opulence) vs what it really is like (“I’m a fukern gob shite from Blackpool n a love nob”)
Can’t recommend
@samaritans
Jo email service enough - especially for anyone feeling like they can’t physically talk about it on the phone or otherwise anymore
After an extraordinary year and a half
@thebookseller
, today is my last day. I'm excited to share that from next week, I'll be joining
@CHEERIOPublish

So excited to finally be able to share details of my debut, Hands: An Anxious Mind Unpicked, with you📚👇🏻out in hardback, e-book and audio in January 2022

I don't care - if you email me with an 'x' at the end or a smiley face, I will love you forever
Cold corporate speak does nothing for those of us with anxiety and small inflections like these are rays of pure sunshine. Professionalism smeshanalism I say
If nutrition / healthiness wasn’t a thing, what is the one thing you would gorge yourself on all the time? I would simply drink condensed milk by the can, every day, for the rest of my life
Anyone else occasionally feel overwhelmed by the amount of new books out and the sense that you should be reading certain things and 𝒇𝒂𝒔𝒕? Anyway that's why I'm now reading an atmospheric 700 page gothic from 1860
Almost a year ago today I went through redundancy and since I’ve written for publications I admire like the Guardian, have a book coming out with
@HarperNorthUK
and a literary agent I love,
@MariliaSavvides
. Dreams really do come true when you least expect it
#feelingproud
It still hasn't sunk in that tomorrow (eek!) Hands finally hits the shelves. My ❤️ is so full
Thanks so much to everyone who has already bought a copy, & for those of you who haven't & might yet spot it in an actual bookshop (!!), please send pics! 📚

Did you know it's deep, ancient, magic London Book Fair lore that any publishers who are patient with the Bookseller news team in the run up to LBF win every auction they participate in for the next 12 months
After a stunning and invaluable year as a staff writer and podcast host
@PeopleMgt
I am escaping London and will be joining the
@Cambslive
team as a content editor in July ✍️✨
In the meantime, will hopefully have a mic drop of an episode of

coming soon... 🔊
I'm writing again. Trying not to put too much pressure on whether it's any good or not, whether it will turn into anything, and trying to keep the self doubt at bay - but I'm writing again
Who knew
@RobGMacfarlane
’s whorling account of finding footing in a deeply old, labyrinthine, flowstoned netherworld would provide a sort of map to aid my navigation of this complicated upper world
#Underland
Read this book! The comfort it provides is unexpected + full
Lads do you know HOW MANY rights deals the bookseller team has written this week (BILLIONS) and yet you would deny us a snares? A bags? A nets? A runs away gleefully with, leaving a boardroom of crying competitors in their dust, into the sunset, ready to touch hearts and minds?
Reading some early pages of
@natashacarthew

ahead of our launch at

on Friday, and I feel so seen and heard and emotional and disappointed but, most importantly hopeful that there are people out there bringing about change
All I'm saying is that if, at the end of this season of Ted Lasso, a publisher doesn't pick up and publish the book fictional character Trent Crimm is throughout this series writing about fictional football club AFC Richmond, I will be very disappointed
I lap up true crime as much as anyone else, but there’s something so gratuitous and insensitive about
@BBCOne
‘s
#jacktheripper
doc I’ve had to turn it off.
Never going to be solved, weak effort to humanise the women, sensationalises “jack”, of what I watched added nothing new
My partner and I are already 90% speaking in ‘bits’, nonsense words, inexplicable nicknames, stupid voices and in-jokes and I genuinely fear I won’t be able to communicate w the outside world outside anymore after all this.
It’s like an episode of In the Night Garden in here
"I may have to alter my accent...but I still want to live my dream"
PLEASE DON'T ALTER YOUR ACCENT, ANON😢 You do not have to! It is balm for my soul whenever I hear anyone with a non-London/non-posh accent in publishing + makes me feel better for mine
Hi lovely people - I'm going to be dusting off my hat and doing a bit of freelance reporting for

Shout out to anyone else who finds this time of year just really hard, when with the cold and dark decisions weigh heavier, thoughts run deeper and for longer and life feels harder, to move slower. Remember you're as loved now as in the sunshine. That's what I'm telling myself
Guys 😭 I think it went really really well 😭 I *loved* it, felt full of joy and excitement and inspired and entirely comfortable with
@ruth_comerford
and I want to keep talking about my book and my writing! V proud of myself!
This is tonight, it's my first ever in-person event about my book and I'm nervy, lads! 🫠 Authors, please throw all your advice my way on how you do this
Does anyone have any U.K. based writers retreat recommendations? (Needs to be somewhere you can get to without being able to drive, and prefer less teaching/more just a place of calm/solitude/WiFi/rolling hills etc etc…)
Was just asked about my “gap in employment” following my redundancy back in August by a potential client/employer, so pls allow me to say it again loud and proud for those in the back: I am self-employed! There has been no gap! I am thriving for what is probs the first time ever!
The paperback of my memoir Hands: An Anxious Mind Unpicked comes out on Thurs (5th Jan) and I'd be so grateful for any support - it's been a year since it first came out and 2 since I wrote it, and being a debut author is exciting in many ways but also confusing and strange [...]
Since MSN messenger is trending let’s relive the time I was dumped after school only for my DIAL UP INTERNET to fail me so I didn’t know and then I had to be double dumped in person
This is superb. Completely deranged, absorbing, creepy, beautifully written / translated. Can’t recommend highly enough
Out from

Wrote some words this evening. Not many, and they may only ever stay right where they are, seen by my eyes only, but after feeling so low about my writing for a... while, it felt good, like hope. I felt that stirring, that crackle

As an author it's hard not to feel sometimes like your book appeared for the briefest moment, took off, and then just sunk somewhere below the horizon out of sight, into oblivion. But today a reading group reached out to me, a group of psychotherapists in Newcastle [cont]..
Back at my

Ever have a book that’s been sat on your shelf for a while and when you get round to reading it’s like “holy shit this has been here, I’ve been living with THIS, and not knowing, this whole time”? Breathtakingly good

Walked to my local vaccine centre for my booster shot today and was in and out in less than ten minutes.
We’re so at risk of taking the miraculous NHS for granted, but walking home earlier I really felt the weight and truth of that fact. We are so, so lucky
walked the dog and a bunch of the other local dog walkers were also there and when I left I said 'enjoy the rest of your days!' bc there were several of them so my brain pluralised days but it actually just came out sounding like a threat which is great

THANK YOU♥️ to the incredibly generous and inimitable

Just had the most incredible talk with my 98 year old (!!)

‘call companion’ (dear friend) about her near death experience working machinery during WWII/the Sheffield Blitz and today she signed off “love you, bye my little love”
Best thing I’ve ever done - volunteer!
It’s out! 🥹
If Hands wasn’t dedicated to my twin sister/wombmate/blessing of my life
@oliviabrown95
, about whom it’s probably about as much as me, it would’ve been dedicated to all the anxious children who’ve grown up into anxious adults. I see you!
In all good bookshops etc🧡
Happy paperback publication day to

Two years ago today I flipped a massive learnèd V to the sixth form head who told me applying to Cambridge was a waste of my time and to all the teachers who underestimated me because I wore mascara, short skirts and kissed boys 👋🏻
Given the size of his book advances and influence, Matt Haig should set up a fund for young writers who want to cover mental health from disadvantaged / marginalised backgrounds imo, like, how great would that be
I couldn't love the beautiful hardback version of my book more (that pink foil on the spine and cover😍)
So for £3 (?!!) it would, I'd humbly suggest, make a gorgeous addition to any bookshelf - and I hear the book itself isn't half bad either
RTs appreciated 💕
‘Lauren Brown’s debut memoir is a moving and frank account of discovery and reflection. Hands marks Brown out as a startling new working-class writer.’
Thanks to

is UNDER £3!
Reminded every Halloween of the time a woman who didn’t have any sweets went in and got us each a fresh Yorkshire pudding from the roast she’d just made
I think having lots of books and identifying that with some part of who you are or how you identify is… ok? I don’t think it amounts to “a stand-in for your personality”, no more than having a wall full of, say, warhammer figurines or lovely China dishes
I can’t tell you how much of a freelancer’s DREAM it is to receive an email from an editor starting “I was wondering if I could commission you t–“ YES, a thousand times yes 😭
