I’ve had three Brazilian friends sending me Angela Rayner’s story saying “What about Jean Charles de Menezes??”
I do the most for this party convincing migrants to vote Labour. Shoot and ask questions later cannot be our policy.
I see a lot of “lexiteers” claiming a monopoly of working class experience as if EU migrants in the UK have all had amazingly rich lives. I did not scrub other people’s toilets for 3 years to now be called an enemy of the working class and “out of touch” with working life!
This is my interaction with
@Ryanair
before boarding in Barcelona today.
I kept being told they were doing random checks. I knew it wasn’t true. I pushed and pushed and they finally admitted my nationality, amongst others, was being targeted.
Wrong and baseless.
Our Young Europeans Network chair
@LaraCParizotto
was told by
@Ryanair
"Do you want to fly or not?" when she resisted the demand to provide ID on top of her Italian passport. She had to comply or be denied boarding.
Lara asked for guidance but got none.
MASSIVE solidarity in London today with Palestine.
Marched with the Brazilian Workers’ Party bloc ✊ We are all Palestinians.

Obligatory start of the job bathroom selfie!
8 years ago, I was putting on my uniform and looking not so happy to start my shift to clean 300 desks.
Now, I am starting my role as a Councillor in Hounslow and couldn’t be more excited to put all my experiences and ideas to good use
Mocking the digital piano serenade will only further encourage men to do less than the bare minimum on dates and I am not here for it.
ps. I don't want a digital piano serenade
It’s Christmas and my thoughts are with all asylum seekers in hotels being served ready meals and not even allowed to use communal areas to cook.
An asylum seeker in a local hotel sends me photos of what he’s given everyday.

and private contractors are a disgrace!
28th Feb 2022 going down as a big one!
Approved for citizenship in the morning.
Mum left in the afternoon :(
Now selected as Labour’s Brentford West candidate for the May elections with
@GuyLambert
Celebrating with Oreo milkshake ofc!
(Official candidate photo coming soon!)
Arrived in the UK in 2014.
Worked as an office cleaner.
Saw the horrors of the Hostile Environment.
Started canvassing with
@BOSLabour
because I knew my working and living conditions were NOT right!
Been campaigning ever since!
Next step, elected politician??
Every time I mention the cost of citizenship application (£1,330) versus the cost of actually processing it (£372) people are rightfully shocked.
Government keeps making a profit on migrants.
Want to see real commitment from Labour that fees will be reduced when in power.
Canvassing with

Knocked on Spanish person’s house. She says “sorry I can’t vote anymore because of Brexit”
ALL EU CITIZENS CAN VOTE TOMORROW.
So glad I got the chance to talk to her today! She is heading to the polling station tomorrow!
My questions are:
- Why are certain nationalities being targeted? How are they chosen?
- Where is this policy from? Can we see it?
- What would happen if I didn’t have another ID?
- Why did they say it was “random” checks?
- When did these extra checks start?

Biggest crowd I’ve ever seen in a march!
In our millions, in our billions, we are all Palestinians. 🇵🇸
Anti-racism, liberation, freedom, justice, anti-colonialism. That is what London stands for.

Congratulations to COUNCILLORS
@jonesbert
@CllrRosaGomez
@LaraCParizotto
and Natalia Perez, newly elected and re-elected Latin American Labour representatives across London. Hoping for several more to join them through Friday!
Not long ago I didn’t know what Cambridge even was. Not long ago I was working as a cleaner in London, barely coping.
Safe to say, I wasn’t “meant to be” here.
But I got in!
Just as impressive, I made through 3 years of an emotionally draining degree (and a relationship)!

Just voted Lula for president!
And now on the way to Birmingham for Conservative Party Conference to advocate for
@MigrantDemos
’s OurHomeOurVote campaign so the 100s of thousands of Brazilians voting today can also have a democratic say in UK elections.
I spoke to
@RPKBennett_Ldn
@myldn
about my decision to leave the Labour Party.
Yesterday’s vote strengthened my decision.
I joined Labour and stood as a cllr for migrant justice, liberation, democracy. I continue fighting for them as an Independent cllr.
Can Rishi explain how those of us w/ pre-payment energy meters (yes some still live like that) will benefit from the discount? What about those w/ bills included in rent? Are landlords going to share the "discount" with the "household"?
The govt doesn't know how many people live.
I’ve muted this because horrible. Getting DMs saying I should be deported with “them”.
Some things to remember:
1. Asylum seekers don’t have the right to work. So rather than being angry your taxpayer money is going on hotels for others, ask the government to

On the way to Manston Detention Centre.
Asylum seekers are experiencing unacceptable conditions in detention centres. We are here to say it loudly they are WELCOME HERE!
There are no good or bad migrants. There are people who do good AND bad things. Migrants, surprisingly, are people. That’s reason enough for them to have rights. Outstanding achievements, hard work, and talent can be acknowledged everywhere else - just not the immigration system.
Talk about refugees and there’s always the “why don’t you take a few?” comment.
I can’t. Like most, I don’t have the resources to.
The point of (a good) govt is to mobilise our collective resources in ways individuals can’t.
Asylum should be based on meeting needs appropriately.
I’ve done a lot for socialism but getting a 6 hours bus from Liverpool to London just so I can vote for Lula tomorrow and immediately get another 3 hour bus to Birmingham when I could have just gone from Liverpool to Birmingham is one of the most dedicated acts.
Dear
@pritipatel
@ukhomeoffice
, last night I transferred you over £1300 for my citizenship.
Given it only costs your department £372 to process the application, I am sure the profit of over £900 you are making will go to good use and not border force and £70K eyebrows, right?
@easyJet
denied me boarding in Palma de Mallorca because I have a Romanian passport and I'm going back to the UK, where I have lived for the last 12 years.
They asked for additional photo ID which they said would prove I have an immigration status in the UK.
If it’s not too much to ask, could the Labour Party have a concerted, bold and proud pro-immigration message in return for the years of support and hard work immigrants like me have dedicated to this party? Thanks in advance xx
I've lived in the UK for 5 years, shared insecure accommodation with immigrants working as cleaners, waiters + gigecon. I would always tell them that a
@UKLabour
govt would help and encouraged them to join the party. it's time Labour stands up for migrants rights
#WeAreLabourToo
Surprise surprise! My Italian passport was also targeted by the airline for extra checks. Was told it was just a “random” check. Pressed for answers and they finally admitted it was targeted to Italian passports.
My British friend next to me was not asked for extra ID.
Abhorrent that certain nationalities are being targeted for extra security checks.
No physical proof of status for EU citizens is a problem in itself.
The UK Hostile Environment privatises its policies in the most irrational and simply wrong ways.
Most Russians in the UK or anywhere have nothing to do with this war. And so they shouldn’t “pay the price”. Naturalisation is a right you gain after jumping hundreds of Home Office hurdles.
Hope I never get attacked for Bolsonaro’s actions.
Absolutely in love with today’s
@Migrants4Labour
@labourdoorstep_
@Hounslow_Labour
canvassing session!
Registered lots of new voters, found Brazilians in Brentford, and Labour supporters in Chiswick!
Loved showing our migrant residents our voices ARE in politics!
#VoteLabour
You know the Government achieved the highest level of the Hostile Environment when you tell your migrant friends they can get the vaccine without an NHS number and they immediately assume it's a Home Office ploy to catch them.
A statement on my resignation as a councillor.
I will forever champion Brentford and I am as active as ever in politics.
I am working with residents and councillors for a smooth transition.

First three years in the UK I worked, alongside other Latin Americans, as an outsourced cleaner. We knew little to nothing about our rights and accepted what I now know we shouldn’t have.
I am so glad IWGB is present and supporting cleaners taking action for their rights! 💪
Incredible! Feeling proud and emotional to have been a small part of this amazing, powerful, brave movement with children, colleagues, activists, families, and people from everywhere!
In our millions!
I hate the housing market. I hate it. Viewed latest flat. Agent calls back 5 mins after viewing “it’s off the market now. Landlord wants to turn it into an airbnb to make more money”.
THIS is the bad place.
I don’t know about you, but I am feeling… 26?!
Happy birthday to me! This pisces season is being very good.
Spending the day with
@alexandrabulat
is the present a girl could get!
When I first started working with policy and amendments to Bills, I thought I would be having interesting political debates.
Instead, I have to explain basic concepts to people who have been in Parliament for longer than I have been alive.
Democracy is alive and well.
If you see a EUSS campaigner/volunteer from tomorrow, buy them a drink or a spa voucher…
Most importantly, take their word for the work they are doing. We know immigration issues on the ground. Lived experience matters. No agenda to make stuff up. Would much rather sleep.
Just practically speaking, now that I’ll have 3 nationalities 🇧🇷🇮🇹🇬🇧, I will only be accepting marriage proposals from those with 3 OTHER nationalities so our children can be international super spies or president of the world or something. DMs are open. Thanks x
I had a marvellous time ruining everything…
@alexandrabulat
and I had a great time today criticising the Hostile Environment to Home Office employees. Always a fun experience.
What happens to our complaints is a different conversation but we complain anyway!
Easy to take for granted eligibility for services. Imagine you wake up tomorrow without lawful status. Suddenly shut out from jobs, rent, and more.
It’s about to happen to thousands of EU citizens who don’t apply for the EU Settlement Scheme.
A political choice from the start.
Shout out to the DPD driver who saw me crying and tried to help by asking if I was crying because of a boy but got very confused when I said it was because of an amendment. I appreciate you.
Live in England. Have Italian citizenship. Can’t speak Italian. But can only live in England because of Italian citizenship. Will support one for the first half and another for the second.
16th time donating blood and I fainted today. 0/10 experience. Do not recommend.
Be really nice to me and ask your MP to back Residence-Based Voting Rights. Thanks.
I can never read about Cressida Dick without thinking about Jean Charles de Menezes and the many other migrants and ethnic minorities disproportionately and unfairly targeted in police operations.
Turning 27 today (or entering year 1 of my life cycle as my numerologist told me) and here is 4 things that made me happy cry in Iceland - including my mum getting a tattoo with our favourite saying to each other ❤️
Let it be a great one 🙌
Helping friends do the school run this week.
One is a cleaner and one is a courier rider - a job typically touted as great for flexibility.
Turning off the app for the pick ups cuts his pay by about a third which they can’t afford.
Nothing flexible in poverty pay.
Super afternoon with

delivering a workshop for the Hong Kong Migrants' Aspiration Programme.
We talked about values, community, communications, and lots more to get the group prepared to make the change they want to see!
Super excited to see their future work!

I am seeing so many young people selected to stand as Labour councillors in the May elections. I think it’s really good news and also expect (hope?) these are members committed against discrimination and keen to take action on issues like transphobia in the party.
I was in the Labour Party for a long time.
People can make excuses on why they can’t vote for something or sign an EDM.
But those are just excuses. Values can and should speak louder. Well done to the MPs that made the right decision for themselves, their residents, and justice
BREAKING: At least 11 Frontbench Labour MPs have voted for an SNP amendment calling for a ceasefire in Gaza:

Afzal Khan

couldn’t ask for a better co-director!!
Will take this award next time i’m doing voter reg to say to every migrant their voice is valued
We did it!!!!!!!
Thousands of steps to register migrants to vote! Hours of advocacy asking for the extension of the right to vote to all residents!
It means a lot to us and all migrants living under the Hostile Environment that their voices and votes matter!
#OurHomeOurVote
What an inspiration
@TanDhesi
is!
Thanks for speaking up about representation, community, organising, and for speaking up here at Royal Vauxhall Tavern and in Parliament for migrants’ rights!
Organising our communities is an everyday job!
Navigating the UK’s immigration system is like playing the most complex puzzle where none of the pieces fit together and the final product is just a horrendous mess and you end up with a million paper cuts playing it.
I’m tired of a system that works for absolutely no one!
Couple of weeks ago I made this TikTok about some of the casework I have been doing as a councillor. Saving the pigeons and repairing the wall have been some of the top priorities.
I have explored all avenues. I have written 100s of briefing papers. I have sent 1000s of emails.
The only thing left for me to do is become an MP myself so I don't need to beg others for voting rights.
Watch this space.
I should be used to it by now but every time a politician tells me they will bring up my issue (residence-based voting rights) in Parliament but then don't, a bit of me dies.
I am tuning in to Parliament tv. Please just make my time worth.
It’s my UK anniversary 🎉
SEVEN years of my life. 7 years away from family, friends, pets. I complain a lot (and will continue to) but still worth it.
Can’t even imagine where I would be if I had not made this big move!
Next time I write a funding application to attend party conferences to do advocacy, I’ll make sure to include budget for therapy and a week long spa retreat to recover.
I know we all know the immigration system is a cruel mess.
But there are days like today when you get messages from
-someone evicted from a HO hotel and about to sleep rough
-another person detained by police
-another needing support for child's status
And you can easily lose it.

Final few hours in Liverpool and I am just so grateful for the opportunities this last week has provided to campaign, dance, have fun, and tell migrants' stories on different platforms!
- spoke at many events and hosted our own
- did A LOT of leafleting
- partied
- campaigned!
