OTD Robert Peel was born at Chamber Hall, Bury in 1788. He served as Prime Minister and Home Secretary and is considered the father of modern British policing, having steered through a bill through parliament to set up the Metropolitan Police. #Lancashire #PoliceHistory

Jackie Howard on Princess at our @LancsPolice Hutton HQ in 1986. Jackie was a pioneer, being one of the first two female officers on the Mounted Branch (with Leslie Shanley) in the 1970s. Today it's quite different with 11 women officers and 7 men in our Mounted Unit.

Love this notice for a "Gent's Bicycle" from 1911, presumed stolen at Waterloo (Merseyside). It's no longer part of Lancashire Constabulary's area. At different times, Lancashire Constabulary has stretched out to Barrow-in-Furness, Ashton-under-Lyne and Rochdale.

We are very grateful for a donation in the memory of Dr Guy Woolnough which has enabled us to buy floor cushions for school visits. The Cathedral Catholic Primary School were trying them out and finding out about roles in policing today.

@BBC were filming @LanConMuseum today to publicise the search for family of Isabella Ruxton & Mary Rogerson, murdered by Buck Ruxton in 1935. Edinburgh University recently found their skulls and would like to trace relatives. We look at this case here.

Action was taken in the 1930s to improve accidents on the roads due to poor driving. First, 92 vehicles, 50 motorbikes & 300 men were employed on the roads. @LancsPolic created a new dept. to give advice to schoolchildren. Accidents reduced by 44%. #technology #Museum30

#Museum30 The uniform for @LancsPolice was green when it was set up in 1839. The uniform was described as "Uniform Dark Green, with White Embroidery and Buttons". We have a fantastic photo of the centenary celebrations for @LancsPolice in recreations of the 1839 uniforms.

Excellent trip for @LanConMuseum volunteers to Shrewsbury Prison. We loved the displays that looked like the prison had just closed yesterday. As a museum also in a former prison it was fascinating. Big thanks to @MusDevNorth for funding this trip.

Today on Anti Slavery Day we remember the 23 victims and the survivors of the Morecambe Bay cockling tragedy in 2004. We look at the @LancsPolice investigation in our Op Lund display at the museum and the aftermath with changes in legislation to protect vulnerable people.
