If your White in Portland, only the three blocks downtown around the Federal Court House are a war zone. If you’re Black, the entire city is a war zone. You have to fight for your right to live, exist and sustain yourself. #BlackLivesMatter

One of my guys got a a citation for j-walking in Beaverton. When he told me I was quite upset that a public servant would find that a good use of their time or resources. He goes to court today and the judge says “You’ve got to be kidding young man, you are free to go, sorry.”

There are multiple worlds existing at the same time in Portland. There’s one with espresso lattes, plant shops, Sunday brunch, and corporate careers. And there is another, of underemployment, cyclical trauma, and the casual destruction of human bodies only numbed by substances.

Maybe unpopular opinion: I’ve come to the conclusion that part of Portland‘s long-term houselesness solution must include banning camping on public sidewalks and streets. It’s simply not a sustainable or safe practice. Must be in conjunction with efforts that lead to sheltering.

Got to check out one of Portland’s most unique transportation systems today, the #BikeBus to @PPSConnect Vernon K-8 organized by the one & only @CoachBalto !! Great music, fun, & exercise for students and parents. Lots of opportunity to connect this to community building too. 🚀👑

Hardesty. Perhaps her official photo would be a place to start. It is unacceptable in todays age where we are working towards racial equity for this type of bias explicit or implicit to exist. I hope to see this paper updated to reflect images that empower and honor all people.

Recent stats show only 19% of Portland Black students in 3rd grade read at grade level. 8th graders were reading at a 6th grade level. This summer the 20 new youth ambassadors to @WordisBondPDX will each receive a copy of the Autobiography of Malcolm X. Lets build some new stats!

We are thrilled to announce our partnership with @Portland_State this summer at the Karl Miller Center. Our ambassadors will be working in state of the art classroom. We have 42 young Black men in paid internships. Who else wants to invest in youth leadership? My line is open. 👑
