Having nixed my Arizona vacation on account of Trump, I'm now in Bermuda. Catching up on the news I see that our Canadian premiers went en masse to the White House. And - am I reading this right? - all they got to see was a staffer?! Good grief. What a humiliation!

Hard to get excited about 4 Nations Cup since it is without the great hockey nation, Russia, which I wrote about in my Soviet hockey history book, "The Red Machine." But the Canada-U.S. game has sure taken on added drama. Let's level the U.S.A..

As head of the Commonwealth you don’t think he should lend his voice for our territorial integrity?

In respect to normal geopolitical developments I agree. Keep silent. But wake up. This not business as usual. It’s the gravest threat to Canada in 200 years.

@LMartinOtt I would absolutely prefer he keep silent on geopolitics, just like his mother absolutely would have. That's the value of the monarchy. And it would help by not making things worse. I can't imagine a less influential voice in the U.S. than the King of England.

@cselley It’s a matter of principle. And his speaking out would attract a lot of attention. You’d prefer he keep silent? How would that help?

Where is Obama, Bush, Clinton? Why aren’t they denouncing Trump’s reprehensible 51st state threats against Canada?

Incredible. He can’t be prosecuted and has his own bootlickers running DOJ so he’s free to break as many laws as he wants.

"Mr. Trump has effectively nullified laws, such as by ordering the Justice Department to refrain from enforcing a ban on the wildly popular app TikTok and by blocking migrants from invoking a statute allowing them to request asylum. He moved to effectively shutter a federal agency Congress created and tried to freeze congressionally approved spending, including most foreign aid. He summarily fired prosecutors, inspectors general and board members of independent agencies in defiance of legal rules against arbitrary removal."

Problem is that if Trump reads too many stories saying that he folded like a wetsuit he's liable to revert back to unhinged bully mode.

Trump can call them concessions but all Trudeau did was throw him a couple add-ons to his already existing border security plan.

CNN's Kaitlin Collins reports that Trump got no new concessions from Trudeau during today's phone call before backing down on imposing his tariffs at this time. She pins down GOP Congressman Warren Davidson on it in an interview. He doesn't really give an answer.

Looks like Trump has backed down in granting Ottawa a 30 day pause on tariffs as well as further negotiations. Ottawa's stiff retaliation plans may have caused a Trump rethink. And maybe the Wall Street Journal telling him how "dumb" his trade war was played a part.

Frank, Pebble Beach needs a serious makeover. Some of those boring inland holes have to be redone, made more scenic, long and challenging. @frank_nobilo
