It’s been over 8yrs since TFSAs were introduced in SA. The TFSA program was officially launched in the 1st of March 2015 as part of National Treasury’s efforts to promote a culture of saving and financial independence among SA citizens.

Don’t forget the dividends….I received dividend payments for every month of 2023 💪🏾.
GLOBAL gave me the most money (R4700); and despite performing -53% this past year, SSW gave me my 2nd highest payday of R1600.

Giving funds to a specialist got me nowhere, but I’m sure there’s plenty of people who go that route. For me it’s been close to 10yrs of self education….books, blogs, seminars, webinars, podcasts etc. consistency is key, I started with a small debit and just kept it going.

Yep! Very frustrating product. But it has its place in almost everyone’s financial plans. You just need to find a lesser evil.
Here is my returns with EE RA….just under 15% in 17 months, same returns I have with Discovery after a whole 8yrs 🥴🫣. The EE RA is purely ETF based.
Does everyone else`s Retirement Annuities grow at anywhere between 0% and official inflation? Serious waste of time to own this stuff

ETFs that invests in stocks over a couple of countries, regions and currencies. So anything that has the word “world” in its name. My favorite is the 10x World ETF (ticker name is GLOBAL). It’s cheap, it includes both developed and emerging markets, and it pays dividends.

I initially overlooked dividend paying ETFs when I made the big switch; I rectified this in the last 2 years. My portfolio now consists of 3 ETFs and will most likely remain as is since this strategy works for me.

Same here! I really learnt a lot from Rich Dad Poor Dad. It was 1 of 3 books that influenced me to get my money affairs in order and start investing. He really should have remained a “one hit wonder” after the book, coz he just went sideways after that. 😬

RA that has returned 18% in 8yrs (just a mere 2.2% pa 😢). I know 17 mnths and 8yrs is a huge difference, but I suspect it’s a fair comparison due to all the fees.
