Very funny some UK Labour people I follow on here being annoyed Labour are being barred from some upcoming pride events. The very first thing the new Labour Health Secretary did was cave to a bunch of transphobes! It makes perfect sense to me.
"As Sweden and Finland have chosen to dispense with their neutrality policies in favour of NATO membership, Ireland too must face up to reality of European security as it is, not as we wish it to be. Despite fierce opposition, the Tánaiste will address the Dáil later this week."
75 years ago today the official Japanese surrender document ending the Second World War is signed. This is one of the most important pieces of paper in human history and New Zealand has to write in our own name because Canada missed their line.
The most New Zealand moment of the 2020 election had to be where John Campbell and Hilary Barry, two of the nation's most preeminent journalists, just got progressively more wasted as they covered the election because everyone knew who won in about the first three seconds.
My MP when I was discovering my sexuality, now Deputy leader of the Nats.
“[homosexuals] are now saying they want to be treated the same as other people. In my view, the sad fact is—although some will find this difficult to take—they are not the same”. - Gerry Brownlee

Your friend who works for the government does not "know" we are going in to Level 3 or 4. I'm your friend who works for the government and I can tell you they haven't told us shit. We elect politicians to make the decisions, we just translate those decisions in to action.

They have an entire sub series that's basically "Fascism bad. Democracy good." And in certain elections the choice is obvious. Fully support what they do.
This house just sold in Wellington for $800,000.
I do not foresee ever owning a house in my life time in the city I live in which is also the only city my industry exists in.
Jacinda is on campus at Vic today.
I do not think that any Prime Minister in our history could have drawn a crowd of students like this.

Why do people think this was bad? It fits entirely with the tone of the franchise. The previous film had Elton John playing himself fighting robot dogs in a 1950s Americana diner deep in the Thai jungle.
The Christchurch Call had noble intentions, but history tells us we should be wary of governments and corporations colluding to decide what information people can and can't see.
He's white, male, rich & Christian. He's also championed gender pay equity and the rainbow community. Environmentalists rate his climate change credentials.
Can a man some thought might join the Labour Party lead National to victory at the next election?
"Those Pride events are controlled by The Greens!"
You don't need to be controlled by The Greens (who are pretty cooked in the UK, I'm not defending them) to see the pretty obvious reason why Pride wouldn't want Labour there.
Jacinda Ardern has put tiny New Zealand on the map in her five years as prime minister, becoming a global icon for left-leaning politics and women in leadership, even as she struggled at home with the economy and COVID restrictions
Can't wait for the Waterloo scene in the Napoleon movie this week so I can stand up in the theatre and declare that You Can't Beat Wellington on a Good Day.
Kīngi Tūheitia VII has met with King Charles III. He presented Charles with a blue and gold tartan representing the colours of the Kiingitanga and the seven waka that carried Māori to New Zealand. Charles was also awarded the highest honour in the Kiingitanga Royal Orders.
One thing I miss about being overseas is "I'm from New Zealand" was niche enough of an icebreaker to make friends or score a date, now I need a personality or looks.
@MardyMillennial
Wasn't really something I was contesting but even our Government didn't make a blatantly transphobic policy announcement on like, day 1 as if it was some sort of major priority for the Government and they've just been waiting to be elected to implement it ASAP.

& French troops prepping for the first foreign guard change at French presidential residence. Impressive adaptation to French commands and flawless parade execution. Monday's event promises grandeur! 🇬🇧🇫🇷
Holy fuck, why are people ripping in to Jacinda over not going to the D Day event? New Zealand did not participate in the invasion as a national force. There were Kiwis in the British forces but that's it! John Key didn't go to the 70th and I don't remember people mad at that...

Ensuring indigenous people always have representation and a voice in the supreme law making body of the state no matter what is something that makes me very proud of my country.
Today I learned the most 1980s New Zealand thing ever. The New Zealand Police used to have some corporately sponsored patrol vehicles in the 1980s. They would display the company name and everything. Nightmare stuff.
People of New Zealand, this is the one time in our lives where we can go to a Queenstown that has not only no foreign tourists, but no Aucklanders either. Take advantage of that.
No, the thin blue line is not a hate symbol. Get your American Twitter takes out of here please. Must every New Zealand issue be looked at through the lens of American culture and politics?
Here's a before and after for
#ComingOutDay
. One thing I think straight people need to understand is that you don't come out once. Every single new group of people you meet, you have to make a conscious decision on whether or not you can come out to them. It never ends. 🏳️🌈🇳🇿🏳️🌈

Niue is Covid free and an Associated state of New Zealand that we partially govern. New South Wales is not Covid free and a part of a foreign country. Really seems like something a Member of the New Zealand Parliament should know but hey that's just my opinion.
Not to sound like a NIMBY but the creeping chain stores on Cuba Street are depressing. Cuba is meant to be weird. Soon the only unique thing about it will be that it's a pedestrianised street.
Covid Alert Level 2 combined with absolutely abysmal Wellington weather has meant I have been able to spend my Saturday lying in bed playing Halo drinking Lift Plus and eating chocolate, something I have not done in years. If that isn't a silver lining, I don't know what is.
I just witnessed a gust of wind blow a civil servant's papers out from under his empty craft beer on a table at a Cuba St pub and in to the water at the bucket fountain.
We have reached peak Wellington people. There is no going back.
So the man that attacked James Shaw was allegedly yelling about the United Nations migration pact. This is what can happen when certain groups blow issues out of proportion and lie to the public about them to score cheap political points.
I have since been informed that it was perhaps only John that was drinking and that Hilary was just on a bit of a sugar rush from jet planes. Equally as Kiwi, much more wholesome.

@GrantGuilford
. NO ONE wants this. Imagine what we could be talking about to make Vic better at this University if you didn't waste time and A LOT of money on this.

I'm asked *a lot* "Why do we we even have a Defence Force?" This is why. It can and does save lives. Seeing an aircraft with a Kiwi painted on it and an arm with a Kiwi patch on it taking them to safety is something these people will never forget for the rest of their lives.
Absolutely devastating, just found out two of my ancestors were convicts transported to Australia who moved to New Zealand after their sentences were completed. It's not the convict part that bothers me, it's that it sort of makes me part Australian. 🤢
The Official Information Act is a pillar of our democracy but unfortunately it also means public servants no longer write like this in official reports.
Every year someone writes this and every year it makes less sense than the last. Our country has this outdated obsession with pacifism, we've never been pacifist and we never should be. I think standing up for what is right in the world unfortunately requires a military.
Opinion: There are plenty of examples of national security that are more appropriate and effective than the military. It’s high time Aotearoa New Zealand considered the alternatives.
Me normally: The benign strategic environment era is over. New Zealand needs to rethink our defence policy and our relationship with the world super powers.

Bro y'all are pretty bad, having you guys in five eyes while you're the friendliest anglo country to China and you won't let us base anything nuclear there
