Here’s my payslip as a first year doctor in 2005, next to a first year doctor colleague’s in 2023. 18 years later, their take home salary is less than mine was. I lived for free in hospital accommodation and had a fraction of their student loan.
#JuniorDoctorsStrike
Thank you to the consultant I worked for in 2005 for replying with HIS monthly salary from when he started work 21 years before me: £576 in 1984. He worked far more hours than I did, but over 20 years, the full time salary for a first year hospital doctor still increased 4-fold.
@JohnBoy117
The change away from the banding system (out of hours supplements) allows the ‘basic’ salary to go up on paper every year, while the take home pay goes down. We are told we are getting a payrise whilst being paid less, making it look difficult to compare by the system change.
Thanks

I don’t understand the question? We all start work in August so all of our payslips list the next August as our next increment date. My payslip from 2005 lists my increment date as 020806 at the top - it’s the anniversary of when we started working.
PhD success! Relieved after 4yrs& pandemic chaos. Huge thanks to my support team: my 6 supervisors, 2 examiners, the fantastic

Obesity is acknowledged to be the No.2 cause of cancer after smoking. It's hard to stop smoking but we still advise it & offer support - we don't use failure rates to conclude that stopping is unachievable. It's important to provide honest facts surrounding cancer risk reduction.

your negative attitude is the unnecessary and insulting question. There is no question that babies need to feed very regularly and there is no question that it is harder when they become distressed with their head covered. Do you eat with a cloth over your head? Then stop asking.

The take was great thanks - happy patients, great training, consultant available at all times... in person or by phone, depending on the level of support required. Similar to most of my surgical on calls in recent times in fact, irrespective of team gender, as it should be 😁

Sometimes patients call out "nurse" as I walk past, usually in areas where doctors & nurses both wear scrubs. I explain I'm a surgeon and see what they need and if I can't help, I find a nurse. The rest of the time I clearly introduce myself and my role and it's not a problem.
I liked this video a lot, especially with people asking "what can I do?" This is so important- the way people react when no-one in the room is black. It sets the standard for what is acceptable to others, & shapes future behaviour.

Such a bizarre product. I get up, shower, get dressed, and either go to work or look after my children, and presumed most other people did something similar. Who is this product aimed at- people hoping to to spend all day painting their bodies in exchange for living their life?
