A flash of color in the treetops! 🍒✨ The summer tanager (Piranga rubra) is a striking bird known for its brilliant coloration and melodic song. Males sport a vivid red plumage, while females (like this one) and juveniles wear a golden-yellow hue. This species breeds in North America and migrates south to spend the winter in Central and South America, including Guatemala. As expert insect hunters, summer tanagers love feasting on bees and wasps, skillfully catching them mid-air and even rubbing them against branches to remove the stinger before eating! 🐝🦜 If you hear a sweet, whistling song in the forest, look up—you might spot this fiery traveler resting in the canopy! 🌿🔭 ¡Un destello colorido entre las copas de los árboles! 🍒✨ La tángara roja migratoria (Piranga rubra) es un ave llamativa, conocida por su color vibrante y su canto melódico. Los machos lucen un plumaje rojo intenso, mientras que las hembras (como esta) y los juveniles son de un tono amarillo dorado. Esta especie se reproduce en América del Norte y migra hacia el sur para pasar el invierno en Centro y Sudamérica, incluyendo Guatemala.
