While styding GLOF project report of UNDP in Chitral, I came across the heartening fact that 20 of the glaciers have turned into dangerous lakes. Every year, the lakes brust out and turn into GLOFs, damaging the livelihood & infrastructure of the people living downstream.
With Pakistan boasting 7,253 known glaciers, including 543 in the Chitral Valley, it holds more glacial ice than any other region on Earth, excluding the polar areas.

Read this book back in 2013. It also contain two pages about my late grand-father Khadim Dastagir, who participated as a commander of Chitral Scout in the War of 1948.
A friend travelled 8 hours all the way from Chitral just to gift me this book that I had casually mentioned to him a week back. Refused to take any money for it. Went back the next morning.
Our mountains are huge but our people’s hearts are even bigger.
