Bomb Gaza into rubble and kill scores of kids. Tragic, but perfect acceptable. Interrupting business as usual at malls ahead of Christmas. Horrific, how could protestors possibly do this to children? Who has no moral compass again? Some have lost the plot.

@OPALamothe @OPApresident You do realize that cops investigate, arrest, charge & detain people for a living? That’s exclusion work. Some of those people cops criminalize are parents of school kids. Some kids are criminalized themselves. They may not see police classroom visits as an educative experience.

News release says Ontario Police College currently runs 3 cohorts per year of 480 officers through this $15,450 course, so my math says that’s $22 million/yr in free tuition. News release also says in 2024 it will expand to 4 cohorts/yr of 550 officers each, so that’s $34 M/yr.

There's still a #PrisonPandemic . As of 25 May 2021 there were at least 8,522 #COVID19 cases (6,150 prisoners | 1,983 staff | 6 contractors | 383 unspecified) linked to Canadian prisons. Close to 500 new cases in May so far. #ContainCovidNotPeople

@_MarkSutcliffe How about stopping the public-private-partnership gravy train at #OttCity hall? How about investing upstream in preventing violence instead of retrofitting shopping mall space for a cop shop in the market and building a new $200M cop campus in Barrhaven? Could go on and on...

It's been said before & bears repeating again: problematizing over-representation implies there can be an appropriate level of representation. So what would be an 'appropriate' level of criminalization & incarceration of BIPOC by our colonial & racist punitive injustice system?

@JLoweYSB @ysb_bsj 1/2 I don't think homeless youth in #OttCity are camping out with a gas fireplace coffee table tonight. Non-profits really need to avoid cosplay. The ends don't justify voyeuristic means.

Abolition is a commitment to collective action in the struggle towards liberation for all. It is also a struggle to abolish things within ourselves. It is hard, but necessary work. We can get there.

@DavidColetto @_MarkSutcliffe @cmckenney 5/ ...but that Mark literally tied calls to #DefundOPS to "some activist organizations". Well Mark, have you talked to survivors of police violence? Have you met with parents who have lost children to police killings in #ottcity , including ones calling for defunding?

Ontario Govt just announced it has $ to expand its capacity to imprison people in the midst of calls 4 racial justice & at a time when it won't dedicate significant funds to reduce class sizes, yet not a single reporter made the connections or asked a Q about the logic of this🤦‍♂️

1/3 If you could borrow $1.2 billion over 30 years 2 enhance community well-being & safety in your region, would you blow it on designing, building, financing & maintaining a prison at the rate of $40M/year, $109,589/day, $4,566/hour, $76/minute, $1.30/second like @fordnation is?

In even the most conservative-taught criminology courses at universities you'll have readings & lecture material on police de-escalation. Meanwhile university admin are promising or unleashing suspensions, expulsions & calling cops on their students protesting genocide.

@M_Johnston1 @uOttawa pulled out of @FierteCapPride ? This would be news 2 me & probably most in our uni's community. Is this true @recteurUOpres ? Would our uni's admin really choose 2 divest from & boycott Pride in #OttCity while not choosing 2 divest from & boycott genocide of Palestinians?

Spread the word... We won't stop fighting the Kemptville prison, whether in court or outside of it, until the Ford government drops its ill-conceived & costly plan to demo farm buildings + pave over prime agricultural land that also includes a creek & floodplain.
