@doctimcook @hellmann_von @NicholasChrimes @AirwayMxAcademy @VirtueOfNothing @jducanto @julesantosER @anapaulafreitas @lowebrad @aprfreitas @alexffuchs I think one of the interesting findings in the BEAM trial is that in Grade 2 airways a bougie increased the FPS from 66% to 97%. They didn’t break the cohorts down into 2A and 2B, but based on clinical experience I would imagine most of the Grade 2s were probably 2As.

Makes you wonder, aside from cost, which granted is not a trivial issue, whether there are any legitimate arguments for not using a videolaryngoscope routinely when a rigid laryngoscope is indicated for intubation
VL vs DL & SKILL FADE. A thread Was pondering skill decay VL & DL I don’t think we have any evidence one way or the other It may occur If so does this this matter? A few thoughts @VirtueOfNothing @Fionafionakel @NicholasChrimes 1/n

@DrMikeAziz @NicholasChrimes @armyemdoc Yes, that study only included patients intubated with the GlideScope HA VL. My guess is that evaluation of the GlideScope Mac VL would result in similar findings.

@a_marcottee If I had a patient in a CICO situation and cricothyrotomy was not an option or unsuccessful I would most certainly attempt to access the airway with a tracheotomy

@AirwayLegend @pacheco_garrett Of course. The most commonly VL used in our ED is a Mac VL, which allows operators the option of doing DL or VL.

@AirwayLegend VL can’t prevent all esophageal intubations, but can significantly reduce their occurrence (50% reduction)
