A little bit of of mixed emotions tonight, went to visit a friend this evening who is in his final days at home, we had a great chat and shared memories and jokes. Said my goodbyes and told him I'd see him on the other side, there'll be whiskey galore 🥃🥃.

Just back from Geashill from casting my vote before I start back into the slurry, first time in my voting life that
@FineGael
got zero votes from me , not one either local or Europe. Absolutely appalled with their carry on😡
8th of June. 36 years ago Eveleen, my present wife, and I tied the knot in Cootehill Presbyterian Church. A scorcher of a day, the sun split the stones 🌞🌞, it's warming up today too. Heres to the next 36 years👍
We hired this cherry picker for a couple of days for a few maintenance jobs, replace some shed gutters etc. Electrican here today too, ideal for the high up jobs. It's 4 wheel drive, 4 wheel steer and 50ft reach, some yoke and safe.
@IrishRainforest
That's a cover crop that fixes nitrogen and provides green manure for the following crop, stop your misinformation and scare mongering 😕

Lawn clippings are dynamite to any grazing animals, let them be equine, bovine or ovine. Apart for huge risk of colic also disease risks to pregnant animals from fecal droppings of cats, dogs or foxes scooped up by lawnmowers . Lawn clippings aren't just grass they're dangerous.
When I fitted the the dynamo today I was a little apprehensive, would it start, would the clutch be seized, would the gears engage? I was a bit jerky, takes a bit to remember nó power steering or foot throttle, first drive👍
38 years ago 8/6/1984 Eveleen my present wife and I tied the knot in Cootehill Presbyterian Church and reception in The White Horse hotel, wowser, 38 years❤️ and 50 years ago June 1972 I left school and been working at the best job, farming ever since 💪
Am I odd or something to be shocked about the murder of that young teacher in France? Beheaded because he showed some cartoons! No frenzy of outrage, no rioting or looting, no taking the knee, no signs in shop windows, in fact no nothing!! More concern about Fungi!! Ffs😦😡
A little vid of me coming down High Street Tullamore yesterday 28/12 /22 on the return from the tractor run, rain had stopped, real tractoring! No sprung cab, air seat, heater or a buddy seat for the WAGs🤣
Was moving the wire for the cows and calves this morning, scores and scores of swallows darting about having their grub. Have a look
@think_or_swim
, you won't see this on motorway tarmac👀.
Went to church in Geashill this morning on the Nuffield, beautiful morning for a little run and everything worked flawlessly, sort of on a wing and a prayer 😉🙏
Have heard a lot of people both in the print media and Sm moan about beef cattle coming from the dairy herd as if it was something new. Well these are from dairy herds, any problems!
A huge amount of the national beef herd have always and will always come from the dairy herd.
Earlier today I was travelling on a narrow one vehicle road with a tractor and trailer, observed a runner meeting me. Slowed to a crawl, moved over as far as possible and gave him a wave, it is the season of peace and goodwill. never looked up, why are runners grumpy pr**ks?🏃♂️😧
A little bit sad, we had to say goodbye to Lulu this morning, her quality of life went downhill rapidly, couldn't stand up and appetite gone and other issues. We got her as a pup from dog pond 16 years ago and with us ever since.
Home from having a MRI on my head this morning in the Hermitage and see my neurosurgeon after. All good and stable and doesn't need to see me for 3 years, he confirmed from the scan I still have a brain too 🤣
Eveleen (my present wife) and I are 40 years married today 8th June so we are having a bit of a lazy day . Went to Geashill with Chloe, Adam and Lucy and had morning coffee in Hamiltons, went for a walk on the Glebe walk.
Wild life we lead🤣
Well the gate is a bit better than it was, still a little bit of straightening to do and make a hasp. Had to do a bit of old school heating and hammering in places. The fellas that made these gates were mighty men. 🦾

Not very long ago there was direct contact between people and livestock, every town had slaughter houses, dairy herds suppliers. Dublin had its cattle market, meat factories in Grand canal street and Ballymun. Now most people would die if they saw a hen shite
This morning went for a load of bales with the Tele and trailer, turning right into field with indicator on, ready to swing in and checked mirror, car behind just flew by. I dispair for the human race, I genuinely do. 😲
This bridge and gateway was completely overgrown and blocked, can be put to use now. I finally got the gate rehung and put a coat of black primer on, looks a bit better than when it came off I suppose. One pier is leaning off a bit so a chain will secure.
An old cabinet that lay unloved for years returned today. I removed about 8 layers of paint and removed the shelves but knew it needed further work. Andrew Whittaker from Killeigh who restores furniture did an excellent job, very pleased with it. 👍😊
Everyone chill, this " heatwave" is to stay today and tomorrow, this is not death Valley California. Rain, heavy showers to move in on Monday, predicted heavy showers with spot flooding in places. So maybe instead of shouting worlds end go check gullies and drains, more practical
A drugged up little bollicks stabbed a defenseless woman in the neck with a serrated knife, a jury fails to reach a verdict after 8 hours deliberations! A sadist who abused and murdered a woman wins an appeal in ECJ on his data rights! Is there no concept of good and evil? 😡
Our MF 4345, 20 years old, 2 sets of tyres, 2 clutches, 1 back window, 1 front grill and headlights, 4 cab lights replaced with LEDs and 1 new seat. Apart from that pretty much original, not bad for a working tractor, a classic at this stage, a keeper till vintage 🚜⚒️😉
Some of the Blade calves enjoying the early spring, grazing some grass covers before we spread slurry. Yes they are Dairy beef, yes they will go on to produce top quality beef, ok no U,s here but quality beef nevertheless.
@LeoForde
Am I right in thinking that once upon a time property and stuff was making silly money until banks with funny names in the states went bust, Fanny may or something like that was one. Then everything crashed and houses were worth nothing, negative equity or did I dream that🤔
Start of the barley harvest, Geraldine spring barley sown 8th April. Badly broken over but lucky enough it happened halfway down the stem, should be able to get under most of it.
#harvest23
I've just watched the news on TV, awful awful scenes. They're digging trenches in Kyiv, this sort of shit shouldn't be happening in Europe in 2022😡
War is hell.
Today we had a photographer taking photos and video of Ballyaville Neilson, our entry in the
@IrishHereford
Premier sale in Tullamore on Saturday 27th March, Lot 17. A testament to the docility of Hereford cattle is evident by flying a drone up close and no remarks paid.

Definitely something going on with all the anti farming bias out there. The trouble is now that the vast majority of people are completely removed from how their food is produced, they haven't a clue.
Fecking coffee cups😡 these are just 2 of many along a short stretch of our road. I hate these bastardering hooring bloody coffee cups, I hate them!!! Bring on charging for them same as the shopping bags, problem solved overnight.
I see some anti Ag people on here now using the term that Ireland is a " desert of grass" 😨 Lads this whole climate change debate is getting silly, where's my hat? 🏃🏃
New bull Castledaly Jack having a bit of breakfast, quiet as a lamb change of surroundings didn't take a flitter out of him. Be even happier when he's with a few heifers!
7th lactation cow calved unassisted this am, bull calf by HE2043. Hassle free calving, no vets or c-section or mad yokes ya can't go near and plenty of milk. Oh wait they might not qualify as "quality" !!! 🤔
Well I finally got to pull the Nuffield into ICU for some remedial work, lot of spannering ahead. No doubt plenty of Fs and Bs and Cs will echo about but will report progress. First job, bonnet off, diesel tank off, Bell housing off, then I'll scratch my head🤔
Twitter is full of snow pics and blocked roads, despite this the show goes on. Always nice to see new life and what better than a Hereford. # herefords
Got a demo of this, handy timing for cutting the Oats. Chopping the straw because it's so rare, never be got in this broken weather. Some machine, 20ft cut 6 walker.
Had a nice day in Ballyfin, well run and lovely weather. Good to chat with other vintage heads and many Nuffield nerds, exchanged ideas and tips. The icing on the cake was winning best tractor 2022.
Happy New year everyone. 40 years ago tonight Eveleen my present wife and I met for the first time and we've been together ever since😍❤️ not bad going eh ⌚
12 year old SIxHE cow with her 10th calf, heifer by SH4748, born unassisted 280 days gestation, 41kg BW.
Would the calf pass in the current roan craze? Or is that just for " quality" continentals🤔🙄

Similar to the electronic voting machines, great in theory but a flop in practice. Another waste of money, people who were diligent in recycling are paying twice now, won't make any difference to litter louts ,they'll keep firing them out the window anyway.
Rowing up the hay, these 2 paddocks were grazed tight in the spring, got no fertiliser, got too strong for grazing. Heaviest crop of hay in my lifetime, I reckon 15-16 4x4 bales per acre maybe more, we'll see later.
Lovely morning here so when I got the jobs done I took the Nuffield for a little spin. Went to Geashill and back, most I've ventured so far and delighted that the old girl performed flawlessly👍 I know the road to Geashill is bumpy but jeepers I know them intimately now😁
Ágh lads!
@farmersjournal
arrived in the post, opened it up at dinnertime and what appears? Farmers with forks😡 back in the day we used to fork hay into racks and pulp turnips into mangers but this is almost 2024!
Ag media, get real!
Great column as always from
@PottertonGerald
in this weeks
@farmersjournal
about the spin from politicians, he reflects what most of us think of them. His comparison of them was classic :
More spin than a grey Fergie escaping with the last load of turf out of a rewetted bog 👍🤣
Well damn and blast and blast it again! I have fallen to the rona, only a matter of time I suppose, a week since a family member got it. I fended it off gallantly with copious amount of whiskey but eventually was overrun, I feel rougher than a lizards back😷🥵
Just been thinking that since the lock down the following have disappeared from the daily news: gangland shootings, A&E numbers, trolley numbers, Dublin housing crises and rental prices, Hollywood luvvies and experts on climate change, Greata thunderbox and Mary Lou 🤔🤔
We read our annual herd TB test today, all clear and everything went smoothly without a hitch on both days. Herd tests are always a worry, with the amount of herds locked up and the risks of putting the whole herd through the crush twice. Lads, there has to be a better way?
Can anyone explain to me how this is supposed to be good for the environment? We planted miscanthus in 2008 and like many others it was to supply Edenderry power. We managed to get away a poor crop for 2 years, couldn't tip it, had to be moving floor trailers. 1/2
Saw my hip man on Wednesday, all good. Got rid of the white stockings woo hoo👍, go ahead to drive and ease back into work over next 6 weeks, no stupid stuff. Put this engine crane together this morning, handy tool for lifting awkward things and doing a bit on the Nuffield
A Happy and restful Christmas to everyone on here both near and far. Very different Christmas everywhere this year but remember the first Christmas happened in a stable

Hides in the long grass for awhile, then will come back as a media consultant advising some Government departments, what ya bet? Stranger things have happened!
Would you buy a secondhand car from this person?
Plastic drinking troughs are great in theory but a big disappointment in practice. This bunch pucked it over last night so I replaced it with a 150gl bottom fill concrete one. Fine big bung for emptying too in the end, they won't puck this moma over anyway 😉
We sowed Dawsum Winter wheat this morning, not perfect but better than I thought it would be. Ploughed it Thursday and all set to sow yesterday but ground frozen hard as concrete. This will test the theory that wheat can be mucked in 🤔
Today I had the Nuffield in church! Well parked inside the gate anyway, we had our harvest thanksgiving today and it was my effort at harvest decoration. Jute Sacks of barley, bucket of beans and a couple of miny oat sheaves. Nice service and good to see Rev Fran among us.
Yesterday the new North runway in Dublin Airport was opened with great fanfare, I'm curious about 2 things:
Why is it so welcomed and deemed good but farmers producing food are deemed bad?
A fairly straightforward engineering job cost €320 million, that's a lot of dosh?
Much credit has to go to everyone who carries out their work quietly, often unnoticed or appreciated with no fuss or bother and no wokeness or influencing needed. They are the hewers of wood and drawers of water so to speak. They keep the cogs of life turning. 👍🤔
This is a patch that we levelled and scattered wild flower seeds last spring, the bees love them. Great idea for corners and margins, will do more of it in future.
Having my after church whiskey, I've probably said it before but I think a glass of whiskey after church has the power of the 4 or 5 regular ones, mighty stuff. 🥃
