Regarding JKIA we should have invited a strategic investor who is an airport operator, sell them 25% shares, list 25%shares on NSE to raise funds to modernise the airport and thereafter issue a Corporate BOND for any additional funds required. This model has been used and works.

Central Bank of Kenya wanted to raise Kshs 75 billion. The market offered Kshs 151 billion. This shows that there is a lot of money not being invested. This is a sad situation. It reflects delayed investments. Is political uncertainty to blame?

The Nairobi Securities Exchange should takeover the CDSC and drop these proposed fees.We need to continue to reduce the costs of trading securities on the exchange. In our small market the CDSC should be the BACKOFFICE of the Trading Floor.

Nairobi Stock Exchange should hold a crisis meeting to determine which companies should be suspended from listing until they can prove that they are viable. Serena hotels and others have closed and we have no idea whether they will open again or not. Let’s save investors agony.

The government should release strategic grains reserves into the market at a very low price of say Kshs 500 per bag. This should help to bring down the price of unga, to about Kshs 30 per packet. Unemployed people ,due to lockup ,can benefit enormously. What do you think?

The Central Bank of Kenya should reduce the current cash ratio from 4.5% to 0%This would result in increased liquidity within banks with reduced cost of credit.Banks would increase lending to private sector with lower interest rates.Threat of inflation is not a concern for now.

I still think this country would be better served by a vibrant, broad based National , Economic and Social Council, (NESC) like the one which existed during the time of late President Mwai Kibaki and Hon Raila Odinga. That council helped the country to create Vision 2030.

Commercial banks in Kenya should be encouraged to issue script dividend instead of cash dividend.Those shareholders who need cash would sell their shares or script on Nairobi Securities Exchange.That way banks retain their cash while shareholders get the cash. A win win for all.

Safaricom should appoint the BEST person to be its Chief Executive Officer irrespective of whether he is a Kenyan or not. Meritocracy should be the guiding principle. United Kingdom has a Central Bank Governor from Canada. Israel had an American as Governor of its Central Bank.

I proposed in 2009 that we convert NCPB into a warehouse corporation where maize farmers can store their grains.NCPB to issue warehouse receipts.Then create a commodities exchange where these warehouse receipts can be traded in the secondary market. Problem solved.

The Govt should issue an infrastructure bond named ‘Hospitality Bond’.The funds from the bond would be used to ‘BUY & LEASEBACK’ assets of distressed hotels.On completion of payment of leases the assets would revert to the owners of the hotels thereby saving them and many jobs.
