After years of jumping through hoops, from med school and all the way through Foundation training, tomorrow I can FINALLY call myself a Psychiatry trainee and start the journey to becoming a Psychiatrist - something I’ve wanted to do for sooo long! The excitement is unreal 🥳🎉🙌🏽

Can you IMAGINE this happening in the UK? Because in my small number of years in the NHS I’ve never once heard of anybody being able to rearrange their shifts like this, especially over Christmas, simply because of they have a life outside of work.

I don’t know what I’d do without my dad. Every time I drive up north to see my parents he gives my car a wash, whatever the weather, and fills the petrol tank up (despite my protests).

All I’m saying is the one and only year I managed to get a Glastonbury ticket (2019), I couldn’t go because I wasn’t able to swap out of a singular weekend on call shift, and the hospital I worked at refused to find locum cover despite months of pleading from my side 🙃💔

Nearing the end of CT1. 12 continuous months on general inpatient wards at hospitals which are desperately understaffed at every level. The burn out is so real, I’ve never thought about quitting as frequently/consistently as I have over the last few weeks. A lot needs to change.

Day 2 of CT1 - horrified to learn that I won’t be getting a new smart card and will in fact have to rock the rubbed-on bald patch for the forseeable future.
At least my new ID badge comes with a full head of hair (we’ll see which one I look more like when I get to CCT…)

I make sure that ALL of my patients know that I am NOT a consultant psychiatrist.
I ALWAYS tell them “I’m one of the junior doctors, I am not a consultant but if there is something I can’t do/shed light on, I will ask my consultant colleague”
It’s really that simple.

I am so sorry you experienced this, my heart breaks for you. I remember losing 5 patients in one night shift with one of them looking me in the eye and saying “I don’t want to die” shortly before he crashed. I was later told he passed when the day team came on. I cried a lot.

Having spent almost 3 years on wards, battling for a computer/chair all day every day just to do some work, moving to a non-clinical job for 3 months where I get my own chair, computer and OFFICE is mind-blowing! Which is actually pretty sad when you think about it..🥴

, obtained a place on the Barts post-graduate Medical degree and am now living my dream of being a doctor (only 3 years behind my original plan and SO much happier for it!)

I had a stalker during medical school, which thankfully the med school and police took really seriously. Anyway I just found all the evidence I collated together (mainly online stuff) and man it is disturbing. Forever grateful that I was taken seriously when so many others aren’t

I’m February I started my OOPC with the intention of leaving the NHS and life as a doctor altogether. I was burnt out, frustrated with the systems and lack of funding, and struggling to see a future career for me within the NHS that would make me feel fulfilled and valued.

I’ve been revising for medical exams endlessly since 2014 and I cannot, for the life of me, retain neuroanatomy.
Can anyone recommend methods/resources/guides to help retain this stuff?
(I’m a very visual person with dyslexia who has just started revision for MRCPsych Paper A)
