RM Lance Corporal Matt Croucher’s George Cross and the remains of his day sack. In 2008 he threw himself and his bag on top of an explosive device in Helmand, Afghanistan - saving the lives of many. He survived the blast and is one of only 22 living recipients to receive the GC.
Sgt Ian McKay’s Victoria Cross, medals, Parachute Regiment Badge and Wings. Killed in action on Mount Longdon in June 1982 when he charged the enemy.

Remembering all who fought at Wireless Ridge 13/14 June 1982. One of the last strategic hills within 5 miles of Stanley. Three men from 2PARA were killed and eight were wounded. The Argentine force surrendered on 14th (photos Nov 2022).
Surgeon-Commander Rick Jolly’s beret on display in the Historic Dockyard Museum in Stanley. He was the only person to be decorated by both Britain and Argentina for his distinguished conduct in 1982.

The Royal Tank Regiment memorial statue in Whitehall. It depicts the crew of a WW2 Comet tank. The sculpture was unveiled by Her Late Majesty The Queen in 2000, as Colonel-in-Chief of the RTR.

The resting place of 19-year-old Private Emile Corteil at Ranville Cemetery, Normandy with his “para dog” Glen. They landed safely but both died on 6th June 1944. Para dogs were trained by 6th Airborne Division for guard, patrol and mine detecting duties.

Remembering Lieutenant Dick Nunn DFC RM 3Cdo Brigade Air Squadron. He died 41 years ago trying to evacuate casualties from Goose Green. His Scout helicopter came under attack from an Argentine Pucara. His co-pilot Bill Belcher was seriously injured.

Tomb of Corporal Sidney Bates VC aged 23 in Bayeux War Cemetery. His battalion landed in Normandy on 6th June 1944 as part of Operation Overlord. He was killed near Viessoix in August 1944 charging the enemy.
The Stanley Hollis VC memorial hut in Normandy. On 6th June 1944 the 6th Battalion of The Green Howards landed. CSM Hollis attacked the German pillbox & later rescued comrades in Crépon. He was the only British soldier to be awarded the Victoria Cross on DDay.

Today is Margaret Thatcher Day in the Falkland Islands. The bronze bust of her on “Thatcher Drive” in Stanley was unveiled in 2015 to commemorate her life and role in the Falklands conflict.

Memorial to The Commando Logistic Regiment RM at Ajax Bay. A former mutton refrigeration plant - used in 1982 as a field hospital & ammunition store. It was also the temporary burial place for over 40 British men, and where POWs were held.

The original map of the Falkland Islands Lt Col Ewen Southby-Tailyour used to advise on landing locations in 1982. The keen yachtsman had previously charted the waters in the late 70s while posted there. His knowledge of inlets, tides, beaches, & kelp was invaluable.

WW2 RAF flying boots. A small knife was concealed in the lining, enabling men to cut off the top part of the boot to resemble a civilian shoe if shot down in hostile territory. A jacket button also contained a hidden compass.

Here’s one of the films we made on our trip to the Falklands last month. We took a former Royal Marine who was 17 in 1982 back to where he’d landed, Ajax Bay and other battlefields.
Memorial in Falmouth to those who took part in Operation Chariot in March 1942. A successful British amphibious attack on the dry dock of St Nazaire in German-occupied France. Of the 622 who set sail, 168 were killed and 5 Victoria Crosses were awarded.
My teenage twins are back from Pirbright - their first CCF camp. With a couple of bags of wet clothes too! 😂 Seems to have gone very well.. lots of camouflage and concealment, stalking … making a bivvy and cooking/ eating rations out of mess tins.

My first coin with the effigy of HM King Charles III. The reverse features a design that originally appeared on the 1953 Coronation Crown. Includes 4 quarters of the Royal Arms within a shield. In between an emblem of the home nations: a rose, thistle, shamrock and a leek.
