USCE is required for most international residency applicants. How are they to get these experiences if there is no provision? Ideally we should review applications based on credentials and experiences in their home country, and provide a plan for transition during internship!

It is unfair that IMGs are having to take Step 3, as almost a requirement. This is a medical licensing exam that should never have been a factor in the match. Programs should discourage such practice and evaluate the same way they evaluate other non IMG candidates.
The competitive nature of the US Residency system does not justify resorting to dishonesty during exams. Unfortunately, some individuals choose to circumvent the system, using improper means that have resulted in chaos.

Two edged sword: USCE needed, found USCE, visa rejected! Why would any graduate or medical student jeapordize their future by misusing the B1/B2. There needs to be some logic to the rejection not just a “gut feeling”

Today we lost a great person unexpectedly. She was compassionate and committed to making lives better for others. Such untimely losses give us pause to reflect. Today do a good deed to make someone’s life better in memory of Dr Hamidah Hussain!
Something that

It’s unreal how IMGs have to prove themselves despite the hard work and the gaps they fill in the US healthcare system

Flu vaccine is 35% effective. Moderna and Pfizer vaccines are 95% effective. This vaccine is as good as it gets! Mortality rate of flu is 1:1000. Mortality rate of covid is 1:75. This virus is the worst the human race has encountered.

Common Problems : don’t justify your interest in medical school. Make a strong case about why you are a great fit for the specialty.

Who feels well-prepared for taking care of the rapidly growing older population? the number of Americans aged 65+ is projected to jump from 46 million today to over 98 million by 2060, and the 65+ age group’s share of the total population will rise to nearly 24%.

When caregivers/parents/guardians make decisions that harm vulnerable people such as those who are disabled and children, we call it “neglect”. Don’t neglect the vulnerable . Make the right decisions for them. That is your responsibility!

LOI should be very specific when before the interview. Do your homework and ask intelligent questions based on a specific query that you may have. Generic LOI will not add value to your application.

I suggest that if it is “paid” it’s should be standardized with a standardized evaluation form. There is a lot we can learn by observing but most current experiences are sub par.
@SadiqNaveed
Be careful disclosing information that will raise questions about you fitting into the program. If you chose to talk about your personal experience with illness, show this as an asset rather than a source of vulnerability
@SadiqNaveed
Discuss your vision of your future if you have one.
Don’t dedicate a whole para on why you chose the specialty. Leave some room for talk about your current interest and future aspirations, in residency and beyond.
How did your past experience affected your future career decision
