Some personal news: after four sensational years at The Sunday Telegraph, I will join the New York Post (

I’ve covered the drought in Batlow NSW, so reporting on the Big Apple should be sweet.
@SquigglyRick
What I’m confused about is: what couple who collectively earn less than $200k a year have already bought a home and have another $150k ready to spend on renos over and above mortgage repayments? Certainly not first home owners.
Thousands of pro-Palestine protesters who rallied at the New York Public Library marched to the New York Times office. Protesters are occupying the NYT lobby, claiming the paper “is an agent of US imperialism”.

The whole time I’ve been covering the drought, there’s been a faint optimism it will rain and the problem will go away. Now there’s a timeline for when rivers, dams could completely run dry - and it’s in as little as seven weeks. The optimism’s gone.
They couldn’t see or breathe, the fire was so furious it melted their truck and the water from their hoses evaporated before it hit the flames, but firefighters from Bonville on the mid-north coast never gave up.

Protesters have smashed the back window of a NYPD cruise parked outside the New York Times and spray painted “FREE GAZA” on the side.
They are chanting “Fuck New York Times”, “tell the truth”, “blood on your hands”, and “Israel, go to hell”.

The last remaining protesters who refuse to leave the Sydney

The drought has hit the beach. Bellingen and Urunga has three weeks worth of flowing water left, Taree has less than three months, Batemans Bay has between 6-12 months left, Port Macquarie less than a year... Coastal capitals to drink desal and bore water.
The protest disbanded after three hours at 6pm. Asked why the anger towards the New York Times, protesters said the paper is betraying its “mainstream liberal readers” by “printing the propagandised narrative put out by the Israeli state”.
