Seek Up, by @davematthewsbnd. An old school #60secondsofdmb. The lyrics could have been written about the last few weeks instead of 32 years ago. Every day things change, but basically they stay the same.

#wouldyouliketoplay Halloween, by @davematthewsbnd? It’s a song for all skill levels, and is all about staying tight with your pick hand and bringing a lot of energy without letting the whole thing fall apart. Thanks for watching! #60secondsofdmb

@greathouse76185 @davematthewsbnd Same same, if it weren’t for you all I’d be long gone too, this place is a dumpster fire but we seem to have a nice little oasis going here.

@NickMyers55 @davematthewsbnd Or why’d we pick this guy to try to emulate? Could’ve learned every John Mellencamp song in an afternoon, but no, had to spend years figuring out songs like YNK instead 🙃

@mjrust @davematthewsbnd Great point, thanks Rusty - I’ve got to figure out how to talk about strumming. I don’t even have good language for it. I figure out strumming almost entirely by ear rather than studying notation… I’ll marinate on your suggestion and see what I can come up with.

@dresher_bc @davematthewsbnd The struggle is real! The intro chords are A minor, B minor, E minor, and D (add 11) - you could try the standard shapes for those first three chords, and still play the last one just like I showed because it isn’t a big stretch.

@JonKevinC @davematthewsbnd Yes! Same idea, they sound “right” to us because in a normal tuning the open sixth string is the same note exactly one octave lower than the seventh fret of the fifth string. It’s why things like the main riff of Minarets or the first chord of Rye Whiskey sound so good.

@EddieTheCommish @davematthewsbnd I will happily accept any and all comparisons to Carter, no references or bibliography required! 😎

@brendansshaw @davematthewsbnd Absolutely. I do try it the right way now and then, but it always hurts and sounds noticeably worse whenever I do, so I stick with the mere mortal hand positions most of the time.
