Q: "Who takes a laptop with their most personal information drops it off at a repair shop and never comes back for it?"
A: A drug addict. Someone who's life is wildly out of control. Someone who has huge amounts of disposable cash that doesn't consider the laptop of value.

Once the vacuum is activated the water will rise In the pipe/tube until the height of the liquid exerts a force equal to the differential pressure between the atmosphere and vacuum source.
Assuming perfect vacuum and the liquid is water, the height will be ~34ft.

Once he takes an interest. . . he assembles a capable team to systematically break down the issues into solvable problems.

Fill 5 Liter bucket
Pour the 5 L bucket into the 3 L bucket.
Stop when 3 L is full. 5 L bucket contains only 2 L.
Empty 3 L bucket.
Pour remaining 2 L into the 3 L bucket.
Refill 5 L bucket, then pour out just enough to fill the 3L.
4 L remains in 5 L bucket.

Kiddo is out on a quarantine because ‘not vaxxed’…pay no attention to the fact the current variant doesn’t care about the vax, and the kid has already had the virus.

Refinery investments even small projects
can cost 10's of millions of $$$
can take 1-2 year to implement
and generally in breakeven 7-10 years
An investment now generally cannot meet immediate needs, and future ones may not be there.
@kate_freedomer
Most generic meds are manufactured in India and China.
There was a period of time in mid 2020 where it looked like it might change, though I don't think it materialized.

Would be interesting to see a Life Cycle Analysis:
Battery Production + Coal Electricity + Car + Disposal
vs
Gasoline Production + Car + Disposal
Emission control at the power plant should be better than at the tailpipe because of economies of scale.

@SchwartzChron
Start small scale. . . new construction should include buried utilities.
Then go block by block.
Houston 'soil' is likely some of the easiest material to burrow through.

I have it on good authority that if you just write down difficult to fact check data, people will inherently believe it because they want to. . . or they're lazy.
It looks the same.

The cyclist's well being is fully dependent on dog walker's patience and self discipline.
Risky because you never know who just doesn't give a sh!t.

That's 'Win-Win'. . .
I anticipate that employee drift toward being non-smokers.
In the US companies would win by having healthier employees and not having to pay increased health insurance claims.

Of water...
It's because you depend on atmospheric pressure which is not super high.
Engineering solutions to move water into a tower use a pump that can go to much higher pressures.
Mr Wizard had a good demonstration on this in late 80s.

Americans don’t invest for a 200 year storm.
They could but they don’t.
This is not Green vs Natural Gas vs Nuclear... This is about the <1% of the time you need the capability.

What an inefficient methodology.
Engineers and other humans must learn just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should.
@stillgray
Running with a mask is not recommended.
Though there is a non-zero number of runners that collapse at the finish line in the base case: (prior to mask wearing).
@ScottAdamsSays
There's more than a single variable at play.
We don't have a Base Case - No Mask to know what the infections would be without the Masks.
We only have a Project Case - Mask Wearing (spotty as it may be)
The delta between the 2 cases would estimate the Mask impact.

Its still true and engineers need to be able to make 'in the ball park' estimates immediately.
Having the calculator is nice but often there's so much variance in the real world data. . . you're estimate is sufficient. (Perhaps non-optimal. . . )
@AndrewHClark
Recommend to end government pensions first. . . that's 15 years overdue vs the private sector.
Once that's straight we can talk about optimizing the 401k situation.
Based on government efficiency I'd expect discussions to begin 2050-2055.
