My father, Bo Almqvist, gifted me these cufflinks, which he wore on special occasions across his life. I wear them today as I present credentials to the President of Hungary, knowing that while papa passed ten years ago, he guides me still.

80 years ago, as the Red Army laid siege to Budapest, Raoul Wallenberg was arrested, never to be seen again. As the son of a Swede & now a fellow diplomat, I’ve drawn inspiration always from his heroism, which saved so many Jews. Privileged to honour his memory here today.
