@The_MovieOracle
In fairness, she only interacts with Downey and Favreau in that film, so she could easily have thought that was a scene shot for Infinity War.
Since there are people who still insist on defending Grace Randolph's professional integrity, a brief overview of her most egregious incidents: for starters, she's been called out by James Gunn, Cathy Yan, AvaDuVernay, James Wan and Jessica Chastain for making shit up.

@FilmUpdates
Yes, and Ian Ziering agreed to be in Sharknado only so he could have health coverage for the whole family (himself, wife and two daughters).
If you're planning to watch Alita to "teach SJW Disney a lesson", know this: it's about poor people and minorities rising up against the (white) 1%; it's directed by a filmmaker of Mexican descent; it has a star of Peruvian descent (who criticizes Trump); Disney will own it soon.
Joss Whedon: has been accused of exhibiting abusive behavior on a film set.
James Gunn: posted a few “edgy” jokes a decade ago, and was later FALSELY accused of criminal behavior by one of the dudes behind Pizzagate.
Stop comparing them.
Hmmm, who to believe? The studio that would be in legal and fiscal trouble if they lied about their earnings, or the hatemonger who has a track record of posting fake news and sexist, ableist and anti-Semitic content (the latter targeting the head of Marvel Studios)?
To those claiming Dark Phoenix, MIB: International and Shaft are doing poorly because people "spent all their money on Endgame": Infinity War made a truckload of money too, and so did Deadpool 2 and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Maybe the problem this year is the movies...
Some people are rationalizing their support for Bohemian Rhapsody by saying that Bryan Singer “didn’t actually direct it” or “was fired halfway through filming”. No, he was fired two weeks before the end of shooting. That’s why his name is still on the movie.
Once more, for the (wilfully deaf) people in the back:
- The first draft of
#CaptainMarvel
was completed in 2013
- The movie was announced in October 2014
- Brie Larson was cast in 2016
- The directors were hired in April 2017
All of that happened before Wonder Woman came out.
Embargo lifted:
#Joker
is a gripping, gritty portrayal of madness and anarchy. Todd Phillips' best film, with a powerhouse Joaquin Phoenix performance.
#Venezia76
Not exactly what they said: the Mind Stone enhanced and exasperated Loki's desire for revenge, but it was already there (much like the scene where the Avengers argue: the sceptre magnifies their existing feelings). He wasn't "mind-controlled".
“If you disagree with a critic, that’s fine. If you attack a critic over their opinion, you don’t deserve cinema in any form.” (Mark Kermode)
Truer words were never spoken.
#DarkPhoenix
is a decent enough send-off for the X-Men franchise. It shakes up the formula in interesting ways, and the performances are mostly solid. It’s been a fun 20 years with this incarnation, and for the most part I’ll miss those people.
She said Disney was "race bending" the Lady and the Tramp remake because some of the dogs (most notably Lady) were voiced by non-white actors. She victim-blamed Kelly Marie Tran and Samantha Geimer (yes, Roman Polanski's victim).
And - brought to my attention just today - she panned the film Freaky because she thinks it's homophobic and offensive to all gay people. The writer and the director of that movie are gay.
I don’t usually like using this phrase, but it’s warranted here: if you think Transformers invented that visual gag, you really need to watch more movies.
Best-reviewed superhero film of each year since MCU started:
2008: The Dark Knight
2009: Watchmen
2010: Kick-Ass
2011: X-Men: First Class
2012: The Dark Knight Rises
2013: Iron Man 3
2014: Guardians of the Galaxy
2015: Age of Ultron
2016: Civil War
2017: Logan
2018: Spider-Verse
She tried to spread rumors about both Henry Cavill and Pedro Pascal being difficult to work with. She then tried to publicly out Cavill (who, by all accounts, is not gay), and claimed Pascal was fired from The Mandalorian, with Temuera Morrison being the star of season 3.
She said Jacob Tremblay is "not hot enough" to potentially play Percy Jackson in the upcoming TV show (Tremblay is 14). She suggested a fellow critic disliked Batman v Superman due to being unduly influenced by Disney/Marvel (said critic actually gave BvS a positive review).
Bryan Singer: has actually been accused of sexual harassment and assault, including sex with minors.
James Gunn: made a bunch of tasteless jokes, has never been accused of any actual wrongdoing.
Stop comparing them.
She reviewed a movie she appears in (that's a big no-no for professional reviewers). When called out for lying about Birds of Prey, she said it was unfair because she had defended the film (she didn't: her review is a 5/10).
She said Wonder Woman 1984 had been retooled to serve as the universe-wide reboot "Flashpoint" movie. She said Chris Nolan should have sued Marvel because Doctor Strange "ripped off" Inception and Batman Begins (the visuals and backstory were from the comics).
@DavidDMerkle
They have apparently removed it now from their website. But they kept Tom Cruise and Hayley Atwell in Mission: Impossible 7, and they’re not lovers in that movie either.
Since a lot of people will lose their shit this week for the same old reason, a few reminders:
- Film criticism is not a consumer guide
- Art is subjective, so no one is "right" or "wrong" about a film
- The Rotten Tomatoes score is not an indicator of quality
@ambertamblyn
Actually, since Best Picture goes to the producers and not the director, there are 8 women nominated in that category (with 6 out of 9 nominated films having female producers).
I was pretty viciously attacked recently for saying this movie is going to bomb. Lots of people misconstrued my criticism of this film's marketing as "bashing on women." But I stand by my analysis. I don't think Birds of Prey is going to do well at the theaters.
#OnceUponATimeInHollywood
is an odd one for Tarantino, but in a very good way. A pure love letter to cinema and the 1960s, with a career-best DiCaprio performance.
#Cannes2019
If the rest of the movie is as good as the first 25 minutes (“the boring part”, according to the director),
#Migration
could easily be Illumination’s best film to date. Spectacularly fun!
#AnnecyFestival

He did come back for the third movie, and sure enough, they went out of their way to let people know it was him and not Dan Castellaneta.
People are iffy about Dark Phoenix because of the trailers. Captain Marvel has been attacked by sexist trolls who are comparing Brie Larson to Hitler. Not even remotely the same thing.
Let’s get a few things straight: Brie Larson doesn’t hate men in general, nor white men in particular; there’s no anti-male propaganda in
#CaptainMarvel
; the review embargo being lifted shortly before release is due entirely to stuff that happens in the movie.
Friendly reminder that you posted a video where your face was on the body of a Nazi shooting a Jewish studio head. You don't get to call others "toxic".
The Killer digi-double visual effects sequence & breakdown. This is our first of many breakdown reels we're going to post on X for our VFX work on The Killer.
Everyone and their grandmother kept saying Guardians was going to be Marvel’s first flop. The movie’s success was Feige’s leverage to get Black Panther and Captain Marvel approved, as it showed people would watch an MCU movie without Avengers in it. Don’t try to rewrite history.
@whenbatmenfly
I’ll add: even though the WGA can be shady when it comes to its crediting system, they are very strict when the director asks for a shared writing credit. So if the director is credited, that means the guild really thought they contributed substantially to the script.
A) You don't understand how film criticism works. B) You don't understand how Rotten Tomatoes works. C) The audience score is the one that people can actually rig. In fact, they have done so, more than once.
Ivory tower elites vs regular people
Its not just about politics, it's also about people lying to keep their jobs, toeing the line to fit in with their peers, or pretending art is better than it is.
For what it's worth though, I did like Ad Astra. Wouldn't give it an 82% though
You know what’s an actual insult? Your racist assumption that technological advancement and preservation of the ancestral culture are mutually exclusive.
Some people are (predictably) using this to trot out the same old "Feige waited 20 movies to move past white male leads" nonsense. Do us all a favor: google "Ike Perlmutter", and don't ever bring it up again. Thanks.
@danny_spidey
A) She's not talking about Captain Marvel. B) She never said she didn't want white men to see the film, she simply said she was interested in other critical perspectives.
@RedLReviews
Also not a thing prior to the movies: everyone calling him “Erik”. They usually called him “Magnus” (the alias he used when he met his wife).
@gwenstacying
@RedLReviews
Alex Borstein (Lois) once pointed out that he could technically do most of the guest voices (Adam West, Kermit the Frog, etc), but he *wants* to work with the original actors.
The only Star Wars movie made under Kathleen Kennedy’s stewardship that lost money at the box office was Solo.
You know, the one with a straight white male as the lead.
@mavericksmovies
@AdequateEmily
Apparently, for Jersey Girl (or possibly Clerks II), Harvey Weinstein - of all people - put his foot down and said “We’re getting you a proper DP for this one” 🤣
@IHNTblah
@jeremylovesyall
This. Whenever people say Sean Gunn, Nathan Fillion and Michael Rooker have no careers outside of James Gunn’s movies, I die a little inside.
I quite enjoyed the new
#ChildsPlay
, mainly because it’s mostly its own thing and not a straightforward retelling of the original. And Mark Hamill is a terrific Chucky.
Even if Rian Johnson's heavily shilled Knives Out really was The Godfather of Whodunit movies, The Last Jedi would still be the Highlander 2 of Star Wars movies.
Some people are now comparing James Gunn to Bryan Singer. Singer has been accused of sexual misconduct/assault, and was fired from Bohemian Rhapsody for unprofessional behavior. Gunn was fired because he used to post bad jokes. Not even remotely comparable.
Friendly reminder that:
A) You're a Turkish dude posing as an American woman.
B) You're a Marvel fan posing as a racist, sexist, ableist Marvel hater just for clicks.
Who's the mindless one?

Yes, he and Hemsworth were both involved in crafting Thor’s arc in both movies. All the solo film directors were consulted on how their characters should be used.
It may tread very familiar ground, but

does so in a very charming, entertaining and heartwarming manner. Strikes a good balance of spectacle and character work.

It cost 5 million dollars, and grossed 11 million worldwide in theaters alone. Between non-theatrical revenue and foreign sales (different distributors handled it in different countries), it turned a nice profit.
WB is not struggling (only one of its six major releases in 2019 has lost money so far). Every single Universal release this year thus far has done well. Sony and Paramount are still relevant. Which you'd know if you paid attention instead of having a hate boner for Disney.
To the people complaining about certain character arcs in Infinity War and Endgame: where applicable, the solo film directors were consulted every step of the way and gave their seal of approval. And in at least one specific case, the actor was also part of the creative process.
DC "fans", 2013: "Suck it, Marvel! Our universe is actually a proper one, since they have access to all the characters and can do whatever they want with them!"
DC "fans", 2020: "Ew, how dare they put a DCEU actor in a CW crossover! Keep them separate!"
Can we please stop using "Hey, at least the X-Men are part of the MCU now" as a criticism of what's going on with the Disney-Fox situation? Fox was going to sell regardless, in which case the rights of the Marvel characters would revert to Disney anyway.
