Private Robert Johns is the youngest solider to be named on the Normandy Memorial aged just 16. He lied about his age and joined up aged 14. He passed jump school in Jan 44 to become a paratrooper. Private Robert E Johns was shot dead by a sniper on 23 July 1944.

I was very lucky to share a special moment with this soldiers family at his graveside when pipes were played for him. He died 4 days before his 20th Birthday in a glider shot from the skies. His sister in law aged 94 told me his story a moment I will never forget.

My eldest daughter has delivered the most gorgeous baby girl.
Isla Rose arrived at 15:28 weighing 7lb 7oz. Mum and baby are well.

A bit of a day. After 3 years I’ve handed my work computer and security pass in and walked out the door for the last time. It’s been a lesson in ups and downs, perseverance and survival. Next challenge accepted. Heading to pastures new. All feels odd and exciting.

Fat to fit update: Started on 18 Jan from rock bottom. In 8 weeks of healthy eating habits, gym 5 days a week including HiiT classes. fell off got back on again had chocolate/alcohol and struggled but I have lost 21 lbs and come down 2 waste sizes. It works.

Actor Donald Pleasance was born in Worksop in 1919. Joined the RAF as a radio operator, served with 166 Sqd Kirmington. Flying 60 raids. 31/8/44 aboard Lancaster NE112 was shot down in a raid on a V1 site at Agenville. He was captured and spent time as a POW in Stalg Luft I.

Whilst the evacuation of Dunkirk is rightly lauded, very little is said about the rear guard action and evacuations from Brest (40,000) Cherbourg (30,000) and Le Harve (11,000). To get that number of troops off in 2/3 days is astonishing.

1 year ago I decided I had to have a massive lifestyle change. I was fat (5’8 and 19st) no exercise, lived very lazy lifestyle. I ate badly and drank too much. My blood pressure and cholesterol was high. 1/7.

Fat to fit update: In 18 weeks i’ve lost 2 1/2 stone (35lbs) & down 3 waist sizes. Lifestyle change, healthy eating/portion control, cut down not out, gym, damn hard work. Fallen off and got on again. It’s working. Long way to go.

I’m remembering my Mum who passed away 15 years ago this week, aged 62. She made me the man I am, gave me a set of principles and made sure I grew up loved and understood the way of the world. I miss Mum so much everyday. She was my rock.
