Hello, @LEGO_Group, did you know that Maria Skłodowska-Curie was Polish🇵🇱and that she always used both names? She was the first woman to win a @NobelPrize, first person to win it twice and the only person to receive it in two different fields of science. Maria was also the first woman to become a professor at the University of Paris. Maria Skłodowska moved to France at 24 to study at the Sorbonne. She devoured one subject after another, hardly eating and living in an unheated attic. Despite living in France and marrying French physicist Pierre Curie, Maria never lost her sense of Polish identity. She taught her daughters Polish and took them on visits to Poland. She named the first element she discovered, polonium (1898), after her homeland.

14 February will be the National Day of Remembrance for the Home Army (AK) Soldiers! 🇵🇱 It was the largest underground resistance movement in German-occupied Europe during WWII, with 600,000 fighters standing against oppression. We honour their struggle!

The Yalta Agreement remains a symbol of betrayal for Poles, marking the moment the Western Allies sealed their nation’s fate. Left in the Soviet sphere of influence, Poland endured decades of terror and oppression. Over 200,000 Polish soldiers who had fought under British command were unable to return home - some because their homeland’s borders had shifted, others due to Communist repression. Many who did return faced imprisonment or execution. Despite immense sacrifices, including 6 million civilian deaths, the Western Allies disregarded Poland’s future. Soviet rule lasted until 1989, leaving deep scars on the nation.
