You might think that your growth plates closed due to excess estrogen, but estrogen does not directly cause growth plate closure. Instead, it influences the process by increasing the natural aging of the growth plates, leading to a quicker depletion of chondrocytes (which contain collagen, proteoglycans, glycoproteins, and lipids). This depletion decreases the bone's ability to proliferate. The actual closure of the growth plate occurs when chondrocytes can no longer divide and replicate to form new bone.
