A pair of Swans set up their nest a few weeks ago just across the canal (we back onto the towpath). Today we finally see that the cygnets have hatched and 5 little bundles of grey fluff are peering out from underneath a proud parent. Setting sun not helpful, but you get the idea.

This is brilliant news for my town of Long Eaton. The HS2 line is a massive issue here as it would slice through the town and cut it in half, with a 60ft high viaduct across the town. Would have been chaos and total disruption, but nobody thought of us did they? Good riddance.
The eastern leg of HS2 has been scrapped and a high-speed east-west line linking Manchester to Leeds will not be built, the government has confirmed.

No idea how I did it but today I managed to change the language setting on our washing machine to Norwegian.
